Friday: The Last Casual Friday

Stay tuned for a blog message directly from Sam after the show, but in the mean time, this will have to suffice. We're going out with a bang today, as we welcome friends of the show all day long. We'll have Marc Maron and Joe Conason, plus a helping of surprise callers and wellwishers. And most importantly, we're welcoming YOU. So give us a call, at 866-303-2270. It's Casual Friday!

Protest grows over training camp - BLACKWATER USA SEEKS RURAL SITE FOR PROJECT

POTRERO, CALIF. — With its isolation and rustic ambience, this sparsely populated hamlet in eastern San Diego County offers the privacy and quiet its residents crave.

"It's perfect: nobody here but us rural souls," Will Lee said as he headed to the Potrero General Store on a recent afternoon.

But Lee's solitude and sense of being far from the madding crowd may soon be ruffled.

Blackwater USA, a security firm that supplies hundreds of armed civilian personnel for duties in Iraq, is seeking to build a 220-acre training camp on an 800-acre parcel that is now dedicated to egg farming and cattle ranching.

Blackwater officials say they would like to use the land to train personnel for dangerous duty in Iraq, Afghanistan and anywhere else the Department of Defense needs help. Plans include firing ranges, a helicopter pad, an ersatz "combat town," a track for high-speed driving classes, classrooms, an armory, a bunkhouse and some administrative buildings.

WELL ... WE DIDN'T HEAR FROM AL SHARPTON

We never did hear from Al Sharpton this morning with an OK for us to proceed with the posting of our program notes and to go ahead with the show. We tried Jesse Jackson also ... perhaps this morning was the day he takes his love child to school. So ... we've decided to just take a chance and post these notes without the "Reverend's" approval. Cross your fingers everyone!

Sperm made from human bone marrow
Scientists say they have successfully made immature sperm cells from human bone marrow samples.
If these can be grown into fully developed sperm, which the researchers hope to do within five years, they may be useful in fertility treatments.

But experts have warned the findings from the German study should be interpreted with caution at this very early stage.

And proposed new laws would ban their use in fertility treatments in the UK.

The government's recent fertility White Paper proposes a ban on using artificially created sperm or eggs in assisted reproduction.

On April 1, as trade negotiators from the United States and South Korea were finalizing a trade agreement, 54-year-old taxicab driver Heo Seowook poured 1.5 liters of gasoline on his body and set himself on fire outside the Hyatt Hotel in Seoul. i am so incredibly frustrated about sam's daily show being cancelled. i know this is just a bad move by one or two radio execs but i can't help but think about how democrats have a way of totally fucking everything up (and i'm a dem). i think of dems as the bad news bears, unorganized and off in a kazillion different directions, like an a.d.d. kid without his ridalin. the republicans can stay lock-step on votes in congress, on repeating talking points, etc and, as evil as it may be (because they are not acting as free-thinkers but just following a script), you can't deny that it's effective as hell. how do we beat this? how do we get off always playing the defensive and yelling about the lies and start getting heard? i believe education is the best solution but this is a country where most folks don't get involved (and many don't care) and get their news in 10-second sound bites. taking sam off his daily show certainly hurts our cause.

hope this makes sense. i'm just a bit scrambled right now. and i've got to go take my ridalin.

“I’m doing fantastic, MSNBC hired me to take your old timeslot and ratings are through the roof! What about you, Alberto?”

“Not so good,” Gonzolas says, “I’m bankrupt, my wife and kids disowned me, my friends are in jail, and I’ll never work in government again. But I’m taking it in stride, at least I got pardoned...

So anyway. here’s your menus... would you like to hear our specials tonight?”
