Announcing

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that this week will be the last week of the Sam Seder Show on Air America. As you know, Air America recently came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the new management wants to go in a different direction with the 9-Noon (est) time slot. However, as much as I would like to spend more time with Alberto Gonzales’ family, he will be doing so shortly, freeing me up to do a Sunday afternoon show on Air America Radio. The show is tentatively known as Seder on Sundays and I am excited to get it started.

I am very proud of the three years I have broadcast on Air America Radio. I am particularly proud of the Sam Seder Show. We started the show as AAR was entering bankruptcy, when things around here were pretty hectic and insecure. The Sam Seder juggernaut, as no one but me called us, was able to maintain all of our affiliates that stayed with the progressive format through our bankruptcy. While it’s a bit early to judge, (our first full “book” is out in a couple of weeks) our ratings were looking pretty good and we dramatically increased AAR’s streaming numbers during this time slot. Most importantly, though, was the support and response we received from you, our audience. You'll never know just how helpful and motivating your comments, calls, emails and letters have been to me and my family and I greatly appreciate it.

I hope all of you will join me when I begin the Sunday show in the next month and a half or so. Of course, I’ll be maintaining this blog and continuing to promise to fix it. ( I mean it this time, I am serious!) I actually have some rather large plans for this site and its offerings but am not prepared to discuss them at the moment.

Anyway, over the next week I’ll be posting more about my plans, this site, Seder on Sundays and reflecting upon the last three years.

My email address is posted in the left hand column of this blog— drop me an email if you want to receive updates in the future. And tune in this week! I really don’t know how I am going to break this to Dewey.

Sammy,
NO! Say it is not true! Mornings
with you are the Best! The fastest 3hours of my working day! AAR has made a big mistake! I have 2 XM radios because of you! I'm heart-broken. I'm a 54 year old grandmother of 2 who now contacts my senators & congressman because of you! This is a sad day for progressive radio. Thanks for
everything Sam. I will miss you!

The only way to show management how you feel is to not listen or stream. When the Armitron (sp) ratings come out and listenership has dropped, they may get the message!

That's it--we have officially gone through the looking glass. Instead of nurturing and PROMOTING their talent, AAR management once again chooses to canabalize their team, alienating any audience they've managed to grow during the past few months. Enough already. I am no longer a supporter of AAR and will let my premium membership lapse. As a wise woman once said, "They can kiss my fat, black ass!"

Sam, yours is the ONE SHOW i never never miss. Only now, I guess i will. Hey, call NovaM in Phoenix! They could REALLY use a good show from 9-12 eastern!

Easter Parade from DiFi's to Camp Pelosi, by Granny Ruth R

Just part of a very busy Easter Sunday that started in the morning on the Golden Gate Bridge, Bill Carpenter captured CodePink and Raging Grannies on camera as they went a'knockin' on Diane Feinstein's door. The trek from Feinstein's home to Camp Pelosi was arduous, but the Power of Peace prevailed and a gigantic Gandhi made it with a lot of help from Persons in Pink. Raging Grannies took the easy way out and travelled via hybrid Grannymobiles....

One of the Songs we Sang: By Raging Grannies Action League members Gail Sredanovic and Ruth Robertson.
Raging Granny Easter Bonnet Parade (tune: The Easter Parade)

In San Francisco City,
It's an awful pity
Our troops can't be at home for the Easter Parade
We don our Easter Bonnets,
As we sing out our comments
We think of where they are and why they're not with us today

**With the revenues...tax revenues...We are funding an inhumane war, without an end**

Diane [Nancy] think upon it, as you put on your bonnet

What will be the death toll in Iraq today?

We EXPECT the Congress, to vote to end this madness

Grannies want to see our troops come home right away!

Justin has been missing a lot of closet door cues.

I hope Bob's fried fish worked as well as mine. I will be moving to the tonid heathy version next.

