Today we welcome Italian journalist Carlo Bonini, who's done some great work investigating the forged Niger documents that were instrumental in forging the lies that took us into Iraq. I agree 100%. I usually listen to podcasts of Sam, Randi and Rachel.
However, if I only have time to listen to 1 podcast, it is Rachel's.

And "Lionel" -- when I was young, that meant toy train sets that I always wanted, and when I finally got one, it worked for three days and crapped out. When I was older, it meant "Ritchie" which meant boring middle-of-the-road pseudo-jazz. Neither brings good associations to my mind.

Lionel over Sam Seder? What a poor decision. You are certainly continuing the sad AAR-management trend of discontinuing real talent versus actually investing in some advertising for honest hard working, effective and popular hosts like Sam. I have run out of patience. You need to promote the people that made this network possible. What was once a juggernaut is now a sputtering junker. It is unfortunate that you don't see this.
Sam Seder has carried this network so many times I can't begin to count them. He is worth a lot more to progressive America than Lionel is and I will not be streaming AAR anymore. I am moving exclusively to Nova M and they are growing and now have premium memberships to which I will be glad to contribute. I will continue to listen to Sam on his upcoming Sunday show until he leaves this pathetic network for someone who can really appreciate his talent as a broadcaster, but from now on I will simply stream Nova M instead of this anti-juggernaut regressive network. It is simply too anti-net-roots. The roots are changing this country whether you like it or not. Sticking your head in the Centrist sand ain't gonna change reality.
I gritted my teeth through the AAR decision to break up Morning Sedition. I canceled my Premium membership last year when the old management fired Malloy. Now with the decision to "demote" Sam Seder, I am leaving altogether. Lionel is a joke, progressive-lite, one-time Bush and War in Iraq supporter! This is your choice for replacing Seder! This is wonderful! Sam, Nova M treats their people well, they have a consistent connection to the internet, and they have a real loyal fan base who won't let anything happen to it. Remember it was the LISTENERS who saved 1480, and their staff listens to US.
Sheldon is a good man. You would do well to consider any serious offer that Sheldon makes to you and let AAR twist in the wind. AAR has not been loyal to you or it's listeners and you have given them your all.

Anonymous, they may not be able to pay as much, but at least they PAY. Marc never got paid his severance pay, nor did Mike Malloy. They just defaulted on their contracts. And everyone else has been screwed that way as well. Nova M will pay them, and the more affiliates they get, and more founding members they get, the more they can pay their talent.

With possibly one exception, the rest of our would be presidents of the United States would be hard pressed to put together a functional backbone of an Iraq policy. Instead of triangulating speeches, posturing and jockeying for position, they should be bravely stepping forward without equivocation to call for an immediate end to the occupation of Iraq. Who of them will speak out, even as we ourselves need to keep speaking out now?
Isn't there some middle ground of a choice between an out of control dictator and a flock of well financed chickens (of both parties)? Who will lead where the American people have already arrived? Will it be the candidate who declared they are losing their patience, but not quite for another year and a half until they can get elected themselves? Or will it be the candidate who was the first to declare legislative surrender and predict that the Democrats would cave in, again, on a time line for disengagement in the new supplemental war profiteering bill? Or will somebody else FINALLY get it? Who will take the lead, and not just try to take political advantage? Whoever it is WILL be the next president of the United States.

Florida Legislature Forces University To Idolize Jeb Bush
Two weeks ago, the University of Florida voted to deny Jeb Bush an honorary degree. By a 38-28 vote, the faculty Senate rejected the former governor’s nomination, citing concerns about some of Bush’s education initiatives, including his dismantling of affirmative action programs in the state:
In higher education circles, Bush’s greatest criticism came over his “One Florida” plan, which ended race-based admissions in state universities. Black enrollment dropped at UF and statewide after the change took effect, as critics predicted.
Bush’s policies of “rewarding and punishing schools according to students’ standardized test results and using vouchers to send certain students to private schools at public expense” also contributed to the rejection of his nomination.
Upset by this lack of Jeb Bush adoration, the conservative-controlled House Schools & Learning Council voted yesterday to force the university to rename its education school the “Jeb Bush College of Education.”
Over the faculty’s opposition, the school will now have “to erect ‘suitable markers‘ noting the college’s new name and include the revised name in all university documents, including catalogues and brochures.” The lawmakers acknowledge they “came up with the idea as an answer” to the faculty’s denial of Bush’s honorary degree.

