Al-Qaeda's No. 2: Iraq Bill Shows U.S. Defeat

Ayman al-Zawahiri (right) with Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan in 2001

(epa)
May 6, 2007 -- In a video, Al-Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahiri says a U.S. congressional bill calling for a troop withdrawal from Iraq is proof of Washington's defeat.

U.S. President George W. Bush has vetoed the bill, which would have required a troop pullout from Iraq to begin this year.

Osama bin Laden's top lieutenant in the terrorist network Al-Qaeda, al-Zawahiri said that he hoped U.S. forces would stay in Iraq long enough to be dealt a catastrophic blow.

Ayman al-Zawahiri made the comment in a video aired on May 5, four days after Bush vetoed the $124 billion congressional war-spending measure that would have required a troop pullout from Iraq to begin by October 1.

In the video, al-Zawahiri reacts to the legislation passed by the U.S. Congress in late April.

"This bill reflects American failure and frustration," he said. "However, this bill will deprive us of the opportunity to destroy the American forces which we have caught in a historic trap. We ask Allah that they only get out if it after losing 200,000 to 300,000 killed, in order that we give those who spill blood in Washington and Europe an unforgettable lesson which will motivate them to review their entire doctrinal and moral system which produced their historic criminal crusader-Zionist entity."
More than 3,000 U.S. service personnel have been killed in action in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Two Al Qaeda Leaders Killed in Iraq

Coalition forces identified bodies of two al Qaeda leaders, killed three additional terrorists and nabbed 39 others during operations across Iraq recently, military officials said.

Coalition forces positively identified two more senior al Qaeda in Iraq leaders killed in the May 1 operation west of Taji that left Muharib Abdul Latif dead. One of the terrorists killed during the operation was positively identified as Sabah Hilal al-Shihawi, who reportedly was Latif's religious advisor.

Another terrorist killed during the raid was Abu Ammar al-Masri. Intelligence reports indicate that he was a foreign fighter facilitating insurgent activity and infrastructure support for al Qaeda in Iraq.

Both terrorists were positively identified by associates at the site. In addition, Shihawi's identity was positively verified in a photograph.

"We will not wait for these terrorists to strike; we will seek them out," said Army Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesman. "This is what al Qaeda in Iraq members can expect when they target the Iraqi people and security forces that protect them."

Democrats' Momentum Is Stalling
Amid Iraq Debate, Priorities On Domestic Agenda Languish

By Jonathan Weisman and Lyndsey Layton
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, May 5, 2007; A01

In the heady opening weeks of the 110th Congress, the Democrats' domestic agenda appeared to be flying through the Capitol: Homeland security upgrades, a higher minimum wage and student loan interest rate cuts all passed with overwhelming bipartisan support.

But now that initial progress has foundered as Washington policymakers have been consumed with the debate over the Iraq war. Not a single priority on the Democrats' agenda has been enacted, and some in the party are growing nervous that the "do nothing" tag they slapped on Republicans last year could come back to haunt them.

"We cannot be a one-trick pony," said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), who helped engineer his party's takeover of Congress as head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "People voted for change, but Iraq, the economy and Washington, D.C., [corruption] all tied for first place. We need to do them all."

The "Six for '06" policy agenda on which Democrats campaigned last year was supposed to consist of low-hanging fruit, plucked and put in the basket to allow Congress to move on to tougher targets. House Democrats took just 10 days to pass a minimum-wage increase, a bill to implement most of the homeland security recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission, a measure allowing federal funding for stem cell research, another to cut student-loan rates, a bill allowing the federal government to negotiate drug prices under Medicare, and a rollback of tax breaks for oil and gas companies to finance alternative-energy research.

WAR DOG IS A LYING SACK OF SHIT!

But then, everyone knows that already.

After Cheney blasted the face of his attorney friend, I stated that it is AN UNFORGETTABLE EVENT and that it WILL NEVER GO AWAY NOR BE FORGOTTEN. I stated that it is joke cast in stone, permanently hanging from Cheney's neck. I stated that it is an important contribution to the growing public perception that he is the madman behind the policy decisions.

I stated that it would be among the statements in even the shortest versions of Cheney's obituary.

War Dog stated that it was a meaningless event and would be forgotten in two weeks.

Every collection of pundit comments listing the reasons for Cheney's unfavorable ratings includes the attorney-blasting event because it speaks to incompetence and irresponsibility.

