On the Iraq funding bill.

I keep hearing the president will veto this, adn that there will be a standoff, and that the dems wont have enough votes to override a veto.

I still have not heard a singel farking retarded talking head, in any of the networks nor any of the cable shows bring up the obvious point that it is not necessary to override a veto to prevail.

The democrats have put the money, and the conditions, on the table.

The president can take it, or leave it.

If he leaves it, he has no money to run the war. All the dems need to do is NOTHING.

Then they will make the argument that the dems are not funding the war putting troups at risk.

THEN PELOSI AND REAID NEEDS TO GET OUT THERE AND SAY THE FOLLOWING:

WE HAVE FUNDED THE WAR. ALL THE PRESIDENT HAS TO DO TO GET THE MONEY IS SIGN THE BILL. WE CANNOT DO THAT FOR HIM AND ANOTEHR BILL WILL NOT BE FORTHCOMING.

And that should mark the end of the debate. This will not convince O Reilly and his liar buddies, but it will convince the rest of the nation. Those are the ones that count.

Fear and Vitriol in the Halls of Congress

Edgy Dems Snarl at Their Antiwar Base

clip

"The striking thing about the poll is how well Kucinich did. He is the only one in the entire pack who can legitimately claim to be antiwar.

Obama and Edwards were ahead of him only because they are widely perceived, or more accurately misperceived, as antiwar. And of course they get tons of sympathetic coverage in the mass media. But their true colors are becoming ever clearer. Recently (4/29) in the Washington Post, the rabid neocon Robert Kagan of the American Enterprise Institute, adviser to the McCain campaign and lead proponent of war on Iran, heaped praise on Obama for being an advocate of pre-emptive war and of increasing the army and marines by tens of thousands of troops.

clip
(For his part Edwards is now exposed by Senator Durbin's disclosure that the Senate Select Intelligence Committee knew that the administration was lying in the lead-up to the war on Iraq. Durbin excuses himself from hiding the truth from the public by saying the committee was sworn to secrecy. But that was a time to come forward with the truth and take the consequences--even jail--to stop a war based on lies. And it is even worse to have been on that committee and to have voted for the war.

clip

John Edwards was on that committee. John Edwards voted for the war. It turns out that John Edwards did in fact know then what he knows now! Durbin is the second Senator to have outed Edwards in this way, the first being former Senator Bob Graham.

The Democrats are in an awful bind. ... "

That Carrier was one one mission in the Battle of Iraq..

The War on Terror is made up of many Battles..

The Battle of Iran is next..

It too will require many missions..

Federal Army Harrasses Zapatista Commanders

Communiqué of the CCRI-CG of EZLN, 30 of April 2007

COMMUNIQUE OF THE CLANDESTINE REVOLUTIONARY INDIGENOUS COMMITTEE - GENERAL COMMAND OF THE ZAPATISTA ARMY OF NATIONAL LIBERATION.
Sixth Commission of the EZLN.

MEXICO. 30 OF APRIL 2007.

TO THE PEOPLE OF MEXICO:
TO THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD:
TO THE OTHER CAMPAIGN:
THE EZLN MAKES THE FOLLOWING DENUNCIATION PUBLIC:

FIRST. - ELEMENTS OF THE FEDERAL ARMY HARASSED THE DELEGATES OF THE SIXTH COMMISSION OF THE EZLN WORKING ON THE OTHER CAMPAIGN IN THE NORTHEAST REGION OF OUR COUNTRY.

SECOND. - 29 OF APRIL, AT APPROX 1930 HOURS, THE CONVOY OF ADHERENTS OF THE OTHER CAMPAIGN THAT ACCOMPANIES COMANDANTAS MIRIAM AND EUCARIA, AND COMMANDANTE ZEBEDEO, WAS STOPPED AT THE MILITARY CHECKPOINT ON THE HIGHWAY FROM MONTEMORELOS TO LINARES, NUEVO LEON.

THE SOLDIERS AGGRESSIVELY SEARCHED AND INTERROGATED THE CIVILIANSS ACCOMPANYING THE ZAPATISTA DELEGATION, AND PHOTOGRAPHED THEM AND THEIR VEHICLES, WHICH THEY SEARCHED EXHAUSTIVELY.

