Media pounced on Edwards' haircuts, but ignore Giuliani's Iowa farm snub
http://mediamatters.org/items/200705150001
As Media Matters for America documented, the media recently devoted extensive coverage to a report -- first "broken" by Politico senior political writer Ben Smith on April 16 -- that Democratic presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards' (NC) campaign spent $800 on two haircuts. The story was covered by major print, broadcast, and cable outlets, and often featured characterizations of Edwards as "pretty" and the "Breck girl" -- echoing Republican and conservative attacks on Edwards dating back to 2004. These same media outlets, however, have shown almost no interest in recent reports that the presidential campaign of former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) scheduled -- and then abruptly canceled -- a campaign rally at the home of two Iowa farmers because they were not wealthy enough to be affected by the estate tax.
I have a weakness for ladies with lisps. I especially like it when we get to know one another well enough for me to mention her lisp. I love it when a lady with a lisp says "lisp." (Might have something to do with all of the Sylvester the Cat cartoons I watched in my childhood.)
Ignoring polling, Liasson claimed on Fox News Sunday that all Republicans beat Clinton
http://mediamatters.org/items/200705140005
On the May 13 edition of Fox Broadcasting Co.'s Fox News Sunday, Fox News contributor and NPR national political correspondent Mara Liasson asserted that former New York City mayor and Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani is "trying to argue" that he is "the only one who can beat a Democratic nominee -- [Sen.] Hillary Clinton [D-NY]." Liasson added, "But I don't think the polls support that. I think the polls show that in head-to-head matchups, for whatever that's worth now, they all do." However, while some recent polling has been less favorable to Clinton, two polls released in May show her leading not only Giuliani, but also the other top Republican candidates in head-to-head contests.
*********
And here in NYC, Giuliani's home turf, Clinton beats him about 70% to 30%.
He: "Bush has really disappointed me, but I couldn't possibly vote for Hillary."
Bait: "You find Hillary Clinton to be unsuitable as the President of the United States?"
He: "You bet! I'd never vote for her!"
Bait: "Let me see if I have this straight. You voted for Bush; probably twice. And yet, you believe that you are a good judge of who would make a good president? Here's what I think: Whatever you think isn't worth a damn." ------ Feel free to use this logic on any former Bush supporter who claims to have a fucking clue.
"I am optimistic we can pass a comprehensive immigration bill and get this problem solved for the American people this year," President Bush said last week, putting "pressure on senators as they prepare to hold a vote on the issue this week." The need for comprehensive immigration reform is greater than ever, as our current system is broken. Between 1990 and 2005, the number of undocumented immigrants doubled to 12 million while the size of the U.S. Border Patrol tripled in the same period. To address the growing number of undocumented immigrants in the U.S., comprehensive immigration reform gained momentum in Congress last year but ultimately was stonewalled by the right wing. "To save what could be his last hope for a major second-term domestic achievement," Bush is continuing to call for comprehensive reform this year, but his shift to more restrictive measures on immigration is stalling prospects of a fair reform package passing in Congress. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (D) said Bush has compromised his "basic principles" in his new plan, which would "restrict workers' ability to bring family members to the U.S. and [impose] a large fee to seek citizenship."
I'm listening to the Lionel show from today. I thought I'd give it a week to see what I thought about it. I'm barely into the third hour and I can hardly take it anymore. Congress has the power to end the Iraq war. They authorized the invasion of Iraq under the War Powers Act and they can now de-authorize it and bring the troops home.
De-authorization can't be vetoed. Anything less than immediate de-authorization and the withdrawal of all American troops is not a real plan to end this war.
Sign the petition calling on Congress to use its power to de-authorize the war and bring the troops home now >>
For several months, Governor Bill Richardson, former Ambassador to the UN and President Clinton's Special Envoy, has been calling for this de-authorization so that in 2007, every soldier can be reunited with their loved ones at home. But many Americans don't even know that de-authorization is an option.
Today, that is about to change.
Tell Congress that they need to execute their authority to end this war immediately >> http://go.care2.com/e/R9Oo/ioss/lDBN
Governor Richardson learned first-hand that diplomacy works in this region when met with Saddam Hussein and secured the release of hostages.
This war has gone on long enough. The time for diplomacy is now!

One of the most horrible things I've ever seen.
That site has many uber-rightwing articles all over it (Coulter, Hoover Institute flunkies, etc.)
It came up on Amy Goodman's show, in the context of a discussion of 'honor killings' becoming more prevalent, the loss of human rights and the rise of extremism in Iraq since the US occupation. But at the aina site, because of the general tone of other articles, I get the feeling it's on there as an example of "just another reason to condemn those backward races."
It appears that Air America has been corporatized! They take Sam Sedar and put him on when nobody listens and put that idiot Lionel on instead. I liked Sam and lee Rayburn much better. They had content and opinion. Lionel has neither. When they cancel Randi they can just sign off.
While the U.S. government and media keep focusing on defense policies, campaign advertisement and the war in Iraq, 1.2 billion people in the world continue surviving on less than $1 dollar a day. I would like to see government and the political leaders behing it, support more international problems that affect our place in this world, such as global poverty. We should not forget the commitment made towards the U.N. Millennium Goals (a pact of ending extreme world hunger by the year 2025) in 2000. While the U.S. government and media keep focusing on defense policies and the war in Iraq, 1.2 billion people in the world continue surviving on less than $1 dollar a day. According to The Borgen Project, an annual $19 billion dollars is needed to eliminate half of the extreme poverty affecting the world by the year 2015. To my sense, it is almost unacceptable to have spent so far more than $340 billion in Iraq only, when we have more than war immunities to change the world and eliminate poverty.
I wish politicians would realize that their are throwing money into a blackhole (340 billion dollars and counting, Borgen Project) called Iraq. 78% of Americans agree that solving global poverty would alleviate terrorism. The poor and hopeless of the world are more likely candidates for accepting terrorists' ideals because they simply do not have any other option. We can do something about this!
i think that old religions need to stop no matter where in the world. The idea that god is doing things for the better it isn't. To whom ever it may concern that does not mean you can justify any cause that is done as a form of not having your own emotions tied into them. What on earth is god even doing in a place that allows Killing is that really a God of love or maybe a form of not being able to think for yourself and you need a babysitter Book. Get over the fact of religion and become more a thinker because thats the only way anyone will better the future of our safety.

It is frustrating to see that the majority of the Republican Party still believes in this failed war. American people are fed up with lies and arrogance from the Bush administration. Not only does this war and the defense policies in this country has very little to prove to its people, also it is causing great violence, terror and poverty around the world and in this nation. There are more critical issues that affecting the lives of millions of Americans and people world wide that our president is not taking actions against. Now the war has proven to be a failure and is causing more violence, terror and poverty in this world. According to the Borgen Project, it only takes $19 billion dollars annually to eradicate world hunger and poverty. However, our government has already spent more than $450 billion dollars over this fruitless war in Iraq. It is time for the Bush Administration to take a real interest in the lives of the American people as well as people who are in desperate needs around the world. Stop the lies and stop poverty now. Put away the arrogance and put the needs of the people before political gains.