I sent an e-mail to the new VP of programming David Bernstein and owner Mark Green at dbernstein@airamerica.com and mgreen@airamerica.com although I suspect that they are falling on deaf in-boxes. You might want to include COO Scott Elberg at selberg@airamerica.com for some quality ignoring as well. I am just guessing these are the addys but I have not received bouncebacks, (yet).

We have gone through this crap with numerous AAR programs, in my case and for many Marc Maron twice. Malloy was big as well. I suspect that throwing Sam the Sunday bone will keep him quiet long enough for the thing to blow over. They don't get it, some folks never forget.

Devastating news. Sam is by far and away the best on Air America, and with him gone, there will be precious little in the current line up worth listening to.

Of course I'll listen to the Sunday show, but Sam's absence during the week can't be filled. There is nobody like him. A profoundly stupid move by management.

I just hope the new programming will continue with the integrity and talent that you have demonstrated. I will miss you. Iran has entered an "industrial stage" in its production of nuclear fuel, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said.

He was speaking at a ceremony at the Natanz uranium enrichment plant to mark Iran's nuclear technology day.

Iran maintains its nuclear programme is for civilian purposes, but the West fears it wants to build atomic bombs.

Correspondents say the announcement that Iran has achieved industrial-scale enrichment is likely to further strain tensions with the West

Journalists and diplomats have been invited to the special events taking place at the site, but European Union diplomats are boycotting them in protest at Iran's refusal to comply with UN demands to end its uranium enrichment programme.

The most sensitive areas at Natanz, deep underground, are thought to be halls for up to 50,000 centrifuges - the machines that enrich uranium gas

I have been listening to Air America from its inception. It has kept me going for the last 3 years. I was upset when Lizz left, when they got rid of Mark, and when the Majority Report was changed to the Sam Sedar Show. I still listen to Tom, Rachel, and ofcourse Sam. Well, I guess I will spending less time listening to Air America, but I kind of had the feeling it would be ending soon. I just don't get why they are getting rid of you. I will be listening on Sundays, I hope it is longer than an hour.

Sam best of luck!

Good morning,

I am sorry to hear the news about your weekly show. I enjoyed the Majority Report and your weekly show was extremely entertaining. Your attacks on those right wing idiots and the chimp in the White House were refreshing and thought provoking.

Please continue doing what you do on the Sunday show and please keep speaking truth to power. I will miss you in the mornings, but look forward to hearing you on Sundays.

Thanks for the memories and laughs! Best of luck!

Sam,
I feel like I've been riding the Seder rollercoaster for quite some time now. It's been such a treat to have you around five days a week for the last three years, it will definitely be a jolt to my system when I can only hear you once a week. I hate to hear you give management credit for knowing what's good for aar when in reality they are the problem. There is nothing wrong with you, your show, or your time slot. They just want to make a change for the sake of change. I trust you have looked into Nova M? If not, PLEASE do! You'll do great wherever you go, your such a talented, smart and charming guy. I hate to lose so much time with you, though. Atleast there is Sunday...not too early I hope;)
Love you,

Why won't they STOP changing the shows around!? This is maddening!!

Sam, you are the best. I came to AAR because I'd been listening to Randi Rhodes for a long time when she was in West Palm, but now I mainly listen to you.

My wife and I were listening to the first broadcast by Internet stream when AAR started with Franken "in a bunker." And we were so excited to finally get talk that we could get into.

But with this announcement, I'm really past my limit with AAR now. They broke my heart when they killed Morning Sedition. But this is just unforgivable.

I don't get why THEY don't get that they have to invest some time and money in building these shows and audiences. If they can't get advertisers then they need to fire their sales people and get some new ones.

I hate mornings and you have made them not just bearable, but something that I look forward to.

Thanks for everything Sam.

I’m just re-uped for Premium. I almost want to cancel out in protest! If it weren’t for the idea that it would be counter productive. All I can do is appeal your misguided decision.

I'm already switching between AAR, Nova M Radio / Air America Phoenix, and AM-540 KRXA (which has Peter B. Collins, who is very good too).

