Man, Sam, that Barber guy sucks so badly he would not believe the evidence people called in giving him about the incompetence of Guilianni and that he ran New York City as a tyrant. This Barber guy is fucked up! He was so stubborn and kept saying I cannot believe any of this and wow theres a lot of people who bizzarely hate Guilianni. sigh. I'm guessing he's in his 60s cause he says things like Top Banana! I cannot believe this freak of a man is on a station like AIR AMERICA. WHERE did they get this clown from?! He sounds like Nathan Lane. To have someone as amazing as you on to this wack job is just unbelievably wrong and a slap in the face to you and the rest of us listeners. I best complain to the powers at air america pronto!

When the inevitable terrorist attack comes to the United States..

Who is it who will be positioned to take the blame..

Who is it who will looked to for defense and retaliation..??

The day will come when Al Qaeda want to bring the message back to the states...

At which point all bunch of politicians are going to be hung out to dry..!!!!!

How many times have we been hit after 911..??

Now if we were being hit daily, I would see you have a point..

But clearly a Terrorist can not be a 2 places a once..

At the same time..

Our Battles in both Iraq, and Afghanistan have demonstrated the diminishing returns gained from attacking the U.S Mainland ....

Of course we can not quit now..

Iran has not lost anything by being a Sponsor of Terrorism..

There is work yet to be done...

Waxman cautions Rice for 'hindering' Iraq intelligence investigation Michael Roston
Published: Friday May 4, 2007

Print This Email This

The Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee cautioned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice against hindering investigation into the intelligence used to build the case for the invasion of Iraq. The warning came because the committee was blocked from taking a deposition from a State Department intelligence analyst who had suggested in 2003 that fears of Iraq's nuclear program were based on a hoax.

"I am writing to urge you to instruct your staff, particularly officials in your legislative affairs office, not to impede the Committee's investigation into why President Bush and other senior Administration officials, including yourself, cited forged evidence in building a case for war against Iraq," wrote Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) in a letter released Friday.

The Committee had written to Simon Dodge, a nuclear weapons analyst at the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, who had warned the Intelligence Community in Jan. 2003 that allegations of Iraq seeking uranium from Niger were "probably a hoax" and "clearly a forgery." Dodge agreed to fully cooperate with the investigation.

But the committee had been blocked from deposing Dodge by the State Department's Bureau of Legislative Affairs after they asserted it "would be 'inappropriate' because the Committee voted to issue a subpoena to compel your attendance at a hearing on your knowledge of the fabricated evidence," the California Democrat wrote.

Waxman urged Rice to make Dodge available by May 9, writing, "I trust you will cooperate in this matter and instruct your staff to cease further interference with the Committee's inquiry."

The Oversight Committee Chairman also sought a variety of documents from Rice related to the investigation which he said that she had "failed to provide."

The full letter can read at the Committee's website.

The War Dog Plan calls for regime change in the Axis of Evil...

Local law enforcement is the key to preventing terrorism..

Just as was the case in Saudi Arabia the other day..

Nip it in the bud!!!

But you can't expect that if the Government is backing the Terrorists..

And you sure can't have them building Nuclear Weapons...!!!

Anonymous said...

"How many times have we been hit after 911..??"

last count, at least 3362 times, but that is just the fatal hits. Closer to 50,000 hits total.

"clearly a Terrorist can not be a 2 places a once.."

Just as clearly, our Military cannot be in two places at once. And it is breaking under the strain of referring a civil war.

"Our Battles in both Iraq, and Afghanistan have demonstrated the diminishing returns gained from attacking the U.S Mainland"

Oh really? Just ask Bin Laden... you can you know. He is still alive and free. And now with the Iraq War is just a recuitment poster for jihadists.

"There is work yet to be done..."

Yes, and we will be closer to finishing it, once the American people further marginalize lunatics like you.

Online Journalist Honored for Upholding Freedom

Thomas Jefferson once said, “Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” Last night, members of The Newspaper Guild-CWA (TNG-CWA) honored several of their peers who have demonstrated the power of journalists to make social change. May 3 marked World Press Freedom Day, with the focus this year on violence against journalists. (If you’re concerned about freedom of the press, check out coverage and get resources at Media Channel.)