THIRD. - FROM THE BEGINNING OF OUR DIRECT PARTICIPATION IN THE OTHER CAMPAIGN, MANY DIFFERENT FEDERAL AND STATE POLICE BODIES, AS WELL AS ELEMENTS OF "INTELLIGENCE" OF THE FEDERAL ARMY AND THE CISEN, HAVE BEEN DEDICATED TO MONITORING THE SIXTH COMMISSION, AS WELL AS TAKING PHOTOS, DATA AND, IN SOME CASES, TO HARASSING THE PEOPLE WHO ACCOMPANY US OR THOSE TO WHOM WE HAVE LISTENED ON OUR ROUTE.

THESE SPIES HAVE VERIFIED THAT THE EZLN IS NOT PROMOTING ARMED WARFARE, BUT THE CIVIL ORGANISATION OF PEOPLE. THEY KNOW THAT, UNLIKE THE POLITICAL GOVERNORS AND PARTIES, WE DO NOT LIE, BUT LISTEN TO AND ECHO THE INJUSTICES OUR PEOPLE UNDERGO THROUGHOUT THE NATIONAL TERRITORY. THEY ALSO KNOW THAT WE DO NOT TRANSPORT ARMS OR DRUGS.

IN THE LAST PART OF THE FIRST STAGE, THIS HARASSMENT BECAME GREATER, AND NOW, ON THIS OCCASION, THE AGGRESSION WAS DIRECTLY AGAINST THE ZAPATISTA DELEGATION.

FOURTH. - WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE OTHER CAMPAIGN, THE EZLN HAS FOLLOWED THE WAY OF CIVIL AND PEACEFUL STRUGGLE. IT IS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE AND VERIFIABLE THAT THE EZLN DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH ORGANIZED CRIME, NEITHER INSIDE NOR OUTSIDE THE GOVERNMENTAL SPHERES OR THOSE OF THE POLITICAL PARTIES. IT IS A RIDICULOUS AND UNFOUNDED PRETEXT, AND THESE ARGUMENTS ARE USED TO ATTACK TO OUR COMRADES

FIFTH. - IF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS ALREADY DECIDED TO CLOSE DOWN THAT CIVIL ROUTE, AND DECIDES NOW ON THE RESUMPTION OF THE WAR IN THE MEXICAN SOUTHEAST, IT WOULD DO WELL TO STATE IT CLEARLY. IN ANY CASE, WE ARE READY. FOR ONE THING OR ANOTHER.

SIXTH. - WE MAKE A CALL TO NOBLE AND HONEST PEOPLE THAT THEY DECLARE THEMSELVES AGAINST THESE HARASSMENTS.

DEMOCRACY! FREEDOM! JUSTICE!

From the other North of Mexico.
By the Clandestine Revolutionary Indigenous Committee-General Command and the Sixth Commission of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation. Subcommandante Insurgente Marcos.

We were duped into going to war after 9/11, but now that the politics of fear has long past we need to urge our leaders to restore the respect that the US had. War is not the answer for terrorism, it is one of the reasons the terror exists. If conservatives really want to fight terror then they should look into different alleys where funding would actually make a great impact. This war has cost over $340 billion to date. According to the Borgen Project, it costs just $19 billion annually to end starvation and malnutrition or just $23 billion annually to reverse the spread of Malaria and AIDS. Wouldn’t aiding in the development of countries and ending poverty be a better plan for attacking extremism?

Whistling past the graveyard is your job.
----------------------------------
WD: I have never understood the fuss over " Mission Accomplished " ...
---
I am not surprised. A modicum of political rhetoric acumen is required. Rule #1 is; never make a public statement that will return to bite you in the ass.

Examples: Nixon, "I am not a crook." Clinton, "I never had sexual relations with that woman." G.W.Bush (too numerous to list, but the biggie is), "Mission accomplished."

For those who might be slow on the uptake, the results were as follows. Nixon WAS a crook. Clinton DID have sexual relations with that woman. The Bush mission WAS NOT accomplished.

A military mission WAS accomplished. Military missions tend to be narrowly defined and limited in scope.

Sometimes, rarely, a military mission and a political mission coincide. Example: Military mission; drop atomic bombs on selected cities in Japan. Political mission; force a surrender from Japanese leaders. (Note that both missions were destructive in nature, NOT constructive in nature. The political mission WAS NOT concerned with post-surrender Japan. The political mission was to crush the will of Japan's leaders to continue wartime hostilities. The U.S.'s political leaders lucked out--Japan was a homogeneous nation inclined to accept the surrender of its leaders.)

