Monday

And the nutjobs wrapped up their convention.

Will Ann Coulter still be invited onto "mainstream" news outlets?

Will Rudy's kids sabotage him?

Will privatization ever work as the cons say it will?

All this and more, on Monday.

Already a terrible fear has seized him;
In vain he will resist!

Unit 731 was a covert medical experimentation unit of the Imperial Japanese Army that researched biological warfare through human experimentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) and World War II. It was responsible for some of the most notorious war crimes carried out by Japanese personnel. Officially known by the Imperial Japanese Army as the Army Epidemic Prevention Research Laboratory, it was initially set up as a political and ideological section of the Kempeitai military police of pre-Pacific War Japan. It was meant to counter the ideological or political influence of enemies, and to reinforce the ideology of military units.

The unit was disguised as a water purification unit and was based in the Pingfang district of the northeast Chinese city of Harbin, part of the puppet state of Manchukuo. It worked through Japanese political propaganda and as an ideological representative of the Imperial Japanese Army's Kodoha (Imperial way faction, or war party). In the first phase, this section worked against communist propaganda, but extended its responsibilities in other directions, at home and overseas.

It became a rough equivalent to the German Nazi SS propaganda departments. They promoted racial superiority, racialist theories, counterespionage, intelligence, political sabotage and infiltration of enemy lines

'Chinky' Still an Old-school Gangster at 96 -
America's oldest mobster deals with the prosecutors to keep out of jail

When Albert "Chinky" Facchiano was born in 1910, Al Capone was just another young thug in short trousers, stealing lunch money from children in a school playground in Brooklyn. Almost a century later, Scarface and the other legendary gangsters of his ilk are long gone - dead of old age, whacked in mob hits or simply vanished into witness protection programmes.

But Facchiano, also nicknamed "The Old Man" for his decades as a henchman for New York's ruthless Genovese crime family, is very much alive. He is days from his 97th birthday and destined to spend his final years in a luxury waterfront apartment in Miami, despite pleading guilty in a Florida courtroom last week to racketeering, conspiracy and witness tampering.

Matty the Horse on his last ride

NEW YORK: At an age when most of his contemporaries were long retired or in prison, Matty "The Horse" Ianniello was still going.

Retirement held no appeal for the old man — and why would it? The notorious Genovese crime family captain, an eyewitness to gangland history from the slaying of "Crazy Joey" Gallo through the conviction of Vincent "The Chin" Gigante, ascended to family boss just three years before his 80th birthday.

It was 1997, and big money was rolling in from rackets in Little Italy, the garbage industry, a mobbed-up union local. The silver-haired Ianniello kept $130,000 in cash around his suburban home, adding a touch of green to his golden years.

It took almost a decade, but "The Horse" now faces the last roundup: He pleaded guilty in a pair of racketeering cases last year. Death behind bars is a possibility for the mobster, who eschewed a graceful exit and ignored organized crime history — the boss always becomes the No. 1 target of law enforcement.

Even if he's 86 years old. Even if he knows better.

"You know these mob guys — it's a way of life," said mob expert Howard Abadinsky, a St. John's University professor and author of several books on organized crime. "To leave is like walking away from family, except with quote marks around 'family.'

Chavez claims Jesus as inspiration for socialist dictatorship

...Meanwhile, some priests have increasingly been speaking up in favor of Chavez’s ideals.

Monsignor Edgar Doria said he thinks Chavez shares Christian principles like social justice and equality, and that the church can be a key ally in social programs for the poor.

Bishop Mario Moronta wrote in a recent letter, widely published in Venezuelan media, that the church has a role to play in discussing the "21st Century Socialism" espoused by Chavez.

"We are called to participate in just efforts to overcome poverty," Moronta wrote. "Every Catholic and person of good will has much to contribute."

Corpse In Suitcase On Westchester Shore

March 5, 2007 -- A woman's torso stuffed into a suitcase washed up in a beachfront Westchester park over the weekend, cops said yesterday.

People walking along the shore in Mamaroneck's Harbor Island Park made the gruesome find Saturday at 2:10 p.m.

The body was that of a Hispanic or light-skinned African-American between 35 and 50 years old and about 200 pounds.

She had a tattoo of two cherries on a stem above her right breast.

It is unclear how long the body was in the water, but Lt. James Gaffney said that based on water temperatures, it appears the death was "recent."

Mamaroneck was hard hit by last week's rainstorm, which probably caused the suitcase to float down either the Mamaroneck or Sheldrake River to the park on Long Island Sound, Gaffney said.

Fear and Loathing in Upstate New York

BREWSTER, N.Y. (AP) -- It was a hectic weekend for an alleged crack user looking for ways to fund his fix. State Police say Matthew Black of Brewster went to Newburgh Friday to buy drugs. When he realized he didn't have 300 dollars, he gave the dealers his car -- which actually belonged to his mother -- as collateral, and said he'd have the money the next day.