War Dog is a liar. If he wants to jack himself off all day, every day, on this blog without my interference, he will do it without misrepresenting me and my statements.

We learned some things during the Republican Presidential debate, mostly that Republicans haven't changed in 30 years.

First, we learned they still deify one of the worst presidents in American history, Ronald Reagan, the man who empowered the Republican looting of America. And their economic vision is to create a two-class society - the ultra rich and those that serve them.

Second, we learned Republicans still refuse to accept responsibility of their actions. They still blame Bill Clinton for every illegal or un-American act they have committed since Bush 41 took office.

Third, we learned these Republicans still believe that might makes right and violence, or the threat there of, is the only basis for American foreign policy.

Fourth, we learned the Republican candidates for the most are rude, vile, arrogant clowns. These people attack and revile before they can every think of engaging their brain.

Like I said, we learned that Republican presidential candidates haven't changed in over a generation. The American people still can't trust them. We learned the Republican Party is still the greatest threat to the United States of America has ever faced.

the fact that it's only appreciated by a few peeps that look past the labels only reinforces my need to be more effective.

IMO those people are wayyyyy more corporate greedhead assholes than "republicans". i think getting someone like you down on mostly "issue clueless" repubs is why they use the label.

look at what people do and ignore the labels is my advice if you really want to make a difference and get some insight into what's happening under all the "label" BS.

Which one of these “leaders” actually thinks he can handle a leadership position? Now is the time for these candidates to tell voters what they believe in, where they stand, what they’ll do. Instead we get a ballet troupe dancing delicately in unison, frantically trying not to step on any land mines (i.e. stray from their script or possibly offend somebody). Pathetic.

Ready, all together now: “The war in Iraq has been terribly mismanaged, but U.S. troops should not be withdrawn.” “Whew! Did we get it right?” They memorized their lines competently. Maybe they’re qualified to be extras in a movie, but President of the United States??

There was a scene from Monty Python’s “Life of Brian” where Brian/Jesus was talking to a crowd of his devotees. He called out to them “you are all individuals.” And they responded in unison: “Yes, we are all individuals.”

These candidates are in a tough position. If they stay loyal to President Failure, they’ll alienate 70 plus percent of the voters. If they try to distance themselves from the sinking ship, they’ll piss off that coalition of robber barons and Salem Witch-hunters who control the Republican Party.

What to do? Damned if they do and damned if they don’t. But they can’t keep up this synchronized swimming charade forever.

The first of the Great Cheney Downfall debate...

=========================================================================================================

More than a few people, notably Wil, are not happy with the distraction that is the Cheney/shotgunning story.

It is true that, in the grand scheme of issues, it is frivolous. It is exactly as frivolous as a blow job and the subsequent lie under oath.

However, the blow job story certainly crippled the presidency and may have had far-reaching effects, possibly including reducing the number of votes for Al Gore...something that could hardly be called minor.

There are other similarities between the events. The act itself loses importance in the wake of subsequent actions.

Among many curious actions subsequent to the shooting, the usual protocol for law enforcement was altered in deference to Cheney.

As Leno pointed out by asking his band leader, a black man named Kevin, "Hey Kev, when someone in your building in the 'hood shoots somebody and the cops show up, do you tell them to come back in the morning?"

I am sorry that our popular opinion can turn on something as stupid and inconsequential as a blow job or a hunting accident, but it can and sometimes does.

If nothing else, it won't move fence-sitters over to the Republican fan club. It is possible that greater ramifications are waiting around the corner.

So to those who find it idiocy, it is. If it helps to cause some voters to take a second look at the secrecy and royalty-like attitude of the current administration and its party, I won't be looking a gift horse in the mouth.

The propagandists who poo-poo the incident as a blip on the screen are either naive as to how quickly these stories can turn ugly or are merely spreading propaganda while they nervously wipe the flop-sweat from their brows.

Sarkozy elected French president
Sun May 6, 2007 2:15 PM ET

By Crispian Balmer

PARIS (Reuters) - Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy won France's presidential election on Sunday, beating his Socialist rival Segolene Royal by a comfortable margin and extending the right's 12-year grip on power.

Within minutes of polls closing, Royal conceded defeat in a speech to party faithful in the heart of Paris.