In the case of Iraq, the military mission was to topple a government led by Saddam Hussein, who was a dictator. The political (Neocon) mission was to achieve U.S.-friendly control of Iraq.

The difference between Japan and Iraq, historically, is all-to-obvious to the cautious student. Japan was comprised of people who had fervent fealty devoted to their leaders. Iraq was comprised of several factions of people that were suppressed by an iron-fisted dictatorship.

Japanese people were loyal to the wishes of their militarily crushed leaders. Iraqi people were freed to fight in a struggle for political power.

There is no lesson to be learned here. The lesson has been taught for many years: Homogeneous people, happily led, can be moved as a unit. Nonhomogeneous peoples, suddenly freed from dictatorial suppression, will fight amongst themselves to fill the power void with their own preferred factions.

(Teaching WD about historical absolutes is like teaching the alphabet, "A is for apple...")

As for the oft-stated and asinine comment "Is there a way to stop 2000 years of Religious War..??", it can be said of most peoples.

Limbaugh's dittoheads love this quote. They don't quote (or understand) the eras of multiple Popes, Martin Luther, American Indian genocide or discrimination against Irish immigrants.

That's the short list. The careful student of human history would add the "pagan" May Day usurped by Christianity (and Galileo and Copernicus and the Spanish Inquisition).

We have a vague understanding that Chinese history has similar internicine religious-belief battles that have been waged for eons. Confucius's teachings were accompanied by deaths, were they not?

To point to the Mideast and state, "Those folks are especially remarkable in that they kill and oppress each other in support of their various beliefs" is as goofy as saying, "Americans are good people who make love, not war."

We agree on one thing: Terroristic acts of murder are not preventable. The fact that terrorist's are not patriots of any single nation that can be counter-attacked, have no economy to crush and follow no leader available to kill or force into surrender is precisely what makes terrorism a viable strategy.

What does NOT make terrorism a viable strategy is that it possesses no follow-up plan. Terrorism can destroy but it cannot build.

The same is true for military action, for the elimination of human and legal rights and for the "Unitary Executive".

Wrecking stuff is easy. Building stuff is difficult.

Military action is quick and easy. A "Hearts and Minds" campaign is long-term and arduous and fragile. (Witness what the Neocons have done to global perceptions of U.S. goodwill. It required years to build and only one U.S. administration to crush.)

The difference between the two, death by destruction and life through aid, is the cost in lives and treasury and the eventual result.

Crank Bait said...

Let's see. Jimmy Carter.

Iranian students (acting alone, it seems thus far) seized embassy personnel and held them hostage.

The U.S. military failed in its attempt to free them, despite President Carter's faith in the ability of the military to do so.

The hostages were eventually freed.
------
There is much too much to discuss in this short-form blog forum regarding this episode. Ronald Reagan may or may not have prolonged the strife endured by the hostages. President Carter may or may not have missed opportunities to shorten the ordeal.

The salient point is that the military solution failed. The diplomatic solution succeeded.

It is exceedingly rare that an instance of kidnapping comes to a good end.

Bush vetoes troop withdrawal bill By ANNE FLAHERTY and JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writers
51 minutes ago

President Bush vetoed legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq Tuesday night in a historic showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.

In only the second veto of his presidency, Bush rejected legislation pushed by Democratic leaders that would require the first U.S. combat troops to be withdrawn from Iraq by Oct. 1 with a goal of a complete pullout six months later.

"This is a prescription for chaos and confusion and we must not impose it on our troops," Bush said in a nationally broadcast statement from the White House. He said the bill would "mandate a rigid and artificial deadline" for troop pullouts, and "it makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing."

Democrats made a last-minute plea for Bush to sign the bill, knowing their request would be ignored. "The president has put our troops in the middle of a civil war," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record). "Reality on the ground proves what we all know: A change of course is needed."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) said the legislation "respects the wishes of the American people to end the Iraq war."

Lacking the votes to override the president, Democratic leaders quietly considered what might be included or kept out of their next version of the $124 billion spending bill. Bush will meet with congressional leaders — Democrats and Republicans alike — on Wednesday to discuss a new bill.

