I planned to write more here by now, but I'm a bit tired and I am taking myla to swim classes! I'll have more soon and will announce some blog news I think you'll like.

Thank you all for the emails, snail mails and comments of support, I am truly blown away.

G'morning, Seder.
I've liked all the blog news,
the blog reality, however... eh.

Have a fun, soggy morning!

From Mark Green:
"I, too, think Sam is terrific and was eager to keep him on air."

So, this being the Bizarro planet, he took the show off.

No doubt Green will take he comments down again (for the third time).

One out of a thousand in support of Lionel?

Sam,

I am a loyal Howard Stern listener. I have listened to Stern religously for the last 12 years. I bought Sirius the day he announced his move. You are the only person who has ever mage me change the dial. I now listen to your show in the mornings instead of Howard.

If you can beat the most successful radio host of all time. You have to be pretty good.

You are too talented on radio to be out of job for a long time. Air America is making a massive mistake.

Yikes! This move by AAR has certainly unleashed a shitstorm - the negative, enraged comments on the AAR homepage have been piling up (for all to see, I might add) - & I count 4 separate sets of comments - 2 sets on the 'From the desk of MG' on the homepage, & 2 on the 'Press' link under 'About Us'.....

I imagine this move was a result Mr. Green relying on an 'establishment' radio veteran - didn't he say that new exec.(forgot his name) he brought on was just that?

It does *seem* as if this was railroaded through. & while I have no idea how long a time they spent in consideration/preparation for it, I'm also curious why they didn't wait for latest ratings to come out 1st.....?

I love the idea of a fresh 3 hr. Sunday show, instead of reruns, but how much revenue can they get from the weekends anyway?

Perhaps they'll re-run Sam's show on a late weeknight too?

Argghh! We NEED Sam on more than just 1 day a week!

Here's hoping this'll free him up for more TV time..... = J

Jenise said...

"Perhaps they'll re-run Sam's show on a late weeknight too?"

that would be nice, pinellas. but you're right. one day a week of sam just isn't enough. this is ridiculous.

time for a nap now. the last few days have been exhausting - a visit from a friend who gets very defensive and vocal when he hears the US criticized. if you can't handle hearing ridicule of and anger at the US, now is not the time to be traveling overseas.

On Sam's new show:

How about using Sam like MSNBC and NBC use Russert. Have Sam preview his Sunday show on Randi's Friday Show and then do a follow up on Monday on Randi's show as well as other AAR weekday shows.

We owe Greg some real kudos for his investigative reporting. He's definitely one of my favorite sources.

"In the new Armed Madhouse: From Baghdad to New Orleans — Sordid Secrets and Strange Tales of a White House Gone Wild you’ll find an America where Republicans sucking on Super-sized Slurpies hunt dark-skinned voters to eliminate their rights; where James Baker’s fixer in alligator boots sets up the grab for Iraq’s oil on her way to the rodeo; where educational testing profiteers terrorize our kiddies (in “No Childs’ Behind Left”); plus, my chat with Hugo Chavez about his coming assassination. AND a killer recipe for fish curry. PLUS scores of illustrations of those intriguing documents marked, ‘confidential’ — by the State Department, World Bank — and Karl Rove."

I thought I'd put this here also because because no telling how long comments will be allowed to stay up on the AA site.

Mr. Green were you part of the crowd that thought it would be a good idea to fire Howard Dean after the ’06 victory? I bet you were. Sam in his own Blog-loving, Fighting Dem-loving way (ka-ching) was a huge part of that 50 state strategy. Thom is the professor of Air America, while Rachael and Randi (do your homework), keep us greatly entertained and informed. They all encourage activism (tag your it). But Sam did something that none of them do quite as well and that was to bring all the energy of the Blog community into the Air America fold. In one way or other Air America listeners are activists some before but many more were greatly encouraged after they became listeners to become more involved. I can’t help but think firing Sam is about who gets ignored and whose voices get heard and who wins the primary.

Liberals who give a damn are a hard group to shut up, just ask Madame Speaker if Code Pink is easy to keep down.

I doubt Randi would give up any air time to anybody that isn't named Randi.

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, unremembered gate
When the last of earth left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the longest river
The voice of the hidden waterfall
And the children in the apple-tree
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two waves of the sea.
Quick now, here, now, always-
A condition of complete simplicity
(Costing not less than everything)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flames are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one.

You take that cute kid to swimming lessons, and then admire her new purple shoes... aww...