"I hope that the next president of the republic fulfils his role in the service of all French people," she said.

Forecasts by four pollsters showed Sarkozy, 52, a hard-line former interior minister, won around 53 percent of the vote in the second-round ballot and will succeed fellow conservative Jacques Chirac, who was president for 12 years.

Turnout was predicted at about 85 percent.

Sarkozy's face flashed up on television screens after polling stations closed at 8 p.m. (1800 GMT), signaling his victory and setting off jubilant scenes among supporters gathered in central Paris.

Across the city at Socialist headquarters there was gloom and sorrow after the party crashed to its third consecutive presidential election defeat. It now faces the prospect of tough internal reform to make itself more appealing to voters.

Although opinion polls regularly suggested voters preferred Royal, who was seeking to become France's first woman head of state, they saw the uncompromising Sarkozy as a more competent leader with a more convincing economic program.

Sarkozy, the son of a Hungarian immigrant, presented himself as the "candidate of work", promising to loosen the 35-hour work week by offering tax breaks on overtime and to trim fat from the public service, cut taxes and wage war on unemployment.

He is expected to take office on May 16 or 17, and will be the first French president to be born after World War Two.

He will then name a new government and immediately launch into campaigning for June's parliamentary election, where he will seek a clear majority to implement his reform plans.

The president is elected for five years, is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, nominates the prime minister, has the right to dissolve the National Assembly and is responsible for foreign and defense policies.

Conservative Sarkozy to be France's next president

Sun May 6, 2007 4:23 PM EDT

By Crispian Balmer
PARIS (Reuters) - Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy triumphed in France's presidential election on Sunday, sweeping aside his Socialist rival Segolene Royal on the back of a huge turnout that gave him a strong mandate for reform.

Tens of thousands of supporters flooded into central Paris to celebrate the victory which extended the right's 12-year grip on power in France, but also marked the start of a new era Sarkopzy replaces 74-year-old President Jacques Chirac.

Addressing cheering party faithful, a calm, restrained Sarkozy pledged to represent the entire nation and heal the divisions of a particularly bitter election campaign.

"To all those French who did not vote for me, I want to say that beyond political battles, beyond differences of opinion, for me there is only one France," he said.

With more than three quarters of ballots counted, Sarkozy had won 53.4 percent of the vote against 46.6 percent for Royal. Turnout was some 85 percent -- the highest since 1981.

Sarkozy, the son of a Hungarian immigrant, presented himself as the "candidate of work," promising to loosen the 35-hour work week by offering tax breaks on overtime and to trim fat from the public service, cut taxes and wage war on unemployment.

Gingrich To Conservatives: Don’t Talk About Iraq, Katrina, Walter Reed, Attorneys, Or Bush »
This morning on CBS’s Face the Nation, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich advised fellow conservatives not to talk about President Bush’s record. “President Bush is not the future. He’s not a solution. He doesn’t solve Social Security. He doesn’t solve Medicare. He doesn’t solve the economy. He doesn’t solve the environment. He doesn’t solve education. He’s a current fact,” Gingrich said.

It’s also a “current fact” that the conservative agenda has failed to “solve” these important issues over the past six years.

Gingrich went on to say that conservatives “have to say, this is not what we want to debate. It’s not in Baghdad, it’s not in Katrina, it’s not at Walter Reed, it’s not with the U.S. attorneys, but I have a better plan for a better solution that fits your values.” When Host Bob Schieffer suggested that Gingrich seemed to advocating steering clear of President Bush, Gingrich responded, “Well, I think that’s clear.”

Replacement U.S. Attorney chased ‘voter fraud.’ The Boston Globe’s recent Pulitzer Prize-winner Charles Savage writes up an important new front in the U.S. Attorney scandal:

Todd Graves brought just four misdemeanor voter fraud indictments during his five years as the US attorney for western Missouri — even though some of his fellow Republicans in the closely divided state wanted stricter oversight of Democratic efforts to sign up new voters.

Then, in March 2006, Graves was replaced by a new US attorney — one who had no prosecutorial experience and bypassed Senate confirmation. Bradley Schlozman moved aggressively where Graves had not, announcing felony indictments of four workers for a liberal activist group on voter registration fraud charges less than a week before the 2006 election.