Bush said Democrats had made a political statement by passing anti-war legislation. "They've sent their message, and now it's time to put politics behind us and support our troops with the funds," the president said.

He said the need to act is urgent because without a war-funding bill, the armed forces will have to consider cutting back on buying or repairing equipment.

"Our troops and their families deserve better, and their elected leaders can do better," Bush said.

"Whatever our differences, surely we can agree that our troops are worthy of this funding and that we have a responsibility to get it to them without further delay," the president said.

President Bush's unpopularity and a string of political setbacks have created a toxic climate for the Republican Party, making it harder to raise money and recruit candidates for its drive to retake control of Congress.

Some of the GOP's top choices to run for the House next year have declined, citing what Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) called a "poisonous" environment. And Republicans' fundraising edge, an important advantage over the last five years, has dwindled.

With GOP clout diminished after November's election losses, the Republicans' national committee and their House and Senate campaign committees together raised the same amount as the Democrats in the first quarter of the year - and Democrats ended the period with more cash in the bank. At this point four years ago, Republicans had more than twice the money Democrats did.

LOS ANGELES - Tom Poston, the tall, pasty-faced comic who found fame and fortune playing a clueless everyman on such hit television shows as “Newhart” and “Mork and Mindy,” has died. He was 85.

Poston, who was married to Suzanne Pleshette of “The Bob Newhart Show,” died Monday night at home after a brief illness, a family representative, Tanner Gibson, said Tuesday. The nature of his illness was not disclosed.

Bob Newhart remembered Poston as a “versatile and veteran performer and a kindhearted individual.”

“Tom was always the ‘go-to guy’ on ‘Newhart’ in addition to being a good and longtime friend,” Newhart said in a statement Tuesday.

Billy Crystal, who starred in the 1978 film “Rabbit Test” in which Poston also appeared, was another admirer.

“How rare that a gentle, sweet person could be so incredibly funny,” Crystal said in a statement. “I grew up watching Tom on ‘The Steve Allen Show’ as a kid. What an incredible gift to become friends with him and to learn about comedy from a true professional. He was a combination of Stan Laurel and Jack Benny. We will all miss him.”

Poston’s run as a comic bumbler began in the mid-1950s with “The Steve Allen Show” after Allen plucked the character actor from the Broadway stage to join an ensemble of eccentrics he would conduct “man in the street” interviews with.

Don Knotts was the shaky Mr. Morrison, Louis Nye was the suave, overconfident Gordon Hathaway and Poston’s character was so unnerved by the television cameras that he couldn’t remember who he was. He won an Emmy playing “The Man Who Can’t Remember His Name.”

But when Allen moved the show from New York to Los Angeles in 1959, Poston stayed behind.

“Hollywood’s not for me right now; I’m a Broadway cat,” he told a reporter at the time.

When he did finally move west, he quickly began appearing in variety shows, sitcoms and films.

His movie credits included “Cold Turkey,” “The Happy Hooker,” “Rabbit Test” and, more recently, “Christmas With the Kranks,” “Beethoven’s 5th” and “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.”

On “Mork and Mindy,” which starred Robin Williams as a space alien, Poston was Franklin Delano Bickley, the mindless boozer with the annoying dog. On “Newhart,” he was George Utley, the handyman who couldn’t fix anything at the New England inn run by Newhart’s character. And on Newhart’s show “Bob,” he was the star’s dim-bulb former college roommate.

“These guys are about a half-step behind life’s parade,” Poston commented in a 1983 interview. “The ink on their instruction sheets is beginning to fade. But they can function and cope and don’t realize they are driving people up the walls.

“In ways I don’t like to admit, I’m a goof-up myself,” Poston continued. “It’s an essential part of my character. When these guys screw up it reminds me of my own incompetence with the small frustrations of life.”

From Broadway to Bob Newhart
Goof-up or not, Poston was a versatile actor who made his Broadway debut in 1947 playing five roles in Jose Ferrer’s “Cyrano de Bergerac.”

One role called for him to engage in a duel, fall 10 feet, roll across the stage and vanish into the orchestra pit. Other actors had auditioned and failed but Poston, who in his youth had been an acrobat with the Flying Zepleys, did the stunt perfectly.