Peter B's stream details are found at his website,

For me, it's Sam, Thom, Randi, Peter B or Rachel, Mike Malloy.

and in addition, i listen to AAR on my XM... just renewed that subscription - hope i can cancel if i'm not happy with sam's replacement... 'cause that is the only reason i have XM - for AAR... and, worse, i have to turn it off and stream thom hartmann to avoid the obnoxious red ed - another huge mistake, and what the hell is that about??? ed is not AAR...

Sam! You've got a loyal following...we'll follow you to the ends of the weekend! But one day a week ain't enough!

Let us know what we can do to get you on the air more frequently.

AAR is on the precipice of suckage.

Anonymous said...

While we all realize AAR is a business and as such needs to make money, this latest "business" decision to can Sam Seder is insane.

The same loyal listeners that rallied here in Portland, Maine, to keep AAR on the airwaves two years ago will go away. Does management think Limbaugh or Stern are the only hosts who have a loyal fan base?

Sam is smart, funny, down-to-earth, honest... and so it's time to fire him, huh?

There are a lot of pissed-off listeners here. Don't know if the Greens care. I used to care about AAR, but it's back to NPR for me.

I think the Greens are making a BIG mistake.

It is bad enough that XM radio doesn't carry Thom Hartmann and carries that Rush-sound-alike Ed Schultz, now this! We have no AAR affiliate in Albany, NY so I have to listen on XM or on-line (hard to do in the car!). But that is a complaint for another forum.

This is unbelievable! Why doesn't AAR wait for the ratings before making a move? I think Sam is better than Randi (I know I'm gonna get flamed for that). AAR has jerked their 9-12 (Eastern Time) audience around since the very beginning and I'm tired of it.

To be, or not to be....an imbecile.

I guess the new AAR management has chosen the "to be" option.

So the insight, the excitement, the wisdom, the cleansing hilarity you have blessed us with every day is to be yanked off the air!?

Frikkin unbelievable. So sorry, Sam. Please find a network which honors your genius, and please stay on the air!

Anonymous said...

WTF. Yeah AAR is going in a different direction, and it's time for this listener to do the same.

I'd rather listen to Rush Limbaugh than 10 minutes of Rhandi Rhodes horrible drama queen style or Thom Hartman proving to himself how much he knows.

The Sam Seder show was the most intelligent, witty and fun show this network had to offer, and I will definately stop listening now.

Anonymous said...

What happened to the contract Sam just signed? Was it not worth the toilet paper the Green brothers used it to wipe their asses with?

Sam was my second-favorite in AAR's current line-up, after Randi Rhodes. (Not counting Mike Malloy, who gives voice to the rage I feel, but he's not there any more.) My wife and I still listn to podcasts of Sam in the evening, because that's the time frame we grew accustomed to hearing him in first. With him gone (once a week is effectively nothing -- even Dewey won't call) I have only one reason (Randi) to listen to AAR. Hartmann and Elloit are OK, but they're like dry whole-wheat toast: good for you, but not something you consume with relish. (The figurative kind, not the kind made with pickles.)

I used to care whether AAR survived. Now I don't. I also used to care if AMERICA survived, but since I moved out of the country and got my money to Switzerland, I don't care so much about that any more either. Looks like Ed Schultz wins. I hope Nova-M will make a go of it. I'll play the same podcast of Malloy three times a day if I have to, because radical radio ranters are the background noise of my life. So sorry Sammy won't be among them any more.

Sam:

I stopped listening in this time slot when your predecessor program took it over ... and started again as soon as you went on the air.

OF COURSE, I'll listen to you on Sundays ... I consider you and Rachel to be two of the most progressive broadcasters in the business. That's different than liberal, you know ...

Your programs were the reasons that I donated to various political campaigns. I listened to the candidates on your show ...

I think you've brought enormous value to AAR. The various decisions of both the old AND the new management leaves me wondering at what the network is attempting to do. It's possible that they don't realize that our allegiance isn't to the network; it's to the people who inform and entertain us.

The best of luck to you ... and a small word of advice. I don't know if now's the time ... but call Sheldon.

