Casual Friday ... Extreme!

Today's edition of Casual Friday has been dubbed "Casual Friday Extreme!" by the Sam Seder Juggernaut. Because, we'll, we're not in the studio today. It's that casual.

So, the Drudge Report is linking to an Evening Standard story about an ancient picture of Tony Blair making an "obscene gesture." Maybe he's pretending to grab his "Wee Prime Minister." But maybe, just maybe, he's playing that sadistic game that junior-high boys tend to play. You know, the one where I make a circle with my thumb and forefinger below my waist, and if you look at it I get to punch you twice in the shoulder. Anyone? Anyone?

Hi, Jim.

Hadda friend die unexpectedly here recent.

Nancy, inna unlikely turn of events, cast me inna Tennessee Wms. play based solely upon a gut feeling, i.e. w/o knowing me from Adam and despite my having no acting experience whatsoever, which, if you know anything about the petty back-biting politics and incestuous nature of community theater, took some genuine courage. She was a good woman and I'll miss her quick wit and warm heart.

Hadda coupla trips, one for family, one for pleasure.

Beyond that, gonna be goofy Uncle Dave tonight for my two nieces' combo birthday party. Gotta leave shortly.

I'm streaming this Nova M Radio/ Air America Phoenix come KPXS, and this goddamned Cynthia Black bimbo is interviewing right wing spook John J. Joftus.

Who is this bimbo? What is this crap about 'Saddam was making parts of nuclear weapons'? In collaboration with Syria and Pakistan? Saddam had a special liaison with Al-Qaeda? And Loftus is looking forward to Glenn Beck covering his convention?

Is this the end of Air America Radio? Because I had thought that Air America Phoenix was the original. This sounds like it is infiltrated with right wing spooks and infiltrators.

I like that Air America Phoenix / Nova M Radio has a steadier stream than Air America.

But I'm highly suspicious of their non-famous presenters. And also, they do infomercials, which is terrible on radio.

Their realestate segment is terrible. If you want stuff like that, you can go to Youtube.

I like (when he was on) Peter B. Collins and of course I like Mike Malloy.

I would like to now more about that station, though. How can someone like John Loftus just sneak on there, and be fawned over by Cynthia Black?

Wisconsin turns down abstinence-only money. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle (D) “has directed the state to turn down about $600,000 in federal abstinence education money because new rules would limit how much recipients could talk about contraception or sexually transmitted diseases this year.”

This is modern conservatism: Coulter “clarifies” her Edwards remark: “C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.” Coulter also shares her views on Iran: “My thesis is that right-wingers think that Rudy Giuliani would immediately bomb Iran, and so we kind of like that. But I’d like to get that in writing before you make him our presidential nominee.”

Questions.

1) Who on earth is Cynthia Black?

2) Why is she fawning over this Fox News shill Loftus?

3) Why does she have 'a problem just saying progressive'?

4) Why is she introducing John Loftus with 'he will say some things that liberals may not want to hear'?

So we're just hypocrits, we are just toeing the party line, when we say that Sadam had no connections to Al-Qaeda, and Sadam had no WMDs?

And this is on the say so of former Fox News 'analyst' John J. Loftus???

Who is this woman? What the hell is going on at Air America Phoenix??

Are you being infiltrated again, like you were with Air America?

Anyway, Loftus' page is at:

San Francisco: 12th Annual Anarchist Bookfair (1st of 2 days)

When: Saturday, March 17 2007 @ 10:00 AM PST - 06:00PM

Where: San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park, near Ninth Avenue and Lincoln Way
San Francisco, CA

Description: EVERYONE is invited to the Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair!

This event is FREE.

The Anarchist Bookfair has been a San Francisco tradition for over a decade, and has become one of the largest annual gatherings of anarchists and radical books in the world. Last year, during the 11th Annual Anarchist Bookfair in March 2006, over four thousand people–from every walk of life, locals from San Francisco and visitors from around the world–enjoyed good conversation, speakers, art, and of course..books!

It was easy to spend the entire day between browsing the long tables of books, magazines, zines, artwork, videos and other wares, sitting in the sun eating sandwiches from the worker-owned cafĂ© or listening to a wide variety of speakers who took on subjects from the need to abolish the institution of the state (Ward Churchill), to a young dyke’s adventures in San Francisco in the mid 90s (Michelle Tea).

With so much to do and see, the Bookfair has expanded into two days for 2007! Approximately 50 anarchist groups and alternative book, magazine, and publishing people will be represented at tables selling and distributing books and materials you won’t find anywhere else.

The plans for the event also include a cafe, spoken word presentations, kid & family space, free bike valet and an art gallery.

I'm going! I get to see Ward speak....yay for me!

Brit Hume On Walter Reed: ‘It Looks Terrible’ For The Bush Administration, ‘Which Is The Problem’ »
This morning on Fox News Sunday, Brit Hume spoke about the Walter Reed scandal in entirely political terms, saying “the problem” is that it “looks terrible” for the administration.

Hume called the neglect and deplorable conditions at the military hospital a “potential” political firestorm, but said that the “administration did what it did to try to get it over with, and it may well have succeeded.”