Of course, like all normal parents, you'll get tired of that real soon and be ready for something new.

But it's the moments in between that make up life.

Like Alan Watts wrote:

"You don't know who you are, do you? you can't quite, get at your self just like the fingertip can't touch itself and the teeth can't bite themselves and thats because you, the real, far in you, is what we call brahman, the Self of the universe

The heart and foundation of all thats going on

you can't have an up without a down, or a back without a front, a light day without a dark night,

My response to Mr. Green's latest missive:

Replacing Sam with someone who is A) not a Progressive and B) shows evidence of past, Imus-like hate speech, means you have lost me, and thousands of other listeners/customers.

How does banishing Sam to a near dead-air Sunday time slot give his show any real chance for success? Additionally, the netroots and blogs are very dynamic. A once per week show will not adequately reflect the vibrancy of these new institutions.

Mr. Green, as a privileged, sheltered wealthy scion, you sir are woefully out of touch with what we of the newest political generation want.

Karl Rove Visits Oregon on Friday the 13th, Met with Protesters

Probably the second most reviled member of the Bush Administration, Karl Rove, visited the Portland, Oregon suburb of Tigard as a guest of the Washington County Republican party. About 200 people paid to sit in and listen to Rove, and almost that many were outside protesting his visit. Many people are surprised that Rove came to Oregon at all, especially the Portland area. No one except for Dick Cheney or the President himself are more disliked by the majority of people living here. Still, there are supporters.

The police presence was large at very visible. Secret Service, Tigard police, a SWAT team, and personnel from other area law enforcement agencies were involved in protecting the man who has been called "Bush's brain." After protesters at a college in Washington, D.C. last week brought national attention to a anti-Rove protest, the anticipation in Tigard was that there would be a vocal protest at the scene.

The location of Rove's appearance was kept under cover for the most part until this week, when bloggers and radio personalities started talking about it. Local and national radio host Thom Hartmann, host of the Thom Hartmann show on Air America radio, expressed that he was planning on attending. If he didn't get bumped out, that is. The Washington County Republican party in it's invitations stated that it had the right to decline anyone. Not surprising for a party who likes to make sure that the guest list is taken up only with those favorable. If your guest list always has to be vetted, you might be doing something wrong.

Rove is currently embroiled in another scandal, this one involving the political firings of U. S. attorneys. The scandal will most likely end the tenure of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. So far, Rove has dodged the bullet. It was just a few weeks ago that "Scooter" Libby was convicted for lying about the outing of Valerie Plame. Rove, although highly implicated, was not indicted. His behind the scenes machinations are thought by many to be brilliant, although he was unable to bring victories to the Republicans in the 2006 elections. Not that he didn't try. The failings of Bush and the Republican leadership were too much for even the master magician.

Kurt Vonnegut

http://www.vonnegutweb.com/archives/arc_nice.html

"Now then, there’s a good news and there’s a bad news tonight. The bad news is that the Martians have landed in New York City, and are staying at the Waldorf. The good news is that they only eat homeless man, women and children of all colors, and they pee gasoline.

But seriously, if you read the supermarket tabloids you know that for the past 10 years a team of Martian anthropologists has been studying our country, the only country worth a damn on the whole planet—forget Brazil and Argentina. Well, they went back home last week because they knew how really awful global warming is about to be.

Their space ship wasn’t a flying saucer. It was more of a flying soup tureen. And they’re little, only six inches high, but they aren’t green. They’re mauve.

By way of farewell, their little mauve leader said there were two things about American culture no Martian could ever understand.

''What is it,'' she said in that teeny-weeny, tanny-wanny, toney-woney little voice of hers, ''what can it possibly be about blow jobs and golf?''

That is stuff from a novel I’ve been working on for the past five years, about a standup comedian at the end of the world. It is about making jokes while we are killing all the fish in the ocean, and touching off the last chunks or drops or whiffs of fossil fuel. But it will not let itself be finished.

Its working title—or actually non-working title—is If God Were Alive Today. And hey, listen: It is time we thanked God that we are in a country where even the poor people are overweight. But the Bush diet could change that."

It's another entry in my unending quest for a pun with the mostest multiple alternative meanings.

"Blog" and "blogging" are ugly words. Some words seem to sound like they connote goodness or desirableness or pleasantness. Other words seem to sound like they connote something you wouldn't want to find in your underwear.