Republicans, who had been pushing for restrictive new voting laws, applauded. But critics said Schlozman violated a department policy to wait until after an election to bring voter fraud indictments if the case could affect the outcome, either by becoming a campaign issue or by scaring legitimate voters into staying home.

Muckraker has more coverage of Schlozman

If this is true, the level of incompetence in all parts of this government is astounding!!!

Doolittle: FBI took my wife’s iPod. Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) today accused the FBI of conducting an improper search on his house and leaking information about it to coincide with the scandal surrounding Attorney General Alberto Gonzales:

“I now believe that the search of our home was in large measure an attempt to strong arm my wife in order to get me to admit to a crime — a crime that I did not commit,” Doolittle wrote. …

Doolittle complained that during the search Julie, who was home alone, “was sequestered in the kitchen and not allowed to move without an escort. She was not even allowed to use the bathroom in our own home without an FBI agent escorting her there.”

He claimed that agents seized personal items such as his wife’s Ipod — but left behind an accordion file with information about work Julie Doolittle had done for Abramoff.

You also play Hillary as if she was one of the neocons in Bush's War Plans.

GOP Concerns About Bush's War Policy

- - - - - - - - - - - -

By LIBBY QUAID Associated Press Writer

May 06,2007 | WASHINGTON -- The House Republican leader said Sunday that GOP support could waver if President Bush's Iraq war policy does not succeed by the fall. A top Democrat said it would be "ridiculous" to stop insisting on linking new war money and a troop withdrawal.

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Bush's troop increase deserves a shot.

"We don't even have all of the 30,000 additional troops in Iraq yet, so we're supporting the president. We want this plan to have a chance of succeeding," he said.

"Over the course of the next three to four months, we'll have some idea how well the plan's working. Early signs are indicating there is clearly some success on a number of fronts," he said.

But, he added, "By the time we get to September or October, members are going to want to know how well this is working, and if it isn't, what's Plan B?"

Thus far, Republicans have stood behind the president's increasingly unpopular war policies, including the troop increase and an open-ended war commitment.

Yet Boehner's comments were an acknowledgment of the concern expressed by some lawmakers in private that their support could further damage the party, which lost control of Congress in the November elections.

The new Democratic leadership is pushing to begin pulling troops out of Iraq. Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, a Democratic presidential candidate, said congressional Republicans increasingly seem uneasy about Bush's policies.

"So we may disagree politically here, but remember where the American public is on this issue: They want a change. They think we're getting less secure, far more vulnerable today, than ever before, and they want a change in this policy," he said.

Last week, Bush vetoed a $124 billion bill to provided money for Iraq and Afghanistan operations in part because it required troops to begin returning home by Oct. 1, saying the fixed date is unworkable.

Top White House aides are negotiating with Democratic leaders on a new war spending bill.

"It would be ridiculous to think that we're going to just drop this fight," said Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. "This is not our fight. This is the American people's fight. They asked us to send a message to the president."

"We've got to shake that White House until the people of the United States are heard," Rangel said. "Sure, we've got to have some restrictions on the money."

Another Democratic presidential candidate, former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, argued against negotiating and said lawmakers should keep sending Bush the same Iraq spending bill.

"I think that America has asked the Democratic leadership in the Congress to stand firm, and that's exactly what I'm saying they should do," he said.

Edwards started airing a television commercial last week urging Congress to stand up to Bush and keep sending back the vetoed bill, which sparked a quarrel with Dodd.

"With all due respect, we could have used John's vote here in the Senate on these issues here," Dodd said.

Dodd and Boehner appeared on "Fox News Sunday," while Edwards was on "This Week" on ABC. Rangel spoke on "Face the Nation" on CBS.

Rahm responds to new GOP timetable for Iraq victory
by John Aravosis (DC) · 5/06/2007 05:46:00 PM ET

As you'll recall, we wrote earlier about how the Republican leader of the US House has now established a timetable for victory in Iraq. He said this morning on FOX News that Bush has until the fall to show progress, and if he hasn't then Republicans will start to walk. That's a timetable. Cong. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) responds:
Emanuel Statement in Response to New Boehner Timetable for Iraq

This morning in an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Congressman John Boehner announced his plan for a new timetable for Iraq, saying that support for the war from Congressional Republicans will waver if President Bush's escalation policy has not succeeded by the fall.