The only bright side is that maybe now I will go back to being able to get something done in the afternoon. I used to get more exercise outside during the Springer show.

I'm gonna be really pissed off if your Sunday show turns out to be in an inconvenient spot, though. I don't suppose you could pick up Rachel's habit of making a free stream available from your site for those of us who miss you live....

I have no idea what AAR is thinking. I just got XM over the last month only so that I could pick up Air America and I enjoy listening to your show on my way from RADIATION TREATMENTS to work.

Yes, I am not beyond playing the pity card right in Air America's face, if that's what it takes to keep you on in the mornings! I also listen to you at work.

I really hope they check out the blogs and see how unhappy all the listeners are that they will be unable to listen to you in the mornings. People like you, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, and Rachel Maddow have helped keep me sane.

But most importantly, all those of us who have to commute to work need to hear your voice and biting wit in the morning to help us get ready for the drudgery and often conservative oppression of the working world! Since I've had Air America, this is the first time I've caught myself LAUGHING on the way to work and its because YOU are on! You have no idea what that means.

I guess I will have to get my "home kit" so I can listen to you on Sundays at home! Or maybe we'll get lucky and Air America will change their minds. If they keep this up, XM will lose lots of customers and I hope they realize what they are doing.

Lastly, I LOOOOOOOVE your show & I love you!!!

SAM SEDER SUNDAY!!!

Heck, the best thing about this concept is that Sam could work ALL DAY on Sunday (Sam has his Friday commitments anyhow, ya know) and it would fit in with the patchwork of 1 & 2 hr shows on weekends.

Hear me out.

Sam could have an hour LIVE every other hour between the other weekend shows! NO MORE REPEATS! Heck Sam could do Sam's Sunday Sermons in the AM and work into Sam's Sunday Brunch. Around 4 pm et Sam could start the show with Sam's Sunday Scoreboard, with lame sports analogies and his sidekick reading scores. Then a nice two-hour block of Sam's Sunday Guests around 9 pm et , kinda like "Late Late Edition - the VERY VERY LAST WORD in Sunday talk" !!! Take THAT CNN!

THEN, make EVERY HOUR syndicated! That way, many more stations suffering from BAD RADIO SYNDROME on Sundays can a la carte Sam Sedar Sundays !!!

Sam Seder needs a forum and has been a STAUNCH DEFENDER of the progressive movement since The Majority Report took to the air 2 years ago. Heck, Maron and Janeane can be guest hosts too (mebbe the Greens might see some "green" in this arrangement and bygones).

just sayin' ......
SAM SEDER SUNDAY!!!

Oh hey FYI - there is no way to track terrestrial radio listenership, there is no special device in a radio that lets a company know if you're tuned in or not (nor in a TV either)

Listenership is tracked by monitoring a volunteer sample of the population, using computerised monitoring devices installed on radios/TVs. FYI, we've had personal experience w/ this - they come in & attach stuff to your TV (or radio) essentially taking it apart & rebuilding it w/ the devices inside. Then when it's over, they come back & take it all apart again to remove the apparatus.& you have to push buttons every time to register what you're watching/listening to.

Internet streaming/podcasting is not the same obviously....

It usually takes months for radio listeners to 'warm up' to new hosts.eventually good hosts become like a familiar part of one's family.Sam has obviously endeared himself to most of AAr's listeners and his ratings have been going up.
Now we are being told by the 'new' owners that we have to start all over again from the begining and 'accept' a host who none of us have ever heard before.

In my humble opinion Mark green should be fired and sent to 'access hollywood' where he belongs

Anti-occupation march has been peaceful

LINK

BAGHDAD, April 9 — Tens of thousands of people marched to the city of Najaf today, the fourth anniversary of the fall of Baghdad, to protest the American occupation of Iraq.

The demonstration, which has remained peaceful, was being held at the urging of militant Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr. He exhorted Iraqi security forces on Sunday to unite with his militiamen against the American military in Diwaniya, an embattled southern city in Iraq where fighting has raged for four days.