Online journalist Josh Wolf received the Herbert Block Freedom Award at the Guild’s annual Freedom Fund Awards banquet in Washington, D.C. Wolf spent more than seven months in a federal detention center for refusing to turn over a protest video to authorities. His time in jail set a record for a journalist refusing to comply with a subpoena. Wolf’s video shows footage of the 2005 G-8 Summit in San Francisco’s Mission District, during which a police officer suffered a fractured skull. He had shown parts of the video on his website, www.joshwolf.net/blog, but authorities wanted it all, in addition to his testimony.Says TNG-CWA President Linda Foley:

Josh Wolf spent 226 days in jail upholding the principle that journalists should not be investigators for the government.

The Block award is named for a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist who died in 2001.

President BushAnnounces Butterfly Initiative in Louisiana

New Orleans, Louisiana

"It is a proven scientific fact that Butterflies start hurricanes."

"In June 2005, President Bush launched the President's Butterfly Initiative,

a five-year $1.2 billion program to combat Butterflies in 15 of the hardest-hit African nations.

Already, PBI is saving lives and spreading hope.

Aid from the American people -- that's the American taxpayers -- has reached more than 6 million Africans.

This year, 30 million more will receive lifesaving medicines, sprays and nets as the program expands.

The Butterfly Initiative also calls on developed countries,

private foundations and volunteer groups to help reduce

suffering and death caused by Butterflies. "

New Climate Change Report Debunks Key Right-Wing Talking Point On Global Warming
Today, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released the third part of its Assessment Report. The first two parts of the report released earlier this year dealt with the science and impacts of climate change. This new part suggests mitigating global warming’s effects can be done at a “modest cost.”

The right-wing has repeatedly advocated against taking bold action to curtail carbon emissions by propagating fears that it would bring down our economy:

Fox News: “Al Gore’s Global Warming Movie: Could It Destroy Our Economy?”

Rush Limbaugh: “[Liberals] would have us destroy our economy and millions of jobs based on pseudoscience.”

James Inhofe: “Global warming is an alarmism. It’s a type of a hoax. The reality is that a cap on carbon is a cap on the economy.”

The report sets a target of reducing global warming gas emissions by at least 50 percent by 2050. By employing the use of energy efficient methods and by increasing use in the renewable energy area, the IPCC report says there is enormous potential for the cost-effective deployment of energy systems that would help reduce pollution while producing employment gains. According to Bill Hare, one of the lead authors of the report, the cost is manageable:

HARE: Well, over the period to 2030 it’s going to cost about, maximum, I would say about 0.1 percent loss of annual GDP growth globally. I’m not sure that would really be detected in terms of the year-to-year variations in global growth.

“It has been shown for the first time that stopping climate pollution in a very ambitious way does not cost a fortune,” said Stephan Singer of the World Wildlife Fund. “There is no excuse for any government to argue that it is going to cause their economy to collapse.”

Waxman: State Department Gags Analyst Who Warned Of Niger Forgery
Three months before President Bush uttered his infamous 16 words, claiming there was evidence that Saddam Hussein was building a nuclear weapon, a State Department analyst named Simon Dodge had determined that the evidence for the claim was likely fraudulent.

Dodge emailed his assessment to fellow intelligence analysts in October 2002, and then again in January 2003 (two weeks before Bush’s State of the Union), saying the documents supposedly from Niger were “probably a hoax” and “clearly a forgery.”

According to Oversight and Goverment Reform Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA), the State Department is now refusing to let Dodge speak to Waxman’s staff, despite the fact that Dodge has indicated he is “willing to cooperate fully” with the investigation.

In a letter to Condoleezza Rice today, Waxman charges that the State Department is “imped[ing] the Committee’s investigation into why President Bush and other senior Administration officials, including yourself, cited forged evidence in building a case for war against lraq.”

[A] member of your legislative office informed Committee staff that you were prohibiting Mr. Dodge from meeting with Committee investigators. This official claimed that allowing Mr. Dodge to speak with Committee staff would be “inappropriate” because the Committee voted to issue a subpoena to compel your attendance at a hearing on your knowledge of the fabricated evidence.

I assume that your legislative staff was acting without your authorization in this matter. It would be a matter of great concern - as well as an obvious conflict of interest - if you had directed your staff to impede a congressional investigation into matter that may implicate your conduct as National Security Advisor.

The key question, Waxman writes, is whether Rice or any other senior officials “were aware of, or should have been aware of, Mr. Dodge’s assessment.” Apparently Rice doesn’t want us to know the answer.

