Ward Churchill closed the day with a passionate and articulate speech calling for unity between people struggling for justice. It was a strong reminder that although we may have our differences of opinion and sometimes not even get along personally, we need to work together. The forces of the status quo-–private security corporations such as Black Water, the army, police and federal agents, to name a few–are definitely united against us. Only together can we progress towards liberation and freedom from oppression.

What's REALLY funny is watching Hillary when asked if homosexuality is immoral....pass the buck and then come back a few hours later (after reading her polls) and say "oh, I mean, no it's not"

And the fact that Sam Seder (and the rest of the AAR "progressives") will (in less than 11 months, when she wins Super Tuesday) be kissing Hillary's ass and "forgetting" that or the fact that she told the NY Times on Wed. that she'd support a continueing occupation of Iraq!

On the wires today:

Sen. Leahy pushes White House subpoenas By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman said Sunday he intends to subpoena White House officials involved in ousting federal prosecutors and is dismissing anything short of their testimony in public.

The Bush White House was expected to announce early this week whether it will let political strategist Karl Rove, former White House counsel Harriet Miers and other officials testify or will seek to assert executive privilege in preventing their appearance.

The chairman, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., last week delayed a vote on the subpoenas until Thursday as the president's counsel, Fred Fielding, sought to negotiate terms. But on Sunday, Leahy said he had not met Fielding nor was he particularly open to any compromises, such as a private briefing by the administration officials.

"I want testimony under oath. I am sick and tired of getting half-truths on this," Leahy said. "I do not believe in this, we'll have a private briefing for you where we'll tell you everything, and they don't."

Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter (news, bio, voting record), the top Republican on the committee, said he had a long talk with Fielding on Friday and was reserving judgment. Specter said he would like to see Rove and Miers' open testimony because there were numerous precedents for it.

Hillary is the Republican's choice for the Democraic nominee. They're discovering they don't have a say.

It's been this way for a couple of years now, with all the Republican warnings not to underestimate Hillary Clinton and they're afraid they can't beat her.

You think people will fall for that? Just because out President is retarded, doesn't mean the entire USA is.

They took me to the Pheasant Run Resort for brunch:

Magnificent displays of culinary delights are the center of attention in a beautiful garden setting. Accompanied by a soothing jazz ensemble, you'll feast your eyes, then fill your plate, with your choice from over 100 brunch specialties, including made-to-order omelets, pasta and waffle stations, salads, spreads, carved meats, cold cuts, smoked salmon, fresh fruits and the list of fabulous fare goes on. Of course, you'll want to save room for dessert. With such an array of sinful sensations, you'll be tempted to sample one (or more) of each! The "E" Band performs Jazz and Swing tunes from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Sunday. Located in our Garden Atrium.

Like Mother, like son. The Bush family has disdain for U.S. soldiers.
by Joe Sudbay (DC) · 3/18/2007 11:29:00 AM ET

March 18, 2003, courtesy of Frank Rich:
Barbara Bush tells Diane Sawyer on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that she will not watch televised coverage of the war: “Why should we hear about body bags and deaths, and how many, what day it’s going to happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it’s, it’s not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”
She is despicable. How many truly beautiful minds have been destroyed by that same cavalier attitude, which is obviously shared by Mrs. Bush's son? These people do not support the troops. They view young men and women as expendable.

hi fishgrease,

correct me if I am wrong the way I read your comments. You are not really responding to my qs to conbo re the when and why HC is a Republican. I don't really know the context of your statements so this will get confusing for both of us.

Basically, the Democrats like combo are just repeating Republican talking points? Sort of like in 2000 and 2004? Is that what you mean?

"Hillary is the Republican's choice for the Democraic nominee. They're discovering they don't have a say."

You mean the Democratic voters don't have a say? Why not? Who exactly forces them to support HC in the polls as of this moment?

So right now HC is the frontrunner (not Dem nominee). But the present situation is not that surprising to me considering who she is - there is still a whole year to go until the Primaries. Its an eternity. The Dem nominee may still pop up. Think Clinton's situation in Fall 91.

"It's been this way for a couple of years now, with all the Republican warnings not to underestimate Hillary Clinton and they're afraid they can't beat her."

You mean the Republicans believe they can't beat her? But its all just GOP bogus argument designed to get her nominated so they can beat her in 2008?

"You think people will fall for that? Just because out President is retarded, doesn't mean the entire USA is".

Meaning what exactly, fishgrease? I can read that in several ways but I let you clarify.

Poll: Confidence in Iraq war down sharply
POSTED: 2:12 p.m. EDT, March 18, 2007

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Americans are starkly less confident and proud of their country's involvement in Iraq, according to poll results released Sunday.

However, the poll -- results of which were released on the eve of the Iraq war's 4-year anniversary -- also indicated that Americans are no more worried about the conflict than they were when it began in March 2003.

The CNN poll of 1,027 adults was conducted March 9-11 by Opinion Research Corp. The sampling error for the poll is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

According to the results, 35 percent of Americans are confident about the war, the poll said. When the war began, 83 percent of Americans expressed confidence in the campaign.

Similarly, 30 percent of those polled this month said they were proud of the war, as opposed to 65 percent who expressed that sentiment in 2003.