Statement of House Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel in response to Congressman John Boehner's newly announced timetable on Iraq and President Bush's escalation of troops into Iraq:

"It's clear Congressman Boehner's new timetable for Iraq has less to do with the troops coming home, and has everything to do with his fear that House Republicans will be sent home."

Bombs kill 8 U.S. troops in Iraq By ROBERT H. REID, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 56 minutes ago

BAGHDAD - Roadside bombs killed eight American soldiers in separate attacks Sunday in Diyala province and Baghdad, and a car bomb claimed 30 more lives in a wholesale food market in a part of the Iraqi capital where sectarian tensions are on the rise.

In all, at least 95 Iraqis were killed or found dead nationwide Sunday, police reported. They included 12 policemen in Samarra, among them the city's police chief, who died when Sunni insurgents launched a suicide car bombing and other attacks on police headquarters.

The deadliest attack against U.S. forces occurred in Diyala, where six U.S. soldiers and a European journalist were killed when a massive bomb destroyed their vehicle, the U.S. military said. Two U.S. soldiers were wounded, the military said.

The Real scandal at the World Bank

The Bank is killing thousands of the poorest people in the world
Published: 26 April 2007

While the world's press has been fixated on the teeny-weeny scandal over whether the World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz helped to get his girlfriend a $300,000-a-year gig next door, they have been ignoring the rancid stench of a far bigger scandal wafting from Wolfie's Washington offices.

This slo-mo scandal isn't about apparent petty corruption in DC. It's about how Wolfowitz's World Bank is killing thousands of the poorest people in the world, and knowingly worsening our worst crisis - global warming - every day.

Let's start with the victims. Meet Hawa Amadu, 70-something, living in the muddy slums of Accra, the capital of Ghana, and trying to raise her grandkids as best she can. Hawa has a problem - a massive problem - and the World Bank put it there. She can't afford water or electricity any more. Why? The World Bank threatened to refuse to lend any more money to her government, which would effectively make it a leper to governmental donors and international business, unless it stopped subsidising the cost of these necessities. The subsidies stopped. The cost doubled. Now Hawa goes thirsty so her grandchildren can drink, and weeps: "Am I supposed to drink air?"

Sarkozy wins French presidency By ANGELA DOLAND, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 55 minutes ago

Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy won the French presidency by a comfortable margin Sunday and immediately signalled his victory would mean friendly relations with the United States.

His socialist opponent, Segolene Royal, conceded defeat for her hopes of becoming France's first woman president. With nearly 70 percent of ballots counted, Sarkozy had just over 53 percent of the vote, according to the Interior Ministry.

Washington can "count on our friendship," Sarkozy told hundreds of cheering supporters, though he added that "friendship means accepting that friends can have different opinions."

President Bush swiftly phoned the new president-elect to offer congratulations.

"The United States and France are historic allies and partners. President Bush looks forward to working with President-elect Sarkozy as we continue our strong alliance," said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House National Security Council.

Largely untested on the global stage, Sarkozy delved into foreign policy in his first speech as president-elect, urging the United States to take the lead on climate change and saying the issue would be a priority for France.

"The people of France have chosen change," Sarkozy said, while pledging to be "president of all the French."

Voter turnout was projected at 85 percent — a level not seen in 40 years — thanks to the dynamism of both candidates and the high stakes for a nation losing global clout to neighbors Britain and German and even developing countries like China and India.

"I gave it all my efforts, and will continue," Royal told supporters as she conceded defeat. "Something has risen up that will not stop."

Sarkozy — a charismatic but divisive figure known for uncompromising, even brutal language — inherits from Jacques Chirac stagnant wages, a lagging economy and frustration in impoverished, immigrant-heavy suburbs.

Speaking of Mitt, I have yet to see any of the Very Serious People address the fact that he's frighteningly (to him anyway) unpopular. I don't think I've ever seen a national matchup between pairs where a named Democrat beat a named Republican by 37 points. And that's just Edwards. Obama beats him by 29 points, and Clinton by 22 points. He's dipping into Dick Cheney territory and losing even some of the die hard lizard brains.

