Announcing

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that this week will be the last week of the Sam Seder Show on Air America. As you know, Air America recently came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the new management wants to go in a different direction with the 9-Noon (est) time slot. However, as much as I would like to spend more time with Alberto Gonzales’ family, he will be doing so shortly, freeing me up to do a Sunday afternoon show on Air America Radio. The show is tentatively known as Seder on Sundays and I am excited to get it started.

I am very proud of the three years I have broadcast on Air America Radio. I am particularly proud of the Sam Seder Show. We started the show as AAR was entering bankruptcy, when things around here were pretty hectic and insecure. The Sam Seder juggernaut, as no one but me called us, was able to maintain all of our affiliates that stayed with the progressive format through our bankruptcy. While it’s a bit early to judge, (our first full “book” is out in a couple of weeks) our ratings were looking pretty good and we dramatically increased AAR’s streaming numbers during this time slot. Most importantly, though, was the support and response we received from you, our audience. You'll never know just how helpful and motivating your comments, calls, emails and letters have been to me and my family and I greatly appreciate it.

I hope all of you will join me when I begin the Sunday show in the next month and a half or so. Of course, I’ll be maintaining this blog and continuing to promise to fix it. ( I mean it this time, I am serious!) I actually have some rather large plans for this site and its offerings but am not prepared to discuss them at the moment.

Anyway, over the next week I’ll be posting more about my plans, this site, Seder on Sundays and reflecting upon the last three years.

My email address is posted in the left hand column of this blog— drop me an email if you want to receive updates in the future. And tune in this week! I really don’t know how I am going to break this to Dewey.

I was really upset when I heard - every show on this station that I have supported has effectively been cancelled. 1st it was Morning Sedition, 2nd Mark Riley's program is cut from 2 hours to one and not broadcasted in NY, then Majority Report and now when I am finally able to listen to this damn show at work - The Sam Seder show is also cancelled. I know this is a business and I guess Lionel will bring in new listeners but this station is about to lose one. Thanks for the GREAT WORK!!! – I wish you the best and will continue to support you and Laura Flanders.

Sam Seder is one of the best, we had him here in Los Angeles for a time and he was great, I miss him here and wish our station would have had him on the air with its new lineup. So just to say you on the east coast are lucky to have Sam and hope he gets more airtime in the future.

Interesting how the "popular Lionel" replacement announcement has suddenly disappeared from AAR Main page after more than 2 pages of negative comments appeared.

Looks like AAR is like the Bush Administration.....just ignore things you don't want to hear (or disappear them).

This totally blows! 6 weeks ago I finally took the plunge and signed up for Air America premium, specifically for Sam's show, although I dig Hartmann & the Turks as well. This "Lionel" had better be good-I wonder if AAR offers rebates?

Sam!!!!

The Sammy Cam is not working due to demand. Are u that popular? Seems stupid to take someone like that off the air, huh?

SAM-

YOU HAVE BEEN A WONDERFUL VOICE FOR MANY AMERICANS INCLUDING MYSELF.

AIR AMERICA IS MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE. MANY OF US BUY XM FOR AIR AMERICA AND THE PEOPLE WHO MADE AIR AMERICA WHAT IT IS.

APPARENTLY THE NEW PEOPLE ARE NOT INTERESTED ITS LOYAL LISTENERS.

ANYWAY HOPE TO SEE OR HEAR YOU SOON WITH ANOTHER STATION.

BEST WISHES

THE RODRIGUEZ FAMILY

Sam, all I can say is I'm pissed. Yeah, sure I'm glad you're still going to be on the air, but one day a week does not do it for me. You are my favorite commentator to listen to on the radio, I'm just pissed! What am I supposed to listen to when I drive home from work? God, I'm pissed! You were the best they had, the funniest, and nobody handled the wingnuts better. Maybe you should look elsewhere, you need a show where you can be on five days a week.

Thanks Sam for everything. I'm going to miss you in the mornings. But now I have a reason to listen to the radio on Sunday.

Best wishes.

I will deeply miss listening to your informative and entertaining show. You are an intelligent and witty radio personality who gives his audience the truth when too many just spew the Repugs' talking points. I can only hope that another progressive radio station will pick you up in the future. You deserve more than just one show a week on Sunday! Keep up the good work Sam!

I a so angry that your voice has been limited to one day, but we must make the best of this time. There aren't any live shows on Sunday afternoon. So it will be great if you dominate this time slot, and of course Laura Flanders can follow you etc.
In the meantime I will be going thru withdrawal without you during the day!!!

I will miss your morning show! You are a brilliant talk radio host and you had excellent guests. And, btw, I, for one, LOVE your cute little voice!

If Air America is determined to have Lionel, I wonder if we can start a similar, sort of reverse Imus movement and bombard Air America with complaints, demanding that they REPLACE ED SCHULTZ WITH YOU!! Why in God's name are they keeping him and dropping you is beyond me.

Power to The People, right, Air America? Hope you're paying attention to what we really do and don't want.

I WILL be listening on Sunday cuz I don't wanna live without ya!

it's sunday afternoon, and you're not on, maybe you start next week? tomorrow morning nothing to listen to. marc green, have you ever listened to this station? you've made a terrible mistake. if I wanted NPR, I would not be listening to Air America. Sam you will be missed terribly.

I'll miss listening to your weekday radio show. It was great.

I won't be listening to Lionel because he sucks (and is awful) and so does AAR for replacing you with him.

I miss Garafalo and now I am going to be missing Sam. Damn damn damn damn damn!. .. What the hell is wrong with AAR? What? Do they think that going centrist is going to get a bigger audience? Maybe but if I am not mistaken that was not what the enterprise was founded on. I think the benefit is a wash.

Sam - I would just like to say that it was an honor to listen to you every morning. I am in Northern NJ area. and while I am happy with Hartman I can say with all honesty that it will be difficult to listen to Air America in the mornings. Rachel replaced by Greenfield/Williams and now you too.

I am totally disappointed in management.

Thank you for everything - Ian

As a Mexican living across San Diego, California in Tijuana since 1952 and been exposed to reactionary radio and TV programs. The Air America experimewnt was a relif, but your show was always on top of the issues.

Look forward to your Sunday show.

Even though we didn't get the live version of your show (our station replays it at night)we will miss you here in the heartland of conservative anal-retentiveness (Eastern WA and northern ID). Good luck and look forward to your Sunday escapades.

I am so very sorry that the Sam Seder Show is no more and want to register mine and my husband's great disappointment. We've been faithful listeners to Air America from the beginning and don't understand what kind of "new direction" the management could possibly be taking. Why fix something that wasn't broken? Sam Seder is the best! He's a very dynamic, knowledgeable, and best of all, interesting show host and will be greatly missed. We hope the new management is listening!

I absolutely LOVE your show - you remind me of Senor Mike Malloy - I'll absolutely be tunning in on Sundays for you and Ring of Fire.

Got get em!

Sam,
I can't, for the life of me, imagine how the folks at Air America think they can improve on your show. It will be good to have 'new' programming on Sundays, but I did look forward to hearing your show every morning. I don't get it and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I do look forward to hearing you whenever you are on. Best to you always.

Sam,

I was a loyal listener every morning from day one after Jerry Springer left the time slot on XM. I've enjoyed the show each day and have to say the new folks are losing me to other stations.

All the best.