On Saturday, the drug dealers wanted their cash, and they drove Black to his father's home in Brewster. Police say Black's father refused to give his 27-year-old son money for drugs and went to call police. His son took a .38 caliber revolver from his dad's drawer and gave the gun to the drug dealers -- who were satisfied and drove off.

Police stopped the drug dealers' car on Route 84 and arrested three men.

They are identified as:

- 42-year-old Jacque Pierre Louis of Newburgh;
- 18-year-old Oscar Flores of Fishkill;
- 16-year-old Kenyl Torres of Fishkill.

Police have charged the men and the son with grand larceny, possession of a firearm and drugs.

Upstate Arrests Lead To Long Island Drug Bust

TROY, NEW YORK (AP) -- Troy city police say two arrests near Albany have helped federal law enforcement officials make a $40 million cocaine bust in Long Island.

Rensselaer County District Attorney Patricia DeAngelis says the bust was tipped off by the arrests of two arrests low-level drug dealers in Troy last summer.

The arrests sparked a nine month investigation into an international drug ring that was smuggling cocaine from Mexico across the country and eventually to a distribution point in Suffolk County.

Police say the ring was organized by 38-year-old Norman Goode, a Suffolk County Corrections Officer. Four hundred and sixty pounds of pure cocaine along $5 million in cash and several guns were seized in Long Island Wednesday.

According to DeAngelis, Goode was one of the most major drug dealers in the city of Troy and surrounding areas.

Goode and ten others, including six from the Albany-area, have been federally indicted. They face 20 years to life in prison. The six Capital Region suspects will be in federal court Monday.

UN: 4.5 Million Iraqi Children Malnourished

Apart from dodging bombs and bullets in their schools and neighborhoods, children in Iraq are suffering from worryingly high levels of malnourishment, according to specialists. Poverty and insecurity are said to be the main causes of the children's deteriorating diets. Despite efforts by NGOs and the Iraqi government, violence and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people are making it very difficult for monthly food rations to reach those families that need them most. According to the United Nations Children's Agency (UNICEF), about one in 10 children under five in Iraq are underweight and one in five are short for their age. This means that some 4.5 million children in the country are under-nourished.

You have hit on a theme with stealing of taxpayer money through a scheme of privatization of government as the main aim of the so called conservatives.

Remember the airport security companies that was privatized before 9/11 and how bad they were.

If you examine how privatization has used in government and where it has been successful is rare.

This should be a theme for progressives to stop the privatization and deregulation is anti to American interest.

I believe the GOP had adopted a scheme to get outsourced funds into their campaign coffers

Sam - Great book for you and or Thom Hartman. Review the trend of privtization and how it has cost us ten fold by the tax payers. Also tell them that the reason they want privitization is to cover the fact that all other industries are sucking other then the private sector takin over the government.

One more - was watching the Discovery Channel - Jesus Tomb - great story - (follow up a little bias when they ask only Christians regarding the likelyhood of the story of the tomb) Would have been alittle better to have other religious (jewish) people to review.

Anyway - there is a special in two weeks called

"Our Children's Children's War" Made me want to puke - can you believe this crap - they are trying to tell us it is okay to fight this crap this way for generations.

OK, Im hear. Seriously, I dont knopw what gets into people. I work so hard trying to promote responsible marijuana legalization, and two conservative numbnuts who want to make pot smokers demonized go and allow themselves to be video tapedtrying to make a baby smoke weed. I think we should make an example of anyone who is so obviously a republican plant meant to demonize and propagandize marijuana injustly. If these two asses had meth, it would have been meth they gave to that baby and no SOB pundit on CNN or Fox is gonna tell me different. Dont let anyone blame pot for what a couple of sadistic retards do to a baby. Same if they jumped of a roof thinking they could fly. No ones that high, weed doesnt get ou that high, cant get you that high as to corrupt your moral code. So if two pigs are trying to get a baby stoned, one, theyre conservatives I guarantee it. Two, if they say they are liberals, they are lying and obvious plants. Three, Ill bet these idiots have ties to someone close to George Bush. And four, after all the work donr as of late trying to promote responsible and rational decriminalization of marijuana Im discusted by this and offended that these little ignorant basterds would jeprodize all that hard work and step all over everything bad Ive tried to reverse regaurding the stigma associated with pot... I sentence those two jagoffs to never being allowed to smoke weed again. ANd if they do then they have to go to Iraq cause theyre F ing it up for the rest of us.

People in these sects are trained to buy the periphenalia of the religion, trained to buy it thinking that by buying it it will help bring on the rapture. The 65,000,000 books sold, of coarse, and they all believe every time theres a new book written that that will somehow be the new manual for rapture that they need no matter what. The get the manual and think, that money will go to a political canidate who will fight Row Wade. Its a tithe. A contrabution to a genocide they want to happen.

wdmosely said...

Sam I disagree with yout that they are just a movement that hates gays.

