Casual Friday, Hour 2

gonzo_balloon.jpg

Gonzo Watch, Day 12. Last week, Joe Conason predicted Gonzo would be gone-zo at 4 p.m. Today on the air, he backed off a bit: It may not happen today. Maybe because this happened today. Remember The Maine?

I listened to a bit of Hannity last night and he had a caller compare Al Gore to Osama bin Laden. Hannity let it go, and agreed with the caller about some other points (not the comparison).

But where's the outrage? When some whackjob posts something bad on moveon, huffingtonpost, or any other liberal site, all the trolls go balistic and hold the site owner responsible. And then it gets covered by the liberal media.

Double-standard? Yup.

Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher (R) yesterday signed a state minimum wage increase. “The move makes Kentucky the 31st state to raise its minimum wage above the federal one.”

What is Edwards thinking? How much time does Liz have?

You have to look out for other people in this life If I were in his shoes, I would abandon the campaign and spend time with the woman I love.

Maybe after the election he can spend some quality time at graveside. What's the matter with this guy?

On the last thread I posted some info about a Ray McGovern lecture I attended. Though you will have to take my word on what was said, he does allude to it "somewhat" in an article. The article appeared May 19, 2006, on Tom Paine site.

Here is an excerpt:

The executive branch is “walking all over the Congress at the moment,” complained Sen. Arlen Specter, R.-Pa., last week to the Senate Judiciary Committee which he chairs. Unlike Roberts and Hoekstra, Specter seems genuinely troubled at the president’s disdain for the separation of powers and particularly his end-run around the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, which prohibits eavesdropping on American citizens without a court warrant.

But when Specter meets a stonewall, he caves. He may ask telephone company CEOs why they surrendered records to the government, but—illegal eavesdropping or no—Specter will likely remain a spectator, as Pat Roberts greases the skids for Big Brother Gen. Michael Hayden, architect and implementer of eavesdropping on Americans in violation of FISA, to become the next director of the CIA. Hayden’s disingenuousness in his testimony before the intelligence committees has been clear, but the committee chairmen are as much to blame for winking at it.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department has told Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D.-N.Y., that it is stopping its months-long investigation into who approved the NSA’s eavesdropping-on-American-citizens initiative (now euphemistically dubbed “the terrorist surveillance program”). Justice explained to Hinchey that the NSA would not grant Justice department investigators the appropriate security clearances to investigate the NSA program. Kafka would smirk.

"(August 21, 400 A.D.) THE ALPS-I was at a dinner party last night with some friends and was struck by their pessimism. Yes, Alaric and the Visigoths have overrun the entire penninsula, yes, they've sacked Rome and yes the entire city is on fire, and yes they're slaughtering and raping the remaining inhabitants.
Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I think this might be the best thing to ever happen to Rome."

There is a one shot component to the White House deal given to the Senate Judiciary Committee. We give you one sitting, we come up with a list of the questions, and it is one time and one time only deal to take "bogus testimony".

Anonymous said...

Yeah, George Bush is real backed against a corner so theyre trying to intimidate everyone into going along with whatever conditions they set, and if they get their conditions met then it serves as nothing but a get out of jail free card. I mean the fact they use that same language of trying to dupe the dealer,"We'll let you do this, but then you cant ever talk about this agin.

This isnt an insurence payoff, an out of court settlement! Is Bush insane?! I know he is, but na, like he has a choice. he doesnt have a choice does he? ...Man, he doesnt have any choice how they investigate him. That be stupid.

Bush"Im gonna dictate how they bust me. Im Mr World King. Nya nya nya nya nya,".

Lahey and them should all be like,"Say what mofo? Riiiiiight. Maybe last year,"

Oh I almost forgot, we have to start comparing Bush's failure to how many times it's making General Patton roll over in his grave.

Anonymous said...

I mean he was Patton right, I loved the movie, maybe it over glorified. But what would, Patton think of ol Mr Bush and his exploits.

Cause Patton would have like cleared and disarmed the whole country. Found who the enemy was...Hed be speaking the locals language by now... all of them. And the war would have ended ... I dont know when but eventually, it would have ended.

"Cantr fight terror. Terror is a tactic. Have to find those that deploy dear as a weapon, and erradicate them. With as lith collateral damage to the civilian population as possible. We fight wars on battlefields. The US army is not a body gaurd agency, to be used to pad the safe theft of treasure from for nations for Big wig corporations who dont have a human stake in the conflict, the cause real people to die in just because its the next big capitalist endever of the so called stolen American dream. Were soldiers and the battle field is not the heart of a city where people are trying to live . If it is, then lets move the civilian populous out and bring in tanks. Engage and over come the enemy. But wheres the enemy army to speak of. We dont want to bunk and wait for them to come to us. Thats a garrison. Whats the terrotory Mr President. Are we holding it for our selves? If not give it back or declare war cause terror is not a nation and wait and die is not a stratagy for victory. Bush said bring them on then he went to them. We dont want them in our streets, but for the love of God man, make them come to you out in the mountains. Thats theyre turf. We arent even fighting on our or the enemies battle field. The city is the peoples. And the armies are using some other peoples land to fight on so they dont have to mess up their homelands. Well thats very convenient Mr Bush and Mr Shiek Mohammed, unless your one of the peoples. So If its war then make it war where war should be made with who you declare it against in the first place and no one and no where else. And lets go kick so terrorist ass. Somewhere away from the people. And the people will take care of themselves as long as the US army is fighting all the wars that should be above and beoyond the peoples worry.".

Thats what Patton would say, I thnk.
