Wednesday: We're Your Safe Haven From Terror...For Three More Days

We're fightin 'em on the air, so you don't have to fight them in person. Today we welcome Italian journalist Carlo Bonini, who's done some great work investigating the forged Niger documents that were instrumental in forging the lies that took us into Iraq. His new book is called, Collusion: International Espionage and the War on Terror. Plus we'll have Christy Harvey from the Center for American Progress and blogger, author, and activist David Sirota.

From Vonnegut's knowing what's nice:

Do you know what a Humanist is? I am honorary president of the American Humanist Association, having succeeded the late, great science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in that functionless capacity. We Humanists try to behave well without any expectation of rewards or punishments in an afterlife. We serve as best we can the only abstraction with which we have any real familiarity, which is our community.

We had a memorial services for Isaac a few years back, and at one point I said, ''Isaac is up in Heaven now.'' It was the funniest thing I could have said to a group of Humanists. I rolled them in the aisles. It was several minutes before order could be restored. And if I should ever die, God forbid, I hope you will say, ''Kurt is up in Heaven now.'' That’s my favorite joke.

Thanks, A.

Weird, though. One of our faithful departed said the same thing when she heard it. Not that I'm complaining, of course.

: )

I just hope some of this is cracking through the bubble at AAR central.

Kurt's views on humanism heavily influenced my ideas about positive action. I by no means succeed, but I think he had the right idea.

conbo,
I don’t think it is stupid. Along with you, I have more faith in Sam Seder than the management at Air America Radio now.

If I thought protesting with you would help, I would join you at the windowsill. I also would take a leap of faith for Seder.

When Seder spoke up against intolerance today, it reminded me of why I listen to his progressive show. (What do you think about the name, Super Seder on Sunday?)

I do think Seder will have new opportunities soon. We must keep faith.

p.s. (conbo, you are on the first floor by the windowsill on the grassy side of the building. Right? Just don't throw your laptop if you jump and it should be okay. How would you post on the blog -- if you accidentally broke your computer? I would miss your comments. Best wishes, conbo).

Will do, A.

Sleep well!

I'll keep hoping.

Waiting for Cicero said...

I'll follow him to weekends or Nova M, or even if he does his own independent podcast. I know plenty of folks in Portland and Eugene who will do the same.

See you in Heaven Kurt. (He'd think it was funny.)

Wow. just randomly awoke to find another hero dead.

God bless humanism.

a sad morning all,

Kurt Vonnegut will be missed by all of us that like poking around for that occasional bit of truth and humor in life.

air-ono said...

oh, golly gee sorry stinking trolls

but Lee Iacocca agrees with us:

Where Have All the Leaders Gone?

//Had Enough? Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course." Stay the course? You've got to be kidding.

This is America, not the damned Titanic.

I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out!

I hardly recognize this country anymore.

The President of the United States is given a free pass to ignore the Constitution, tap our phones, and lead us to war on a pack of lies.

Congress responds to record deficits by passing a huge tax cut for the wealthy (thanks, but I don't need it).

The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs.

While we're fiddling in Iraq, the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do.

And the press is waving pom-poms instead of asking hard questions.//

[BAMM!!]

not bad for an 82yo

What a Happy Doggie Thursday...

Only one more day before Vacation...

For both ME and SAM....

Ya gotta love that..!!!

Sam is gonna be so much happier once he is set free from the daily negativity..

War Dog said...

We are going Camping and Biking this weekend..

Then Monday we head for Vegas..

If the weather won't warm up here..

We will go find the Sun..

Life is too short to wallow in bad weather..!!!

War Dog said...

I am looking forward to Lionel's first show..

Wow, is he going get a warm reception..

Insecure people just love change..

Especially when it is forced upon them...

War Dog said...

Right on cue..

On of those poor insecure souls pops up to voice a little fear..

Fear not..

Let not your heart be heavy..

Life goes on and get better each day..!!!

War Dog said...

I love change..

Change means new opportunities..

Sam will soon know what I mean..

Whither he likes it right now or not..!!

War Dog said...

I listened to one of Lionel's shows..

He sure will be different..

That difference will be even more dramatic because his job will be to widen the audience from this tiny base...

War Dog said...

So many of the notes that have been left here over the last few days reflect a sense of loss..

Now Sam isn't goin anywhere..

He is just changing..

Change is good..!!!

If AAR does not change, it will go away..

Change is the standard in Radio..

"Can I tell you the truth? I mean this isn’t like TV news, is it?

Here’s what I think the truth is: We are all addicts of fossil fuels in a state of denial, about to face cold turkey.

And like so many addicts about to face cold turkey, our leaders are now committing violent crimes to get what little is left of what we’re hooked on."

Kurt Vonnegut

War Dog said...

This is still the greatest country in the world..

Great opportunities are available to Sam..

Many more than most people..

Even if AAR has failed as a network..

It has been a success for Sam..

He has made of name for himself on the national stage..

That only leads to good things..

War Dog said...

This Lionel has been doing this for 18 years..

That is almost as long as Rush..!!!

Then both clearly know the formula for success in radio..

And that is what Capitalism Demands..!!!

War Dog said...

Sam was the only one I ever listen to on AAR..

But I will give Lionel a chance..

I bet he is more Liberal than folks are saying..

And if he move AAR farther to the right..

Then AAR will have a better change to survive..

CNN is telling me that there's been an explosion in the Iraqi Parliament building -- in the cafeteria. Details are sketchy right now although there are "numerous casualties." But the building is in the Green Zone. As an aside, I have to say that CNN's Kyra Phillips has been doing good work from Baghdad. She's in a no spin mode.

This all plays out against the backdrop of our President's incompetence, stubbornness and inability to deal with the reality in Iraq. That's why Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have to be so strong.

If AAR moves to the right..

Perhaps Business will learn not to fear this network..

You saw what happened to Imus once Big Business began to fear what he might saw..????

Selling ADs is your first job in AM radio..

Keeping those advertisers happy is your second..

War Dog said...

Imus was finished when Business back away from him..

It was then that the networks reacted..!!!

Limit the loss..!!!

That is what happened here at AAR too!!