They actually hate Blacks and most minorities including gays.

This is not a new phenomonon per se...Ther same people who used to head up the KKKs and groups supporting slavery are the same people that we are fighting now.

They killed Abe Lincoln and JFK and MLK.

This is not new. Trent Lott and Strom thurmond were apart of this crowd.

And I said no - because they have lost their purpose - to bring common people together for the better good. They have chosen to be a divider in a society.

He said - well a lease Falwell is old and will die soon - and I said unfortuntely the damage is done.

Don't know what the original post is it would not come up, but speaking of privatization, Tennessee lawmakers are introducing a bill to authorize toll roads. In the measure it reads"...,or constructed and operated by private contractors on a for profit basis." Sadly the House sponsor is a Democrat, Rep. Phillip Pinion of Union City, TN. The Senate sponsor is Republican Diane Black of Gallitin, TN. But get this, Pinion is dating a former Tennessee Department chief of staff named Velma Jones. She is a lobbyist for an engineering firm involved in toll roads. This info was published in today's The Commercial Appeal of Memphis.
Please mention on the air if possible so people can call their lawmakers and oppose this rediculous bill that can only lead to disaster.

Anger on Display Among Conservative PAC Audience
Monday, March 05, 2007

By Kelley Beaucar Vlahos

WASHINGTON — America's conservatives are mad and they're not going to take it anymore.

That was the message the movement's leaders delivered throughout the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C. last week.

One after another, conservatives told FOXNews.com that they are angry, irritated, frustrated and in some cases depressed. And the target of their angst and ire is none other than the Republican Party, which wants and needs their support to win the 2008 presidential election and avoid losing more seats in the Senate and House next election.

Many of these conservatives, whose national stars began to rise with the presidential election of Ronald Reagan in 1980, described the GOP's state of affairs in Washington with words like "failed," defeated" and "in the grave."

"The Republican Party apparently has a death wish, but that doesn't mean we conservatives have to go along with it," Richard Viguerie, a movement veteran who helped elect Reagan, said during his wildly-received speech delivered Thursday. "Let's focus on the conservative movement, not the GOP."

Heh!

toniD said...

They have Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley speaking at the committee meeting at c-span. He's the one that allowed the privatization and allowed everything to deteriorate at Walter Reed.

So they fired Gen Weightman who was starting to make changes and put Kiley back in charge when the shit hit the provebial fan as the Walter Reed story in the WaPo came out!

He's giving his opening statement right now and is spinning of course!

Gay slur at conservative conference draws flak
Published: Monday March 5, 2007

A popular commentator's gay slur at a key political conservative conference in Washington drew strong protests Sunday as Republicans rushed to distance themselves.

Ann Coulter, an outspoken conservative pundit widely seen in print, on television and radio, suggested Friday that Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards was a "faggot" -- a derogatory term for a homosexual -- at the annual meeting in Washington of the influential Conservative Political Action Conference.

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards. But it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,'" Coulter said to howls and applause.

But two days afterwards, Democrats were bashing Coulter for hate speech and Republicans, including leading candidates who attending the same conference, rejected her language.

"It would be better, in my opinion, to not have a CPAC at all than to have one that presents conservatism as a hostile, people-hating ideology," said Amy Ridenour, whose National Center for Public Policy Research was one of the paying sponsors for CPAC.

"We conservatives have enough trouble overcoming the false things that are said about us without paying for a platform upon which we shoot ourselves annually in the foot," she wrote on her weblog Sunday.

On his campaign website, Edwards said that in her remarks, "Republican mouthpiece Ann Coulter brought hate-speech politics to a new low."

FLASHBACK: In 2005, Kiley Covered Up Abuse At Military Detention Centers
Lt. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley commanded Walter Reed from 2002-2004. Recent reports show that Kiley knew about the neglect and deplorable conditions there for years. In one stunning case, Kiley took no action when personally informed that a soldier was sleeping in his own urine. He continues to skirt responsibility for the neglect, calling the Washington Post’s Walter Reed investigation “yellow journalism at its worst.”

But this scandal isn’t the first time Kiley has tried to play down “allegations of concerns with the Army medical community.” In 2005, his office conducted a review of medical personnel overseas, after multiple reports alleging their roles in detainee abuse.

– A report in the New England Journal of Medicine found that “U.S. Army doctors violated the Geneva Conventions by helping intelligence officers carry out abusive interrogations at military detention centers, perhaps participating in torture.”

– A 2004 study in The Lancet, a prestigious British medical journal, found that medical personnel “collaborated with interrogators or abusive guards and failed to properly report injuries or deaths caused by beatings.”

With all the talk of Walter Reed hospital, everyone's mind is cast back to the movie "Born On The Fourth Of July".

However, has anyone seen the 1988 tv movie "Tumbledown", with Colin Firth?

It covers the same topics, but with the background of the Falklands War. I remember watching it when was first broadcast, but I think not a lot of people have seen it since.