Syphilis rise in U.S. gay, bisexual men causes worry

Fri May 4, 2007 1:01pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Syphilis has risen sharply among gay and bisexual men in the United States this decade, driving up the country's rate for the disease and placing these men at higher risk for AIDS, federal health officials say.

Since dropping to the lowest level on record in 2000, the U.S. rate of syphilis, a sexually transmitted bacterial disease, has risen steadily, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials said on Friday.

The rate rose five years in a row through 2005, the most recent year for which the CDC had figures.

Gay and bisexual men accounted for 7 percent of syphilis cases in 2000 but more than 60 percent in 2005, CDC experts estimated.

Hillary Calls on Telecom for Big Campaign Cash

Hillary Rodham Clinton's fundraising machine is working its magic among employees of the nation's biggest telecommunications companies, despite her support for an industry-unfriendly legislative initiative.

The New York senator and Democratic presidential candidate was the top recipient of funds from employees of AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner through the first quarter of 2007. John McCain, who holds a senior position on the Senate committee that oversees the telecom industry, lagged far behind.

Overall, employees of the nation's telecommunications and cable television companies contributed $119,250 to Clinton's campaign. McCain took in $79,300, an analysis of Federal Election Commission records showed.

Iran's foreign minister walked out of a dinner of diplomats in Egypt where he was seated directly across from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on the pretext that the female violinist entertaining the gathering was dressed too revealingly.

"I don't know which woman he was afraid of, the woman in the red dress or the secretary of state," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday, regarding the actions of Iran's Manouchehr Mottaki.

The dinner episode Thursday night amid a major regional conference on Iraq perfectly revealed how hard it was to bring together the top diplomats of the two rival nations.

During that period, the rates among women continued to slide — by 53 percent — while rates among men jumped by 62 percent. While syphilis statistics do not identify the gender of the sex partners of infected people, the study authors infer that a large number of those infected — 62 percent in 2003 — are gay or bisexual, in part, because so few women become infected.

At Kent State, Communist Jerry Rubin said this: "The first part of the Yippie program is to kill your parents. And I mean that quite literally, because until you're prepared to kill your parents, you're not ready to change this country. Our parents are our first oppressors."

May 4, 2007 3:34 PM

Funny you should mention this...I offer this personal antedote. I have four siblings. Two Democrats (liberal), two Republicans (conservative) and one apolitical.

We grew up poor, my father was self-serving, and my mother worked, when it wasn't the norm, to support the family.

My father died ten years ago and my mother struggles on social security, a small pension, and what I can do to help. The other Dem has a large family with alot of family medical issues. The apolitical is self-absorbed and self-serving as are the Republican siblings who are more well to do and are always blaming mom for their dismal childhoods. One took her in for a couple years so mom could pay rent while they saved for a larger home. Once they no longer needed the extra money, she was out, but they remain in contact for any additional expense because that's what parents are for, while they pull themselves up by their bootstraps. The other's contact with her is by sending her birthday and mother's day presents with a demand to know how she spends the money.

While my Republican sister and brother, staunch conservatives and part of the 28% still supporting Bush, were never hippies maybe they have assumed that program's requisite in support of a change that creates a country and world of darker consequences.

Be careful on your travels, for BushWorld will have dire consequences, you may meet up with those Karmic rewards you think you have now. Remember you will reap what you sow likely when you least expect it.

Louisiana State University Student Arrested for Alleged Threat to Kill Hillary Clinton

Friday, May 04, 2007

BATON ROUGE, La. — A Louisiana State University student was arrested on Friday after allegedly telling a fellow student he would kill Sen. Hillary Clinton when she visits Baton Rouge this weekend.

Richard Ryan Wargo, 19, is being held on a $1 million bond on counts of terrorizing, communicating false information of planned arson, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Clinton, a 2008 presidential candidate, is scheduled to be in Baton Rouge on Saturday to give a speech at the National Conference of Black Mayors.

The arrest warrant for Wargo doesn't not mention the mayors' conference, or give a specific day or time when the threat might be carried out.

Wargo's classmate told an LSU police officer about the threat, according to the warrant.

From NBC's Mark Murray and John Yang

Hillary Clinton's proposal to repeal the 2002 war authorization is being criticized from both the right and the left. At his on-the-record, off-camera gaggle this morning, deputy White House press secretary Tony Fratto called it "a political stunt."