Hume suggested that if Democrats had not taken control of Congress in November’s election, the Bush administration would not have demanded resignations from the Army Secretary and the chief of Walter Reed. “This is an administration which is known or had been known for sticking by people even when they were embattled.” Watch it:

US soldier deletes AP photographer's photos, threatens violence RAW STORY
Published: Sunday March 4, 2007

Following a suicide bombing and ensuing gunfight between Afghan militants and American soldiers on Sunday, a US soldier demanded that an Associated Press photographer delete his photos. The photographer, Rahmat Gul, did not witness the suicide attack or the gun battle, reports the AP, but was in the vicinity.

Gul and a video cameraman working for AP Television News were taking pictures of a vehicle inside which four people had been shot to death, when a US soldier demanded that Gul delete his photos.

The report continues, "Gul said he later received permission to take photos from another soldier, but that the first soldier came back and angrily told him to delete the photos again. Gul said the soldier then raised his fist as if he was going to strike Gul."

The US military did not comment on the matter.

The segments are as follows:

2) Steven Colbert gives you the plan in a nutshell. lol...

4) SEIU Chair Andy Stern gives the worker's take on The Rachel Maddow Show.
5) Columnist Paul Krugman analyzes the plan on The Sam Seder Show.
6) Nick Dupree on NPR's All Things Considered. February 2003. You can also listen to this independent of the podcast here.

For us old timers that remember him:

Senator and statesman, Thomas Eagleton dies at 77

Retired U.S. Sen. Thomas F. Eagleton -- a towering figure in national and state politics for half a century and the person for whom the federal courthouse downtown is named -- died late Sunday morning.

He was 77. He had been ill for several months with various health problems. He died at St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights.

Colorful, blunt and candid, with a booming voice and ready recall of history, Sen. Eagleton exuded the aura of the statesman that adversaries and admirers agreed he had become.
snip
Nationally, Sen. Eagleton, an early opponent of the U.S. role in the Vietnam War, made his mark as chief author of the federal War Powers Act, which limited the authority of the president to wage war without congressional approval.

He was known also for his brief stint in 1972 as the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern. Sen. Eagleton was forced to step down when his electric shock treatments for depression in the 1960s became public.

Since 1997, McGovern has stated publicly several times that he made a mistake and should have kept Sen. Eagleton on the ticket.

Zapatista organizing

Here are some of the principles:

No leadership

Ask questions; no real answers (We want to keep our comments brief because we don't believe we have real answers.)

Ricardo is coordinator, but we are all in charge; that is we are non-hierarchical.

Mutual respect

Collective organizing and collective partnership

Mexicanos sin fronteras are regional, but every committee is autonomous (autonomous organizing)

No one person or no one head decides for anyone else what’s good for a place

It is very important to include women in the organizing; the voice of women is essential for the movement, but the voice of women are used to promote not women but the work of the movement.

NY Times Editorial: A List To Reverse "Lawless Policies" Of Bush And Cheney
The New York Times | March 4, 2007 09:16 AM

The Bush administration's assault on some of the founding principles of American democracy marches onward despite the Democratic victory in the 2006 elections. The new Democratic majorities in Congress can block the sort of noxious measures that the Republican majority rubber-stamped. But preventing new assaults on civil liberties is not nearly enough.

Five years of presidential overreaching and Congressional collaboration continue to exact a high toll in human lives, America's global reputation and the architecture of democracy. Brutality toward prisoners, and the denial of their human rights, have been institutionalized; unlawful spying on Americans continues; and the courts are being closed to legal challenges of these practices.

Investors Prepare For Shaky Week On Wall Street
Associated Press | MADLEN READ | March 4, 2007 01:36 PM

If last week was Wall Street's big dive, this week will be where it tries to figure out how deep the water is.

Stocks are in for a shaky ride, now that the past five sessions have erased all of this year's gains and then some. Investors in the coming days will be grasping at any and all signals, both domestic and foreign, to see if the market can find a foothold.

Top GOP Candidates Denounce Right Wing Harpy
New York Times | March 3, 2007 05:08 PM

The remarks by Ann Coulter, an author who regularly speaks at conservative events, were sharply denounced by the candidates, Senator John McCain of Arizona, Rudolph W. Giuliani of New York and Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Their statements came after Democrats, gay rights groups and bloggers raised a storm of protest over the remarks.

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference before an overflow crowd on Friday, Ms. Coulter said, "I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I -- so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

Scientists: 10 Years To Save Disappearing LA Coastline
The New Orleans Times-Picayune | Bob Marshall | March 4, 2007 10:42 AM

The satellite map in Kerry St. Pe's office shows the great sweep of marshes protecting New Orleans from the Gulf in bright red, a warning they will vanish by the year 2040, putting the sea at the city's doorstep.

Coastal scientists produced the map three years ago.

They now know they got it wrong.

"People think we still have 20, 30, 40 years left to get this done. They're not even close," said St. Pe, director of the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program, which seeks to save one of the coast's most threatened and strategically vital zones.

The plot thickens:
Sen. Pete V. Domenici (R-N.M.) acknowledged today that he contacted the U.S. attorney in Albuquerque last fall to inquire about the status of an ongoing corruption probe of Democrats, saying he regretted the call but "never pressured him nor threatened him in any way."

Domenici also said he had told the Justice Department that U.S. Attorney David C. Iglesias should be replaced, but said that occurred prior to the call about the criminal investigation of Democrats.