Rush Limbaugh told the Right to stop criticizing Keith Olbermann
By: John Amato @ 1:32 PM - PDT

Before it was known that Rudy Giuliani's camp complained to NBC because Keith was critical of Giuliani in an earlier MSNBC broadcast, I learned that Rush Limbaugh was taking an active role in trying to dampen the right from publicly criticizing Keith Olbermann. Rush is afraid that the more they pay attention to Keith, the more they'll increase his audience and Keith will become a much stronger voice to the public. Olbermann's Countdown is now the #1 show on MSNBC (he beat O'Reilly in the key demographic of 25-54 year olds) and his popularity is of great concern to the right wing movement that has had a monopoly on talk radio and cable news for many years now.

A Republican insider told me that during Brent Bozell's Media Research Center's 20th Anniversary Gala event, Keith Olbermann was nominated for three of the top five Dishonors awards, but at Rush Limbaugh's urging, (who is a judge for the awards) Olbermann did not win a single award. This insider also told me that every time Olbermann's name was mentioned at the event, he got the loudest round of boos from all attendees, yet he still didn't win an award.

I've contacted the MRC for comment…Still developing…

You gonna take over power with a Subpoena...????

hahahahahahahahaha...

How does that work exactly...???

-------------------------------------------------------

Our Democratic members have subpoena power. We were elected to end the corruption and the illegal war in Iraq.

The Republicans were able to sustain the Veto in the House.

-------------------------------------------------

"WASHINGTON - Congress failed to override
President Bush's veto of legislation requiring the withdrawal of U.S. troops from
Iraq on Wednesday, a defeat for anti-war Democrats that triggered immediate talks on a new measure to fund the conflict.

The House vote was 222-203, 62 shy of the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto. With few exceptions, Republicans stood fast with Bush in the wartime clash. The original vote on the bill was 218-208.

"Make no mistake, Democrats are committed to ending this war," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif, said on a day of carefully scripted political drama at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. "We hope to do so in unison with the president of the United States."

At the same time, Republicans who have helped Bush sustain his policy quickly signaled a new impatience with a war that has claimed the lives of more than 3,300 U.S. troops."

Colorado Elections Employee Caught Selling Voter Data To GOP Candidates
By: Nicole Belle @ 12:37 PM - PDT This is just begging for an independent investigation from the US Attorney's office…oh, wait….

ePluribus Media:

(A) technology manager in the Elections Division of Colorado's Secretary of State's office was selling Colorado voter data to GOP candidates.

Daniel J. Kopelman of Aurora, CO, whose duties include oversight and maintenance of the state's master voter registration database, was offering "GOP campaign help" in the form of voter and "fresh" fundraising lists at the web site of his privately-owned company Political Live Wires.

In response to ePluribus Media's inquiries, a spokesperson for Sec. of State Mike Coffman stated that his office had no knowledge of Kopelman's "side business" and saw his actions as a "conflict of interest." Furthermore, upon learning of Kopelman's activities, Deputy Sec. of State William A. Hobbs met with the state's voter database manager and directed him to take down his web site.

But Coffman's claims that he was unaware of Kopelman's private venture are now in doubt, as the newly elected Secretary's campaign expenditure reports from last fall — filed with his own office — show multiple expenditures to Political Live Wires and Kopelman for services including "consulting."

Now I find out it is a convection of something or other...

Did we skip a few step there..???

Mitt Romney absolutely takes the cake. Outweirdoing Pat Robertson.

Single people, watch out!

Bashing Europe.
Read what he "heard" about France (rolling eyes) ... zzzzz

Mitt Romney ... truly weirder than I ever imagined.

check this out:

clip

"There is no work more important to America's future than the work that is done within the four walls of the American home," Romney said. He also criticized people who choose not to get married because they enjoy the single life."

clip

"It seems that Europe leads Americans in this way of thinking," Romney told the crowd of more than 5,000. "In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past."

clip

"And he twice referred to the Virginia Tech shootings on April 16 in which a gunman killed 32 people before killing himself.

"We're shocked by the evil of the Virginia Tech shooting," Romney said. "I opened my Bible shortly after I heard of the tragedy. Only a few verses, it seems, after the Fall, we read that Adam and Eve's oldest son killed his younger brother. From the beginning, there has been evil in the world."

He added: "Pornography and ...

I recall someone invoking "The Dance" at every opportunity.

"The Dance" in this case is pursuant to the next election cycle, which could place another gaggle of Republicans at risk.

If "The Dance" is played expertly, any Republican incumbent who defiantly remained in the Cheney/Bush camp will be in jeopardy...except for those who were redistricted with unrelentingly straight-party-voting constituencies.