Meanwhile, John Edwards -- who has implicitly criticized Clinton for her refusal to apologize for her war authorization vote -- released this statement today, which casts doubt on Clinton's proposal without naming her. "This is deja vu all over again. We saw it in Vietnam and we saw it earlier this year. We don't need any more non-binding resolutions or big statements; we need to end the war... In 1971, Congress repealed the resolution authorizing the Vietnam War -- and the war continued for four long years until Congress stopped funding it."

Iran won't budge at nuclear conference

By GEORGE JAHN Associated Press Writer

VIENNA, Austria — Under fire for stalling a 130-nation nuclear meeting, Iran accused the U.S. on Friday of being the real culprit, as the conference adjourned for the weekend in deadlock over Tehran's opposition to language of the gathering's agenda.

With the dispute in its fifth day, several non-Iranian diplomats at the conference said it could be dissolved without progress by Monday unless differences are resolved.

At issue is Tehran's refusal to accept a phrase calling for the "need for full compliance with" the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

That position has delayed adoption of the agenda since the conference opened Monday. Tehran argues the language could lead to its becoming a target at the meeting because of its refusal to heed U.N. Security Council demands to cease uranium enrichment and other parts of its nuclear program that could be misused to make nuclear weapons.

"If I reduce it to a simple sentence, it's this," said a senior European diplomat. "The Iranians are blocking things."

R E G I O N: Republican presidential candidates rap Iran

* Ahmadinejad says Iran’s nuclear ‘rights’ non-negotiable

SIMI VALLEY: Republican presidential hopefuls lambasted Iran in their first head-to-head debate Thursday, with the Islamic Republic accused of launching a “nightmare” quest for nuclear weapons.

One of the party frontrunners, Senator John McCain, accused Iran of sending lethal bomb making equipment, militants and suicide bombers into Iraq and killing US soldiers. “Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism. We all know that.

Iran continues their efforts to build nuclear weapons,” McCain said in the debate among 10 candidates gathered at the Ronald Reagan presidential library.

“My greatest fear is the Iranians acquire a nuclear weapon and give it to a terrorist organisation and there is a real threat of them doing that,” said McCain, who also called for a more intense US diplomacy to end the showdown.

Former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who leads opinion polls of the Republican race, admitted that the use of force against Tehran would be “very dangerous” but not as dangerous as a nuclear-armed Iran, and took a swipe at President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

“It’s the worst nightmare of the Cold War isn’t it? The nuclear weapons in the hands of an irrational person, an irrational force,” said Giuliani. “Ahmadinejad is clearly irrational.” Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo, a long-shot candidate, warned that Iran was led “by a gentleman who believes that he is going to be responsible for the coming of the 12th imam and a guy with a bomb.

‘Iran may target USA, Europe in eight yrs’

Agence-France Presse
WASHINGTON, May 4: Iran may have a long range missile capable of striking the United States and Europe in less than eight years, a senior State Department official has said.

Mr John Rood, the assistant secretary of state for international security and non proliferation, said the weapon could be wholly obtained from North Korea, which had provided Iran with ballistic missiles previously.

The American intelligence community has estimated that Teheran, which has defied UN sanctions to pursue a sensitive nuclear programme, could develop long-range missiles capable of reaching all of Europe and the United States before 2015 if it chooses to do so, he said yesterday.

“Our intelligence estimates are based on projections of when Iran could acquire this capability on its own, perhaps with some foreign assistance. A key determinant how rapidly Iran might progress of course would be that foreign assistance,” Rood told a Congressional hearing.

Sunny J and Other Tree Huggers,

The NPR station at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has an in-house news magazine program.

Today the program led with the subject of the freeze-zapped trees. So here's the scoop from professionals in the field (or, rather, forest).

The technical term is "False Spring" (not very imaginative, I know). False Springs are tracked by tree rings, mostly from oaks. The tree ring knowledge was derived from the relatively modern era of recorded climatology (and many other botanical sources), then extrapolated onto the years beyond human-recorded climate.

Early flowering oaks suffer more than later flowering oaks even though mere days might be the difference between one group and another. Red oaks flower earlier than White oaks. (This explains why I see the post-freeze White oaks leafing and greening-up while the Reds are lagging.)

The Reds will recover somewhat as time marches closer to summer. Acorn production will be severely reduced. Creatures having acorn-only diets are screwed. They will be dependent mostly upon White oaks and will be forced to travel farther to find food and will be less able to gather and store acorns for winter.