He went on to play secondary roles in Broadway comedies and starred at regional theaters in such shows as “Romanoff and Juliet” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” For 10 years he was also a panelist on the popular TV quiz show “To Tell the Truth.”

He made guest appearances on scores of television shows, including “Studio One,” “The Phil Silvers Show,” “The Defenders,” “Get Smart,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “The Love Boat,” “St. Elsewhere,” “The Simpsons,” “Coach,” “Murphy Brown,” “Home Improvement,” “Touched by an Angel,” “Will & Grace,” “Dream On,” “Just Shoot Me!” and “That ’70s Show.”

Poston and his first wife, Jean Sullivan, had a daughter, Francesca, before their marriage ended in divorce. He married his second wife, Kay Hudson, after they met while appearing in the St. Louis Light Opera, and they had a son, Jason, and daughter, Hudson.

Poston and Pleshette, who had appeared together in the 1959 Broadway play “The Golden Fleecing,” had had a brief fling before marrying other people. Both now widowed, they reunited in 2000 and married the following year.

Their paths had crossed on “The Bob Newhart Show” in the 1970s. Poston made several guest appearances on the sitcom in which Pleshette played Newhart’s wife.

In 2006, Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer that her agent said was caught at an early stage.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 17, 1921, Thomas Poston moved from city to city as a child as his father hunted for work during the Depression. As a teenager, he made money as a boxer.

Following two years at Bethany College he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and flew troops to the European war zone during World War II.

Hunting for a postwar occupation, Poston read an interview with Charles Jehlinger, creative head of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and was inspired to sign up for a two-year course at the Academy.

Besides Pleshette, Poston is survived by his children, Francesca Hudson and Jason Poston.

A private service was planned for immediate family. Details of a public memorial service were to be announced later.

Pelosi calls out Bush for 1999 statement on timetable. Reacting to President Bush’s veto of the Iraq supplemental bill, Speaker Nancy Pelosi noted this evening that Bush once believed it was important for a president to lay out a timetable:

The president wants a blank check. The Congress is not going to give it to him. The president said, in his comments, he did not believe in timelines, and he spoke out very forcefully against them. Yet in 1999, on June 5th, then-Governor Bush said, about President Clinton, “I think it’s important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they would be withdrawn.” Despite his past statements, President Bush refuses to apply the same standard to his own activities. Standards — that’s the issue.

If the president thinks that what is happening on the ground in Iraq now is progress, as he said in his comments tonight, then it’s clear to see why we have a disagreement on policy with him. I agree with Leader Reid. We look forward to working with the president to find common ground, but there is great distance between us right now.

Iraq Generals to President: You've Failed Us

05.01.2007
Washington, DC

Today, two retired Generals who led troops in Iraq expressed outrage at the President's veto of the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans' Health, and Iraq Accountability Act.

The President vetoed our troops and the American people. His stubborn commitment to a failed strategy in Iraq is incomprehensible. He committed our great military to a failed strategy in violation of basic principles of war. His failure to mobilize the nation to defeat world wide Islamic extremism is tragic. We deserve more from our commander-in-chief and his administration.
--Maj. Gen. John Batiste, USA, Ret.

This administration and the previously Republican controlled legislature have been the most caustic agents against America's Armed Forces in memory. Less than a year ago, the Republicans imposed great hardship on the Army and Marine Corps by their failure to pass a necessary funding language. This time, the President of the United States is holding our Soldiers hostage to his ego. More than ever apparent, only the Army and the Marine Corps are at war - alone, without their President's support.
--Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, USA, Ret.

Clinton to attend N.H. debate after all

MANCHESTER, N.H. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has agreed to attend New Hampshire's first presidential debate, leaving Senator Barack Obama as the only Democratic candidate not yet on the stage.

Clinton and Obama previously said they would participate only in six debates sanctioned by the Democratic National Committee, the first of which is scheduled for July. But Clinton's campaign said today she will attend the June 3rd debate sponsored by WMUR-TV, the New Hampshire Union Leader and C-N-N.

Clinton and Obama already participated in an unsanctioned debate last week in South Carolina that was scheduled before the D-N-C got involved

Another bad Mission Accomplished explanation. War Room’s Tim Grieve notes that White House spokeswoman Dana Perino emphasized today that President Bush never used the words “Mission Accomplished” — but then argued “we did prevail.”

