U.S. surge fails to stem Baghdad violence, general says
By Nancy A. Youssef
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON - Army Gen. David Petraeus, the top commander in Iraq, said Thursday that the surge of U.S. and Iraqi troops into Baghdad hadn't reduced overall violence in the country and that the situation was "exceedingly complex."

"Exceedingly complex" as in "what am I supposed to do, Bush wants us to stay".

Perle v. Tenet. In his new book, George Tenet claims that, one day after 9/11, Richard Perle turned to him and said: “Iraq has to pay a price for what happened yesterday. They bear responsibility.” The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol leaps to Perle’s defense and challenges Tenet’s account:

Here’s the problem: Richard Perle was in France on that day, unable to fly back after September 11. In fact Perle did not return to the United State [sic] until September 15. Did Tenet perhaps merely get the date of this encounter wrong? Well, the quote Tenet ascribes to Perle hinges on the encounter taking place September 12: “Iraq has to pay a price for what happened yesterday.” And Perle in any case categorically denies to The Weekly Standard ever having said any such thing to Tenet, while coming out of the White House or anywhere else.

Gore Calls Canadian Gov't Climate Plan "Complete And Total Fraud"
Associated Press | April 29, 2007 03:42 PM

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore says Canada's environmental plan put forth by the Conservative government is a "complete and total fraud" that is "designed to mislead the Canadian people."

The government announced a proposal Thursday to reduce Canada's level of current greenhouse gas emissions 20 percent by 2020. Under the initiative, Canada will not meet its obligations under the Kyoto Protocol, which requires 35 industrialized countries to cut emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases that are contributing to global warming.

My thought about the pet food is that it might have been a trial run. And the FDA dropped the ball.
How easily something can get into the food system.

It's scary!

Largest Maine Newspaper Changes Position, Calls For Iraq Exit
Portland Press Herald | April 29, 2007 05:04 PM

It is time to bring our troops home from Iraq.

This stand represents a shift in the newspaper's editorial position. Until now, we have supported the military mission in Iraq, though at times we have been harshly critical of President Bush in his role as commander in chief.

It's happening, slow but sure.

The federal government can issue mandatory recalls for tires and toys but not food?

I didn't know that Cat Chew, and it is scary.

That's this government, and past governments too.

But this one is always saying that they are the only ones that can protect us from terrorism and they haven't sone squat to protect us.

There's a gazillion ways for them to attack us.