The poll also showed that 33 percent of Americans are afraid of the war and 55 percent are worried by it. Those percentages are roughly the same as they were four years ago.

Sunday's results came on the heels of a Saturday release indicating that years of war had whittled away at Americans' support for the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

When the Iraq war began, 68 percent of Americans said they felt the situation in the country was worth fighting over. Now, 61 percent of those surveyed say it was not worth invading Iraq, according to the poll.

CNN has something interesting. There is someone, I didn't catch who, that is saying that this country is going bankrupt. I'm going to not watch MTP and I will watch CNN because I want to hear what this person has to say about our economy.

But I think your post was excellent!!

Any time you want to post on my blog, let me know and I will send an invite.

Hey all. Weird solutions to future space program to come. Nothing like riding on massive ball of destruction Slim Pickens style right? Im thinking just rap an asteroid in metal and then hollow out what you need and put rocket boosters on it, and fire a vessel like that between planets.Bush's waste of metal resources Rods of Gods gave me the idea. How ever big you wanted, hard materia. Harvest a mile wide iron meteorite or smaller, or bigger, and not have to drag all that armor to space. Just fit it to be controled and a little free flying exploratory planetoid. Youd have all the power, fuel, sensors that youd normally have. But it be like a free Armored Couger Chassy that just needed a new engine and some electrical work. Just need to pimp it out a bit. Be all driving around an Aston Martin Asteroid. Bushes would have meterorite to meteorite anti meteorite missles just so he doesnt have to feel inadequate. Paint jobs, spinning rims. Fire off to one planet, spin your self around, park 500 miles abouve whatever planet your working on. Turn on the tunes, get baked. Build a catapult aimed back near Earth(aimed) a little high just in case, float back in and park above the moon somewhere. Come back down and do your report to the good people of Earth thing. Fuck your wife, watch a game, go to a bar b q, go back to work next year. Used meteor dealerships, everyone could have one. Watch, wed clean up the asteroid belt and have a clearer view of Jupiter, although some of our own shield would be gone due to us harvesting it. But hey, eventually Id like think us little humans could do something cool.

Oooh! An article from George F. Will. He thinks the conservatives are bitching too much about there candidates:

// Many at CPAC seemed depressed by the fact, as they see it, that the top three Republican candidates -- John McCain, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani-- are flawed.//

hahaha. George F. Will goes on to rally the conservatives by saying that Holy Reagan had his flaws too:

//Suppose someone seeking the presidential nomination had, as a governor, signed the largest tax increase in his state's history and the nation's most permissive abortion law. And by signing a law institutionalizing no-fault divorce, he had unwittingly but substantially advanced an idea central to the campaign for same-sex marriages -- the minimalist understanding of marriage as merely a contract between consenting adults to be entered into or dissolved as it suits their happiness.

Question: Is it not likely that such a presidential aspirant would be derided by some of today's fastidious conservatives? A sobering thought, that, because the attributes just described were those of Ronald Reagan.//

Police are searching for whoever shot one man dead and left another injured Saturday night in Manhattan.

It happened shortly after 8 p.m. near Broadway and 161st Street in Washington Heights.

Police say 23-year-old Joseph Santos was shot in the back. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A second man was shot in the stomach, but he's expected to survive.

The thing I remember most significantly about Guiliani's time in office was one day I woke up and noticed alot of the homeless people were gone.

No one really talked about it much. Everyone kind of acknowledged that things seemed a bit different, and said they were glad the squeegee guys weren't there to harass you while you're stopped at a light, but that was about it. I guess some people would say "well, he sure cleaned up the town", but it gave me a real creepy feeling.

I was saying that I think the ongoing debate over the events on 9/11 are a result of a feeling of powerlessness on the part of the American people. Since we haven't been able to kick the bims out, we instead regress into pointless debate.

But do I personally feel powerless?

Kissinger says power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

By power, I think he means elite privilege. The power to act above the law. The ability to cause change to occur in conformity with will.

The art and science of causing change to occur in conformity with will.

Otto von Bismarck said 'politics is not a science, it is an art.'

Power is harmony in your personal relationships. Not a control situation. Communication only occurs between equals.

Of course, any guy who's ever had a successful relationship knows that this is a bunch of bs. hee.

One Republican strategist close to the White House…said: ‘No president is going to let their senior staff assistant to the president go testify. Forget that. They might agree to do an informal interview, but they’ll never testify.’ … Democrats, citing a report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service, say presidential advisers, including 47 from the Clinton administration alone, have frequently testified before Congressional committees, both while serving the president and after they had left the White House.”

i used to watch stephanopolus till he was seduced by the dark side. i still watch that 3 way talk show on cspan on ocassion, the one where progressives call one number, neocons call another number, and neocons claiming to be independent call a third number.

i find the people they choose for the shows to be disappointing. i don't consider donna brazil (-2 sp) to be representative of the progressive movement.

its interesting the way the right wing spin machine works. the editorial page of this mornings paper has one letter about shutting down abortion clinics (a constant in your face battle in cincinnati where they still haven't figured it out). more telling was the two letters supporting gonzales with the same message - clinton did it and he did it to 93 at once. somehow they are making that story stick no matter how much it gets debunked.

so, back to my earlier statement. i'm encouraged that leahy is going to kick ass and take names and not allow these criminals to hide behind a closed door session of congress.