And "underwear" is just plain, ol' funny. At least mine are. If I had a loom, I'd like to think that its fruit would be more impressive.

Somebody is posting in my name making arguements against Sam and its complete bullshit.

Grow up, Sam...
I am concerned that Air America reach the widest audience possible. Sam Seder's demeanor is consistently bombastic and this surely repulses many listeners. Political debate is not improved by taking a hard line stance. Sure, many people are outraged by the Bush administration, but the outrage should not be expressed incoherently.

Those who support Bush do so because they are influenced by hard line stances within what (they should consider) unlawful right wing propaganda. Sam Seder probably never reached many Bush voters with the convincing argument and evidence they need to best judge political controversy.

I still remember Rush Limbaugh's entry into the local radio market with his bombastic commentary that ended with, "I'm here and there's nothing you can do about it." I turned the dial instantly to prove something could be done about it. How many people were similarly repulsed by Sam Seder's tangiential outrage? What could they have learned if Sam hadn't irritated them this completely?

Thank you for your objective views and the vast information you provide. Your coaching in getting off my butt and hitting the streets during election 2006 was instrumental for me.
I'll miss hearing your voice during my week day mornings. Looking forward to your, "Sunday With Seder". All the best to you Sam!

If you click on 'Wells' it even takes you to my AA account. So if it sounds like a scardy cat, got beat up on the playground all the time, right wing neocon loony; its not me.

This is what I wrote this morning; a little conspiratorial but that's how I was feeling this morning as I bet a lot of you were also.

Hi Sam, is it okay if I stand up for my name a little bit. I know the object of the trolls is to distort and derail the conversation. I've never been a contributing part this Blog community but I've been apart of your radio family from the beginning and I'm more than a tad bit upset about what happened.

You've all noticed my name has been stolen by a troll and there is a reason they won't use they're real names, they are cowards.

To the Red 25 - 30 percent

It seems your reluctance to “stand up” for freedom and righteousness within your own country and its policies is based on fear.
.
The fear is understandable; to willing stand up against power, when all you want is security. As long as you can have your lifestyle and be comfortable in your homes and feel nice and safe until you die you’re willing to have ‘Big Brother’ take care of you from ‘cradle to grave’. ‘From cradle to grave’ your willing to sell out your children’s and grandchildren’s future liberty, national assets and climate in order ‘to keep things just the way they are’, to feel secure in your finances and lifestyle.
.
You’re willing to give up freely what others, who came before you worked, suffered and died for. Why, because you’re afraid of the boogie man from the Middle East who has the strange religion and frightening ways. You’re willing to throw it all away because of fear mixed with a healthy dose of ignorance and a smattering of hate. No amount of evidence can convince you seriously misguided adherents of anything Bush that you are willing victims of propaganda and lies.
.
You don’t realize you have foolishly surrendered your loyalty to a man. You’re too blind to see you are denying your faithfulness to what you so proudly proclaim as God and country. You are swept up by the passion of conflict and follow along aimlessly, duped into following because of your own voluntary ignorance and fear of going against what seems popular with your peers causing you to halt any questions you may have floating around in your conscience.
.
Fear of the legitimate threat of terrorism is allowing you to be weak on protecting our most cherished gifts we possess as Americans; our freedoms as set forth in our constitution and its amendments. You’re allowing yourselves to be taken advantage of by those who would desire to see your freedoms lessened for their own lustful purposes.

Woe to those whose spirit compels them to speak against the flood of popular vengeance. The desire to strike back against a foe is so strong anyone trying to quell the rising tsunami of violence is flooded with anger, revulsion and distrust. The courage it takes to express legitimate descent is ignored as is their deep felt loyalty and patriotism. Throughout history their lot has been plagued with torture, exile and death.
.
Everyone who interferes is perceived as being less than loyal and you’re willing to destroy them to keep yourselves feeling safe and secure. You call yourselves good and them bad. You use your abundance of possessions comfortable lifestyle versus their lack of anything, in the third world, as proof that you are most beloved by God; proof that you are doing everything God’s way; proof that God is on your side.