Mr. Sadr’s statement did not explicitly call for armed struggle against the Americans, but it still represented his most forceful condemnation of the American-led occupation since he went underground after the start of an intensified Baghdad security crackdown nearly two months ago.

The demonstrators marched to Najaf, 100 miles south of Baghdad, from neighboring Kufa, with two cordons of Iraqi police lining the route. Some at the rally waved small Iraqi flags; others hoisted a giant flag 10 yards long, the Associated Press reported. Leaflets fluttered through the breeze reading: “Yes, Yes to Iraq” and “Yes, Yes to Moktada. Occupiers should leave Iraq.”

“The enemy that is occupying our country is now targeting the dignity of the Iraqi people,” said lawmaker Nassar al-Rubaie, head of Mr. Sadr’s bloc in parliament, as he marched, according to the A.P. “After four years of occupation, we have hundreds of thousands of people dead and wounded.”

Sam:
Here I am in the DC Metro.
A couple of years ago it was so exciting: we had a new "progressive" station and had you and janeane and al and maron and it was such a gas to keep the radio on all day.

Then we started losing it in DC. Having to hear watered-down Bill Press, super-ego Ed Schultz and awful weekend broadcasts that had little or nothing to do with the intellectual concerns of the liberal revolution.

So I started listening only on the computer. Then we lost Al (although I'm glad he's running for office), and janeane, and maron (twice!), and malloy and more... now you.

A Sunday show is wonderful, but it gives you such a small footprint.

Air America, new owners or not, continues to make mistakes and misreads its audience. I can't listen to Randi much anymore... too much screeching and squalling (and too much Randi). Rachel is about all that's left worth listening to.
Thom Hartmann, too, but he has always been there.

I've taken to tuning in Malloy on Nova M and trawling the dial for other voices. More and more it's NOT Air America... something 2 years ago I would never have said.

Good luck... maybe you could go freelance with the Sammy Cam the way the Young Turks do when they're not on Air AMERICA. i'd watch that!

I'm destroyed that you are not going to be on the air. You are my favorite (along with Randi) personality on Air America. Jerry Springer was a disaster, and the Rush Limbaugh-style guy on @ noon is terrible.

Who is going to be on in this slot?

Sam, i am sorry you have to reduce your radio-presence, hopefully its just temporary. I love your show, your invigorating sarcasm, thank you for all that. I don't know who they will replace you with, and if it is anything like replacement of Al Franken by Thom Hartmann (both of whom i respect, but Al was funny, and Thom is often boring) - Air America may loose substantial amount of its listeners.
You've had the best show for this time slot on AA, i doubdt they will come up with better stuff.
Thank you again, tons of luck to you !

p.s. At least now there will be something worthy of litening on Sundays. ))

Oh no! What the heck is going on.

First,in Atlanta with the silence of Air America from the airways and now Sam Seder being moved to Sundays. I really learned alot politicaly from your show. One day (Sunday) is not enough to learn what you have to give us.

When you started the announcement with this being your last week, my heart dropped. But I felt a "little" better when you were going to be broadcasting on Sundays. I sincerely hope that doesn't work out and your back to the morning timeslots.

Love your show Sam. Good luck with the new time slot. I know better things are to come for you.

I just read that your time slot is being taken over, at least in part, by the Young Turks. Are they kidding? The show is mostly unlistenable. Ben Mankiewicz is alright. Cenk Uyger is a light weight (figuratively, not literally). The mostly absent Jill Pike is attractive, but you don't watch the radio. AAR is taking a serious step backward in its programming.

PS - Is there anything we can do to complain to AAR - I also want to complain to XM since they are the carrier for the show in my area. If AAR continues to monkey around with good shows they will only have MORE financial problems, I would imagine. Think of the advert dollars they will lose if listeners are not satisfied with the new show and either pop in a CD or turn off the radio altogether.

We endured Jerry Springer in that slot, which was terrible, then Al Franken left to run for the Senate position so Sam Seeder was the strongest programming you had in the morning. Randi Rhodes holds up the afternoon.