What can we do to help each other in this work?

the slow-motion awakening. These sanctuaries might take the form of
temporary autonomous zones like festivals and parties and workshops,
where we can ritually potentiate the evolving mysteries of pronoia. Or
they might be more enduring autonomous zones like homes and cafes and
businesses where we can get regular practice in freeing ourselves from
the slavery of hatred in all of its many guises.
What else can we do to help each other? We can conspire together to
carry out the agenda that futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard names: to
hospice what's dying and midwife what's being born. We need the trigger
of each other's rebel glee as we kill off every reflex within us that
resonates in harmony with the putrefaction. We need each other's
dauntless cunning as we goad and foment the blooming life forces within
us that thrive on the New World's incandescent questions.
Here's a third way we can collaborate: We can inspire each other to
perpetrate healing mischief, friendly shocks, compassionate tricks,
blasphemous reverence, holy pranks, and crazy wisdom . . . .

Hey Sammy, I'll be missing you, but as has been said, it will free up a 3-hour time slot for chores or something.
You would be a welcome addition to any day, but once/week isn't enough, yanno?

Which reminds me, if you come to San Diego, see if the little train outside Balboa Park/Zoo is still in operation. Myla should love it. (It was about 50 years ago that I rode it.)
AAR keeps dropping or rearranging all the really brilliant voices; sad. Of course it's also deliberate.
My advice in these years of downsizing and outsourcing is to learn to live on less. Practice for it in any small way you can, then it won't be as painful--eat out less, drive fewer miles, etc.

If you are still on the blog, I've check my old computer. Unfortunately, the last emails I have on file were sent to Lionel on April 26, 2006 and May 27, 2006. The April email was sent in response to another chauvinistic remark he made about sexual harassment. It was not about Monica Lewinsky. It was about women in general. The other email was about illegal immigration.
If my memory serves me correct, the incidents with Rachel and Monica happened before these dates.

I came to Air America because of Al Franken but soon discovered the Minority Report & Morning Sedition. They quickly became my two favorite shows and I listened daily via the free podcast. When Air America started charging for the podcasts, I grudgingly became a premium member in order to sustain my burgeoning addiction. Since then Air America has consistantly let me down by cancelling Maron's show twice and jerking you guys around. I just don't know what can be going on in their heads over there. I know the bottom line is the main concern of any business, but how is it they can't make money with the best shows on the radio (podcasts in my case)?
Thank you for entertaining and informing me over the past three years. I don't know where I am going to get my daily dose of info. now. Also, thanks for turning me on to new bands like the Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, & the Decemberists - you guys have always had the best bumper music around. I especially loved hearing "Swamp Thing" almost everyday!
You guys have become a big part of my life and my daily routine, and in a weird way seem like friends to me because of all of the time we spend "together." I'll miss you guys and hope that the Sunday gig actually happens. If it does, please push for it to be one of the free podcasts.

In the latest evidence that President Bush’s Iraq escalation strategy is forcing the military to the breaking point, Defense Secretary Robert Gates “said Wednesday that he was extending the tours of duty for active-duty Army troops in Iraq and Afghanistan from 12 to 15 months.”
UPDATE: House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO): “This new policy will be an additional burden to an already overstretched Army. I think this will have a chilling effect on recruiting, retention, and readiness. We also must not underestimate the enormous negative impact this will have on Army families.”

What more can I say that has not already been said by countless others on the blog? I too will miss your show for it is informative, educational and entertaining. 3 hours a week will not be enough!!!
I am sure that you are already thinking about/planning other projects with the extra 15 hours per week you'll have.
One idea is to work on your DAILY news summary/newsletter so that it may be turned into a book when appropriate.
Another is a 1 hour television project where callers and internet users vote on 1 or 2 news topics of the day to be discussed at length. Then, people may call in to voice their opinion. This is the concept behind NY1's The Call show on Time Warner Cable in NYC (http://www.NY1.com).
Ofcourse, there will be some significant differences. You can "pratice" this concept by getting a live 30 minute (28 to be exact) show on Public Access TV, MNN (Manhattan Neighborhood Network, http://www.mnn.org).
It would be great if you gave some serious thought to these or the other options discussed on this blog (Nova M, etc.). Your voice plays important role in "waking [us] up [from] the nightmare."