PERINO: Let me just remind everybody, in case you need it, that speech there, I encourage people to read it. The president never said ‘mission accomplished.’ I realize that the banner said ‘mission accomplished.’ That was specific to the mission of that ship. They were supposed to be deployed for six months. They were deployed well beyond that. […]

Q: He did say: “In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.”

PERINO: We did prevail, in terms of toppling the Iraqi army and Saddam Hussein. And several months later, 12 million Iraqis voted for a new government and a constitution. And things looked very promising.

UPDATE: Dan Froomkin reminds us: “About a month after his appearance on the flight deck, Bush traveled to Qatar, where he told troops: ‘America sent you on a mission to remove a grave threat and to liberate an oppressed people, and that mission has been accomplished.’”

ABC News: Where are war architects now, four years after 'Mission Accomplished?' David Edwards and Mike Sheehan
Published: Tuesday May 1, 2007

Today marks four years since President Bush announced "Mission Accomplished" on an aircraft carrier, proclaiming an end to major combat operations in Iraq. Yet the war continues and "the majority of Americans say we are on the wrong path," as ABC's Diane Sawyer remarks on Good Morning America.

"How naive that ['Mission Accomplished'] banner looks four years later," adds ABC News senior national correspondent Claire Shipman, "and that is being charitable."

She continues, "It is striking when you look at it, how circumstances have changed for all of the president's men behind the war effort" as she recalls the moment aboard the carrier as a "moment of Bushian bravado that this administration will never live down."

Four years later, Shipman describes the mission as "a disaster, and the once indestructible architects in profound disarray" as she recounts events surrounding such former Bush administration officials as Paul Wolfowitz, George Tenet, Karl Rove and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Giuliani tie to lobbying firm that sought rollback of Clean Air Act could rankle 2008 bid RAW STORY
Published: Tuesday May 1, 2007

"For a native New Yorker mounting a first bid for national office, Rudolph Giuliani has shown an impressive ability to raise money in Texas, where his Republican presidential campaign collected $2.1 million, far more than any other candidate, during the first quarter of the year," writes Russ Buettner for the front page of Tuesday's NEW YORK TIMES, RAW STORY has learned. Excerpts:

"Central to this success has been his affiliation with a well-established and politically connected law firm that is based in Houston and bears his name: Bracewell & Giuliani.

"But the affiliation could pose some political risks for Giuliani, as the firm bearing his name is perhaps the nation's most aggressive lobbyist for coal-fired power plants, whose emissions are seen as major contributors to global warming.

"The firm has also been credited with convincing the Bush administration to roll back key provisions of the Clean Air Act.

Pelosi and the Democrats: PUT UP OR SHUT UP!

The voters have spoken! They are tired of the foolish and brutal war and occupation of Iraq. They are tired of stripping away our basic civil liberties in the name of the so-called war on terror. They are tired of the far-right agenda which has been the hallmark of the Bush administration and the Republican-controlled Congress. The voters have demanded change. It is time for the Democrats to deliver change or end any pretense of being anything but what they truly are: jackasses promoting a pro-war, anti-worker agenda while at the same time pretending to be something else.

House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi has already said that the Democrats will "rule from the middle." But the politics advanced by the two parties of capital and war have moved so far to the right that "the middle" resembles what would have been mainstream Republicanism a mere 10 years ago.

Progressives, workers, supporters of a rationale foreign policy who voted Democratic in the hope of bringing about change must now insist that the Democratic majority in Congress pass real change. But the sad fact is that on the crucial issues which face our country there is no significant difference between the Democrats and Republicans, and the next two years of a Democratic-controlled Congress will demonstrate that reality.

Some pressure can be brought to bear on the Democrats in order to convince them that change is necessary if they are to retain their new majority. Voters in California can contribute to that pressure by registering to vote with the Peace and Freedom Party. As long as progressives remain in the Democratic Party, they will be taken for granted and their issues will not be addressed by the Democratic leadership. Demonstrate your commitment to change by registering in the only party on the California ballot which stands for fundamental change: a change not in the types of corporations which control us, but an end to corporate control and its replacement with working class control of our economy and society.