You better have a very compelling replacement for Seeder or expect to loose your audience.

RIght this second Sam is running really good talk radio, which means bringing in a person worth hearing from, and then asking good short questions and listening without interruption so that we may actually hear from the interviewee. Check other shows and see how often this happens, and who (which hosts) actually listen to the guest. Thanks Sam. Hope Hartmann can cling a spot too.

The struggle of liberal radio is not about the ratings. It is about the advertisers. The major radio advertisers both locally and nationally are controlled by corporations. They are doing all they can to kill liberal talk radio, especially the hard hitting, truthful, and raw kind that Sam Seder presents. Maybe AAR, in an effort to placate the corporate cabal, have come up with a more Ed Schultz type to replace Sam.

..or maybe they got Don Imus really cheap..

This is the only show on AAR that I can sit all the way through. It's funny, smart and always entertaining.

I listen despite living in New York and having to practically stand on my head on top of a chair holding the radio to get any decent reception.

This decision makes no sense to me.

When it launched I listened to AAR all day long. Now, if this show is cancelled, I am down to sampling Rhandi Rhodes every couple of days.

Nice way to kill a station.

Anonymous said...

I'm not the kind of listener that gives much feedback (I don't call in or blog much) so I suppose the new and improved AA won't miss me but I'm not so sure their latest moves, including your departure, are exactly a pearl of wisdom, specially when they're leaving Randy in place (her condescending "preaching to the unenlightened" "if i want your opinion I'll give it to you" approach wore thin with me a third through the first show I endured). On the other hand your "from the heart" rants and sarcasm were fun to listen to (as was garoffalo btw)

Anonymous said...

If people want something "less substantive" they can listen to Conservative talk radio or NPR. There are about a million options.

Progressive radio should be about substance.

I just can't believe this news. On the way to work today I heard that Sam is out on weekdays and let me just say that I currently have heartburn because I've made myself so outraged. I've been screaming in my car for the past 1/2 hour using every curse word I can think of. I really don't know why AAR hates money. When this network satarted I thought, well, it will need some growing, but I think it is brilliant. Moring Sedition, O'Franken, and Majority Report were raw, but there was signs of awesomeness. Sure enough in less than a year these shows grew, the hosts became more polished, and I was fixed to AAR programming. That is when things got crazy.... First, just when Howard Stern announces that he is going off the air, leaving a HUGE vaccumn for morning radio, AAR announces a change of programming. Getting rid of the popular Moring Sedition, and replacing with Maddow. Great move AAR, I am sure putting a brand new show at that timeslot instead of an establised show that was growing in popularity must have made HUGE ratings for you. But this was just the begining of your monumental blunders. That was one that really pissed me off. As you continued to mismanage a successful programing network, I watched in wonder as to how you can ruin something that should easily work. Then when you moved your FLAGSHIP station in NYC to 1600AM, that's when I knew that AAR is over. First off, how can you have non-AAR programming on your fucking FLAGSHIP AAR station!!! With fucking sammie and armie as the lead in for Sam Seder, it's no fucking wonder that his show had to climb an uphill battle to get ratings. You know what I have to stop writing this cause I'm at work and I am going to blow a fucking gasket. Sam, you're awesome, please leave AAR cause this is a fucking sinking god-damm shithole of a ship. Fuck AAR...why do you hate money?!?

Sam,

I am cc'ing you on an e-mail I just sent to Air America. Sorry, but moving you to Sunday just doesn't cut it for me. I don't know what I'm going to do with weekday mornings.

Air America,

You are cancelling Sam Seder. Why?

I have been a devoted listener to Air America since its inception. I first tuned in (actually, I primarily listen to your Internet feed or to podcasts, and no, I am not a Premium member) to listen to Al Franken, whose program I loved, particularly when the show also featured Katherine Lamford (sp?), and now miss dearly. Like many of your listeners, Air America was the first station on the radio dial where I ever heard the views expressed and, more importantly, the questions asked that I as a liberal/progressive wanted to hear. And though I first tuned in for Al Franken, I also discovered a number of other great personalities with whom to share a few thought-provoking hours.