Treating troops poorly is not supporting them.
http:// circuitousnoodle.blogspot .com/2007/02/treating- troops-poorly-is- not.html
.
You’re asking a small group of others to bare the burden of making you feel safe and secure. Your only contribution is to feign support by flying the flag in front of your home or placing the yellow ribbon on your car. When I see it there I wonder what's truly in your head and whether you are only flying it because you have been possessed by extreme right wing nonsense willingly voiding your brain of any idea of what the flag really stands for. Our fathers and grandfathers fought under this flag in WWII defeating fascism in Europe. They were truly supported by sacrifices from everyone at home; industry included.
.
This same flag is now being dirtied because it is being used as a banner for creeping fascism in our own country. They do not embrace Hitler’s, Mussolini’s, Franco’s, or anyone else’s version of fascism. They are playing with their own Neoconservative version. Future historians and political scientist may develop a better name but, for us, for now, fascism is accurate enough. It has been disaster in every country it has existed in and ours would be no exception. You people who have welcomed this filthy ideology have disgraced our flag, our forefather’s sacrifices and the very dust of their bones.
.
You good Republicans need to develop the courage to see the truth because these monsters are destroying you from within and along with you they’re dragging the whole nation into disgrace. These are not your fathers Republicans they’re essentially fascists and devastation is their mistress.
.
If you love your country, 'Speak truth to power!'

I couldn't let this pass about the comment, made twice, on last night's blog, about Lionel's remark over saying the "N" word. The 2 bloggers said Lionel didn't know how come white people couldn't say the "N" word. That isn't true. I've been listening to Lionel all week discuss Imus and his remarks and I was listening last night when Lionel said what he's been saying all week, which is thus: If a white person can't understand how come a white person can't/shouldn't say the "N" word, then he/Lionel can't help him understand how come s/he/a white person can't/shouldn't say the "N" word. The white person who can't understand .... is beyond helping.

By explaining this, I'm not agreeing with Mark Green's decision to replace Sam with Lionel; Lionel has a place and Sam's place isn't Lionel's. I want Sam where he is best: Weekly, during the day. I've written all week to Mark and the 2 other white men; evidently, like all of you, to no avail. Hell, if Bobby Kennedy, Jr. can't change Mark Green's mind, then a nobody like me as no bloody chance.

Very, very sad but not surprising.

On the hopeful side, once AAR observes the power of Sam (if it's not too late, before he moves to NovaMRadio), they'll beg him to come back to the "days" and grant him anything he wants.

If AAR doesn't wait too long.

Sam .... take a well-deserved break! You may discover a quiet/peaceful life is a life of reflection and worth.

Takecare, :) :) :) :)

Peace

Email Scandal Puts Rove In New Political Peril
Associated Press | April 14, 2007 04:54 PM

The fight over documents has gone to red alert. The White House acknowledges it cannot find four years' worth of e-mails from chief political strategist Karl Rove. The admission has thrust the Democrats' nemesis back into the center of attention and poses a fresh political challenge for President Bush.

The administration has acknowledged that some e-mails missing from Rove's Republican party account may relate to the firing of eight U.S. prosecutors last year. The Democratic-run Congress is investigating whether the firings resulted from political pressure by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and the White House.

I left a message on the Seder line this weekend basically saying "this guy is going places" and you guys would do well to put him back on weekedays - if you've just got to have Lionel, put Sam on 12-3, I can live without Ed Schultz - this seems like a great drive-time slot b/c people like me, anyway, are driving to lunch, running errands, etc. Anyway, I just sang your praises (and I let them know I am in big red state SC!) Also let them know that I had only been listening for a couple of weeks since I got XM mainly to get Air America and that I had already become hooked on your program.

They are fools if they don't re-think this and if they don't, we are still going to see you shoot up the media/internet ladder and they will kick themselves in their shallow butts.

They seem to be out of touch with the power of the blogosphere, which you seem to have a good grasp on. I think they will regret their short-sightedness.

Your weekly show was a gem I looked forward to each morning on the way from my radiation treatments to work!!

Sam, you got it goin' on - no matter what you do, you will be a huge success.

And, yes, if they keep trying to slide to the center (like The Young Turks, which is just SUCH a disappointment, honestly - they think this show is worth keeping weekday mornings but Seder's is not - HUH??) - I am dumping XM at the end of my contract and thus dumping Error America.

Right now, I'm only hanging on to Air America for Rachel Maddow, but Sam was my favorite, really the reason for listening at all.

I stopped trying to support the station when they brought Jerry Springer to the forum. In my opinion, he contributed highly to the sensationizing of news and the dumbing down of America through his trash TV style talk-show. I really hate that guy. It was just too embarrassing that he was picked up as a host.

Sam Seder is to AAR what Jon Stewart is to Comedy Central. When are management going to realize that? Too late now, I guess.