That makes me feel me feel less stupid ...thanks Flora... I really really really really wish I knew how to resolve the issue of a crappy government..."Kill Them!"....just doesn't cut it... & I don't know how to make another party viable..besides cash, which is what the people who really might want a third party do not have...anyways...that was nice of you, thanks..

...operating a machine without any clue as to where operating a machine would evolve.
---
I have had enough of this bullshit. Here is the real story.

War Dog was operating printing machinery whilst Mark Martin was racing crappy cars out of his dad's trucking shop in Batesville, Arkansas. Mark Martin is now a millionaire who could buy War Dog seventy-times over.

War Dog was operating printing machinery whilst my good friend (name deleted in the interest of privacy) was using his Art History degree to become a multi-millionaire in Arkansas.

War Dog was operating printing machinery whilst my former girlfriend tramped aimlessly around Europe, eventually obtaining a phD that won her a position in a major league city museum.

War Dog was operating printing machinery whilst my brother was having a good time doing lots of different stuff, eventually having more money than god in a location that is a lot warmer than K.C.

War Dog was operating printing machinery whilst I was doing whatever I pleased, eventually finding myself in the Caribbean where millionaires clamoured for my historical reconstruction attention.

Meanwhile, I have friends who worked in factories, tried their hands at businesses, stayed close to home and never got a break.

What is the difference between honest and hard-working people who make it and people who don't? Nothing but luck.

Let us take a twenty-year-old and examine his options. He might find himself in, say, a print-shop environment. He might stay there. If he is not a bloomin' idiot, thirty years hence, he should have something to show for it, right?

Let us take another twenty-year-old and examine his options. He might find himself traveling, doing this and that, making-do and then having tons of money. Not bad, wouldn't you agree?

How about Mark Martin? He was a race-car goof. Not much promise in that, right? Only an idiot would expect riches from banging fenders.

All of this to say that the War Dog claim of "planning" and "making choices" is horse shit. You are dealt your cards and you takes your chances.

None of the successful examples cited above would claim to have been geniuses who knew that they were making the right choices.

And yet, War Dog knew.

Let me tell you this. If, knowing all that I know and having done all that I have done, I was given a second chance, would I be a printing machine operator?

Not on your fucking life.

Fergie Pees In Pants On Stage

Fergie, of the Black Eyed Pees, had an accident on stage. Apparently she is a former, or still is, a meth addict. She also likes to drink; perhaps too much.
-----------------------------------
Excerpt:

anyone who was at the San Diego Street Scene show, you may have noticed that the Stripes took the stage very late, due to the fact that the Black Eyed Peas, who played right before the Stripes, showed up for their set almost a full hour late. Total disrespect, since every other band managed to make their show time on the dot."

"The reason why the Black Eyed Peas took the stage so late is because they claim to have been "stuck in traffic" and that security wouldn't let them in. Anyway, after they took the stage, it was very clear that they were all very hammered."

"So hammered, in fact, that Fergie decided to piss RIGHT ON THE STAGE. No joke.

---My Expectation Of A War Dog Response---

WD: "They were hard-working capitalists."

Bait: "No, they were not. They were honest folks who were trying to have a good time and make their rent."

WD: "But they got rich, right?"

Bait: "Yep. But none of them are fool enough to claim that they had a plan, executed it, and won."

WD: "Well...I did."

Bait: "If so, why ain't you as rich as those who bungled around and had a good time until success slapped them in the face?"

WD: "Some people are just lucky."

Bait: "Bingo!"

Luck is what happens when Preparation meets Opportunity..

My plan is set up in 10 year segments..

This segment is to run until 2009..

Then the next 10 segment starts..

I am only planning until I am 90..

After that my plan is just to wake up each day..

This segment has been semi-retirement..

Next is full retirement and full-time travel..

10 years after that I buy a new house in a new state and travel part time again..

I have been working on the Alaska and Mexico trips for some time..

That is why Alice's Revolution in Mexico pisses me off..

Don't those guys know I plan to drive down there don't want any complications..???

By the way...and not to bang my own drum because, who cares?...a few days ago War Dog was executing one of his usual spams about "planning" whilst I was tracking the market and flicking to and fro from streaming market quotes to the blog. I locked-in $465 while WD ranted about how Sam's bloggers' were wasting their time on their computers when they should be executing their plans.

The gain wasn't remarkable. It was the timing and the irony that was exquisite.