I actually began to listen to Sam Seder when he was filling in for Randi Rhodes, and then for Al Franken, and when he was given his own show, particularly the 9-12 slot, I thought it was a stroke of genius on the part of your programming. I mean here was a radio personality, that essentially your network created. No other of your on-air hosts have so completely come into their own as an Air America personality than Sam Seder has. I mean, Sam Seder. Who knew? And yet there he is: smart, funny, more practical than a number of your other hosts, perhaps a bit outspoken at times, but hey, he and his staff deliver the goods. With Sam Seder you always know that the truth wins out. I think he'd be the first to admit it. And hypocrisy, thankfully, for the most part, gets put in its place.

So why on are you cancelling his show? Did he piss someone off? Did he say something that is absolutely unforgivable or irretrievable?

I listen to Air America every freakin day. Sam Seder always. Tom Hartman sometimes. Randi Rhodes sometimes. But I tune in for Sam Seder every day. I want to hear what he has to say, and I want to hear him engage his audience as he does better than anyone else on your network. And you're letting him go?

I just hope somebody else hires him, or I guess I'll have to go back to listening to my itunes.

Sincerely,
Howard Solomon

I completely agree with the 10:54 AM post. Really - are AAR's ratings in the AM better without Morning Sedition ? Are the evenings' ratings better without The Majority Report? The new owner of the network is as clueless as the previous owners and that is quite discouraging.

Last year, the people of Oaxaca moved to oust their corrupt governor and establish a new form of horizontal self-government. The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head;
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;
From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;
Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!
But I, with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

The only hope is like Al Gore and his laptop show -if one just keeps plugging away, eventually the tipping point is reached. (and hopefully gets rich in meantime)

LETTER TO AAR: Re Sam's Show Change...

To Whom It May Concern,

I have been a listener of Air America Radio since its very begining. I listen to your station much more than WBAI, which actually is my favourite station. One of the reasons is SAM SEDER.

I remember Sam's early begining at the "Majority Report". I remember him stuttering, misspronouncing names and getting ridiculed by his "side-kick" , Ms. Jennine Garafalo (who I still miss on YOUR airwaves... A LOT!). Since Ms. Garafalo "left" the "Report", Sam bravely took the show upon his shoulders and raised it to another level. Sam INSTANTLY MATURED! He raised his satandards and by defult, the standards of AAR. He is an intelligent, brave and cohesive young and fresh voice the station desperately needs to protect and preserve. He obviously took the time to (and I'm sure still takes the time) to study and analize the HOT ISSUES of the day and quite responsibly reports and informs US the LISTENERS what is going on in America and beyond. He has brought and brings guests to the show that are brilliant, controversial and down right interesting and Sam has been rigth there with them at their own level and sometimes above, way above! He is simply BRILLIAN! He is SMART! He is INFORMED! He is COURAGEOUS!...And FUNNY!!!...And GOOD, very, very GOOD!

We learnerd today that AAIR has decided to move Sam out of his INDISPENSIBLE morning show and shove him into a Sunday 3 hour slot. WHAT AREYOU DOING AAR? Are you going to gives is more of "Jerry!"? Sam works for US; why fix what works for US (by the way, US = the LISTENERS).

Do I hear boycot?.....Sorry, the voices in my head are talking!

Jose Padilla,
AAIR LISTENER

Sam, I don't understand what AAR is doing. I understand Janine and Al Frankens departures but as for yours I can't. You are the freshest voice on the radio today. I hold you up as one THE reasons for the 2006 Democratic landslide. I will not be able to listen to your weekend show and probably will not listen to your replacement. AAR has really screwed the pooch on this woeful decision. I hope Mark Green as the new owner reconsiders.

Another boneheaded decision by the PTB at AAR. I'll be there for your show on Sundays, but I'll echo previous commentors and hope you get your own show on Nova M or some similiar network that recognizes your talent and what an asset you'd be to their lineup.