The aforementioned tree rings have an obvious signature indicating a False Spring. Not only are the ring gaps closer together, indicating slow growth, but the cambium cells (of the time) are crushed inward due to the force of freezing from the outside-in. The sap was rising from the roots to fuel the springtime flowering when the freeze hit.

In the past 350 years, northwest Arkansas oaks show signs of twenty False Springs. I'm gonna stick to decades rather than to misquote the correct years: The 1970's, 1950's, 1920's, 1890's were the most recent. The Grand Daddy of them all was in the 1820's which, said the expert, dwarfed the False Spring of 2007 though he further stated that 2007 was a significant event...probably somewhere in the middle between the worst and the least.

I am seeing the browned leaves of the Red oaks beginning to take on a sickly, greenish hue. The experts claim that there will be new flowering...maybe throughout the summer...as the oaks attempt to make up for lost time.

The experts claim that the hardwoods have evolved to deal with False Springs, though previously stressed and weak trees will die over the next few years.

Meanwhile, on a brighter note, my bird feeder is loaded with Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks and has daily visits from Scarlet Tanagers (frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn) and other seasonal visitors. The Pileated Woodpeckers are becoming braver and hanging out closer to my house (the wintertime ice storms caused tree damage that they are not able to resist exploring).

Maybe fewer acorns will result in fewer mice which will result in fewer ticks? My low opinion of ticks rivals War Dog's low opinion of peace activists. (There's a blood-sucking lesson in there somewhere.)

Checking in, Hi Sammy, Hi Bloggi. No new Bloggi!?

Looks like Woofie is re-energized by the Republican "debate" and all the Reaganite happy-talk, which was about as stimulating as a box of stale Ritz and a can o'Easy Cheese.

Here are some chestnuts from when conservatives tested the presidential plausible deniability waters with Bonzo:

"For 18 months now, we have had under way a secret diplomatic initiative to Iran. That initative was undertaken for the simplest and best reasons: to renew a relationship with the nation of Iran; to bring a honorable end to the bloddy six-year war between Iran and Iraq;to eliminate state-spondored terrorism and subversion, and to effect the safe return of all hostages...During the course of our secret discussions, I authorized the transfer of small amounts of defensive weapons and spare parts for defensive systems to Iran....These modest
deliveries, taken together could easily fit into a single cargo plane....We did not--repeat--did not trade weapons or anything else for hostages, nor will we."

"A few months ago I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and the evidence tell me it is not."

Woof..

Crank Bait said...

---In My Opinion---

The Democrats and, by extension, Liberals/Progressives/Independents are a fractured group of people. They always have been. This isn't news. It is nearly universally accepted as fact.

The Republicans and, by extension, Conservatives/Militarists/Libertarians have tended to march in cadence like good little soldiers. Again, this is not news. Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay made careers out of this fact.

What makes the upcoming election interesting is that the Republicans are now as fractured as the Democrats have always been.

Stem cell science has divided the Religious Right. They were previously in lockstep over their single issue; abortion. The evolution/creationism issue has angered learned believers.

Fiscal Conservatives hate the war, the flagging economy and escalating petroleum prices which are linked to the war and the economy and, not incidentally, years of Republican control of the Executive and Legislative branches of government.

Many Conservative-Libertarians are not happy with government surveillance and usurpation of rights.

Conservative parents and grandparents have been touched by dead and maimed kids returning from Iraq.

The Hawks are the only Conservative group still holding itself together, but they have been exposed for the tiny Republican group that they have always been.

The Liberal base hasn't changed; it's as varied and as disorganized as ever. The Conservative base has changed. It is wandering around in a fog, looking for a single, uniting cause and, thus, a uniting leader.

Senators Challenge Bush Administration’s Claim That Sudan Is ‘A Strong Partner In War On Terror’
Last week, the State Department released its 2006 terrorism report, which included this judgment about Sudan: “The Sudanese government was a strong partner in the War on Terror and aggressively pursued terrorist operations directly involving threats to U.S. interests and personnel in Sudan.”

But Sudan remains on the State Department’s list as a state sponsor of terror. And as a result of state-sponsored genocide, hundreds of thousands of people have died in Darfur and 2.5 million more have been forced to flee their homes. On April 18 in a speech at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, President Bush criticized the Sudanese government:

Sudan’s government has moved arms to Darfur, conducted bombing raids on villages, they’ve used military vehicles and aircraft that are painted white — which makes them look like those deployed by humanitarian agencies and peacekeeping forces.

Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR), Russ Feingold (D-WI), Olympia Snow (R-ME), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) wrote a letter today to National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell questioning the basis for the administration’s claim that Sudan “is a strong partner in the war on terror.” Feingold issued the following statement:

The Administration needs to explain why its recent terrorism report described the government of Sudan, a state sponsor of terrorism which has been behind the genocide in Darfur, as a “strong partner in the War on Terror.” As we seek to stop the genocide, it is critical that Congress have all necessary information related to this administration’s policies and priorities in Sudan.

In November 2001, Bush said partners in the war against terror networks would be put to a simple test: “You’re either with us or against us in the fight against terror.” But today, when asked about the discrepancy in its Sudan policy, White House spokesman Tony Fratto replied: “Look, the situation in Sudan is complicated.”

Perle acknowledged meeting Tenet a week after 9/11 at the White House, but claimed he never conversed with Tenet. Perle then said, “I never believed Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11.”

But CNN played a clip from 9/16/01 that showed Perle telling the network:

Even if we cannot prove to the standard that we enjoy in our own civil society they are involved, we do know, for example, that Saddam Hussein has ties to Osama bin Laden. That can be documented.

Watch it:

There is more strong evidence that Perle was advocating a war against Iraq shortly after 9/11. As ThinkProgress has noted, Perle signed a letter to President Bush on 9/20/01 that stated the following:

[E]ven if evidence does not link Iraq directly to the attack, any strategy aiming at the eradication of terrorism and its sponsors must include a determined effort to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq.

Moreover, conservative pundit Robert Novak recalls in a column today:

Over the telephone on Sept. 17, Perle told this column that there were few good targets in Afghanistan but many in Iraq. Perle, a former assistant secretary of defense, was then chairman of the Pentagon’s Defense Policy Board.

After thoroughly trashing Tenet, Perle later in the same interview cited him as a source for a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda. “There was a relationship,” Perle said. “It has not only been documented, as I said in the clip. But George Tenet himself has written a letter that indicates this.”

Tenet did indeed write a letter to the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2002 claiming an Iraq-al Qaeda relationship. But Tenet recently told Blitzer, “We were sloppy in that letter.”

I am not talking to my Mom anymore.

She has totally totally gone of the deepend.

She basicly told me that Im not really a Christian anymore.

That hurt

What am I supposed to do with that? Out religious her?

no thanks

I hate FOXNEWS. They have successfully destroyed the relationship between my mother and I. And I don't even bring up political things. I'd rather just talk to her.

I could give you "pee-in-your-pants" funny, but not while an AARP-eligible child is spamming the blog.

It's like trying to get laughs from mall clerks while they crouch behind their counters to avoid the locked-and-loaded madman.

I haven't been able to talk politics, religion or current events with my folks in over a decade other than to occasionally harmlessly poke fun at each other. It makes things tough sometimes--as these are topics that I enjoy discussing with people--but, we still manage to have a substantive conversation once in a while

Just don't bring this shit into your family. It's not worth it.

Well, I'm watching the Rocky/Hannity Smackdown... I did not come up with that name... the local Fox affiliate carrying the debate did.

We've got some scarrrrrry people here in Utah. Listening to the audience I'm dumbfounded that so many people still link 9/11 and Iraq. Not the new "The Iraq war is part of the whole war on terror" argument... just that Iraq is guilty of the act. Wow. I live amongst very stupid people.

Rocky's getting booed a lot, but, also has a strong following there. But, we knew the Fannity's would be there in droves. He's up in a minute.

What's funny though is that if you were screaming at a line of Republicans you'd probably have no problem telling them how stupid you think they are, and they you...but it's different to be in a room with Republican family members...

They both get 30 minutes to present their side, then it gets opened up to audience questions. THAT will be the interesting part.

I'll take that one further alice...

In my own case I wouldn't tell either party off (a stranger or a parent), but I'd definitely think the stranger is a desperately ignorant jackass, whereas with my mom and/or dad I just accept that that's what they believe and nothing I say or do is going to change that at this point -- without ever getting to the point of thinking them to be ignorant.

Admittedly, I have come close to that point a few times in the past few years.

If you were joyous you'd be spending this time with your friends, online or otherwise.

Instead, you spend your time here inviting disgust.

How about them RV buddies? Them bike buddies? Don't you think that they are yearning for your joyous company about now?

That's not only disgusting to see, it's disrespectful to your planet"...even though I don't really know if it is or not...I just know it makes me upset...