Thanks to all you Sam listeners for blogging here today. It shows how many people are really listening to Sam that even I was unaware of.

Glad to have your comments :)

I CAN"T BELIEVE THIS!!!

I am appalled at Sam's loss. It appears that the Greens are using a scorched-earth policy -- the same one that got Air America Radio in trouble in the first place. I can only get Thom Hartmann on the computer now at noon, because I get Ed Schultz over XM Radio (and he doesn't appeal to me -- he's rather like Rush Limburger) and now I find that my FAVORITE AAR personality is going to be taken off weekdays and only available on Sundays. In a word, this SUCKS! And they wonder why the station isn't doing better? Try not responding to the letters, calls and e-mails I have been sending for two months. I can only assume they show the same discourtesy to others who have done the same thing. I get letters back from my congressman and senators but NOTHING from AAR. Apparently they think they are too high-and-mighty to respond to the criticism and input of mere "listeners." They are going to sink like the Titanic, because I no longer feel sympathy for AAR, I am beginning to feel resentment and anger. Any sympatny has given way to anger at their high-handed and clumsy treatment of their listener's concerns.

Sam, I am so devistated! I got my purs stolen Friday, but that experience pales in comparison that I no longer get to wake up with you every morning

WTF!
Change the management, but leave the talent alone. This is the kind of crap that makes an outlet look like it's feeling it's way in the dark. Just when you get in to it, there goes the rug. I'll miss the show. It's getting harder and harder to listen to AAR when the constantly snipe-off the talent you like.

Sam, Please go to NovaM Radio--take Maron with you! Then there'd be you, Marc and the Malloy all on one station! Maybe even Rhandi would move over there too! Wouldn't it be nice if the remaining best talent of AAR would abandon Marc Gren instead of it being the other way around? Viva La NovaM!

It's devastating news that AAR is once again killing off it's best shows! I'm soo disgusted with AAR over the loss Malloy, Maron and now Sam!

Sam is the Daily Show of radio! He is articluate, intelligent, funny and he also inherited most of Franken's guests which is what I liked about that show. Now AAR wants to regulate LESS SUBSTANCE in Sam's time slot? WTF!?!?! Like too much substance is a problem we have in our media right now? So much for the "new leadership and direction" Green was supposed to take AAR.

Since Friday I've called and emailed AAR. I even said I wanted to cancel my premium subscription due to their no longer being interested in people such as myself being their listeners. No word such as yet from them, I don't really expect them to answer...they're no longer intersted in their listeners.

I'll listen to you on Sunday's Sam. But I hope you'll get your deserved daily 3hour show back---like say on..NovaM? :)

Shucks, this is disappointing. I only hope this
is not part of the effort of an insidious media-conglomerate ever pushing to undermine objectivity in news and commentary. Sam is about as insightful and bright a mind as we're likely to get in the talk format (did I mention witty??). The bright side: Less drek in weekend programming.

Thanks Sam! More power to ya...

Sam - I got the premium podcast package for AAR so that I could be sure to listen to you everyday (along with Jon Elliott and Randi Rhodes). You have become my favorite host to listen too (your humor and your rants were awesome).

I can't believe the new management is moving you to an obscure Sunday show!!!! You'll only be available once a week!

The only consolation I can gather is that at least you'll be able to unspin the spew on the Sunday talking heads shows.

I'll still podcast ya Sam and shame on management!

Thank You, Sam. You are the best thing on radio. Not a wise decision by the management; Monday through Fridays will not be the same.

What's next, AAR, going to pull the plug on Randi next? That will certainly be the last straw for me. I agree with "gail" above; I prefer Thom Hartmann over Ed Shultz, who seems to have a more sensationalistic style like Rush or Hannity, although at least he doesn't spout the hateful rhetoric of those two.

Sam Seder is a bright spot in my day. He is funny, entertaining, topical, charismatic, and enjoyable. This is a HUGE loss for AAR's listeners during the week.
