It gets crazier:

Dobson went on to enumerate a series of meetings
convened by Christian right leaders in Washington to
discuss the supposedly existential threat to the
United States from a nuclear Iran.

“I heard about this danger [from Iran] not only at the
White House but from other pro-family leaders that I
met during that week in Washington," he said. “Many
people in a position to know are talking about the
possibility of losing a city to nuclear or biological
or chemical attack. And if we can lose one we can lose
ten.

"If we can lose ten we can lose a hundred," he added,
“especially if North Korea and Russia and China pile
on.”

Time now reports that Kyle Sampson told congressional investigators "three times in as many minutes that Gonzales was angry with McNulty because he had exposed the White House's involvement in the firings had put it's (sic) role "in the public sphere," as Sampson phrased it, according to Congressional sources familiar with the interview."

MAY DAY - THE LABOR DAY
May 1st, International Workers' Day, commemorates the historic struggle of working people throughout the world, and is recognized in most countries. The United States of America and Canada are among the exceptions. This despite the fact that the holiday began in the 1880s in the USA, linked to the battle for the eight-hour day, and the Chicago anarchists.

The struggle for the eight-hour day began in the 1860s. In 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions of the United States and Canada, organized in 1881 (and changing its name in 1886 to American Federation of Labor ) passed a resolution which asserted that "eight hours shall constitute a legal day's work from and after May 1, 1886, and that we recommend to labor organizations throughout this district that they so direct their laws as to conform to this resolution". The following year the Federation repeated the declaration that an eight-hour system was to go into effect on May 1, 1886. With workers being forced to work ten, twelve, and fourteen hours a day, support for the eight-hour movement grew rapidly. In the months prior to May 1, 1886, thousands of workers, organized and unorganized, members of the organization Knights of Labor and of the federation, were drawn into the struggle. Chicago was the main center of the agitation for a shorter day.

We were told this was a crisis!

A couple of things to remember about these social security projections.
1. The social security trustees are appointed by Bush and the CBO numbers project trust solvency into the 2050's

2. Accepting the SSTrustees #'s, if we do nothing, 2041 is the year that social security will be able to only pay out 80% of current benefits well into the 22nd century.

3. Raising the cap on ss taxes from 90k (presently) to about 140k, eliminates the trust shortfalls totally.

4. Bob Dole, in 2000, said one of his greatest achievements when he was in the Senate was pushing the solvency of the trust until 2034.

In other words, there is/was no "crisis" with Social Security. So why did the Republicans and Bush pretend like there was?

5. Republican leaders don't want to return the money they raided from the Social Security trust fund to pay for tax cuts for the rich. And they hate the most succesful Government plan ever... insurance that you won't eat cat food when you retire.

Still not back in the swing of things. I'm on quasi- Hiatus. But wanted to update you all.

1. The new blog will roll out within three weeks, maybe earlier. It will allow for sub blogs or diaries.

2. Seder on Sundays will debut in about a month.

3. I am starting to look real good in the Gonzo is GONZO pool. My favorite moment from the hearings yesterday was watching Lindsey Graham (sam gets up closes the closet door) offer Gonzo an incredibly lame alibi (paraphrasing)..."US Atty's got put on this firing list becasue they were having personality conflicts, isn't that the case?"

4. Abramoff continues to sing and now Renzi is reducing his workload.

While it's not criminal to be Republican, it's clear Republicanism is a gateway activity to crime.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that this week will be the last week of the Sam Seder Show on Air America. As you know, Air America recently came out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the new management wants to go in a different direction with the 9-Noon (est) time slot. However, as much as I would like to spend more time with Alberto Gonzales’ family, he will be doing so shortly, freeing me up to do a Sunday afternoon show on Air America Radio. The show is tentatively known as Seder on Sundays and I am excited to get it started.

I am very proud of the three years I have broadcast on Air America Radio. I am particularly proud of the Sam Seder Show. We started the show as AAR was entering bankruptcy, when things around here were pretty hectic and insecure. The Sam Seder juggernaut, as no one but me called us, was able to maintain all of our affiliates that stayed with the progressive format through our bankruptcy. While it’s a bit early to judge, (our first full “book” is out in a couple of weeks) our ratings were looking pretty good and we dramatically increased AAR’s streaming numbers during this time slot. Most importantly, though, was the support and response we received from you, our audience. You'll never know just how helpful and motivating your comments, calls, emails and letters have been to me and my family and I greatly appreciate it.

I hope all of you will join me when I begin the Sunday show in the next month and a half or so. Of course, I’ll be maintaining this blog and continuing to promise to fix it. ( I mean it this time, I am serious!) I actually have some rather large plans for this site and its offerings but am not prepared to discuss them at the moment.

Anyway, over the next week I’ll be posting more about my plans, this site, Seder on Sundays and reflecting upon the last three years.

Then Glenn Beck claims that he "can't win," because he's a white Christian human living in America, and most people hate those. He's sure got our number. In fact, today we're welcoming three guests with established histories of hatred for humanity. Well the Senate Dems took a stand yesterday, setting up a showdown with Bush over Iraq funding and withdrawal. That leads us to the question of the day: If a president vetoes a bill that provides funding for the troops, doesn't that president hate the troops? We thought so. And we'll talk to Daniel Levy from the Century Foundation's Prospects for Peace Initiative about Condi Rice's trip to the Middle East.

Former Deputy Interior Secretary Steven Griles will plead guilty to one count of obstruction of justice in the Jack Abramoff corruption investigation, The Associated Press has learned.

Griles, an oil and gas lobbyist who became an architect of President Bush's energy policies while at the Interior Department between July 2001 and July 2005, is the highest ranking Bush administration official implicated in the Washington lobbying scandal.

The former No. 2 official at the Interior Department has agreed to a felony plea admitting that he lied five times to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee and its investigators about his relationship with Abramoff, people involved in the case told the AP....

In response to the caller earlier today who suggested that Hispanics would find your nickname of "Gonzo" offensive, I'd suggest that he take a closer look at his own President before he starts trying to deal with the hosts of radio shows. You know... the same President who's pet name for Mexican President Vincente Fox is "Montezuma".

One of our conservative regulars, HR, called in to ask: Does the nickname "Gonzo" offend Hispanics? As in, "Gonzo Is Gone-zo?"

Listener Carlos writes: "Gonzo Gone-zo does not offend me as a hispanic living in America, Gonzales/Bush admin should go!" Loretta in Williamsburg, Brooklyn says she's not offended.

Muppets, however, have called in about the "Gonzo Is Gonzo" contest

Many say that they are offended by the implication that Gonzo the Muppet is a non-factor. A Muppet of yesterday (unlike, say, Elmo). Also, several have accused The Sam Seder Juggernaut of selecting only the most ridiculous and embarrassing photos of Gonzo. The Sam Seder Show makes no apologies.

Remember when Ethan in Portland called in and said that Gonzales would be fired shortly after Bush voiced his unequivocal support for his attorney general? From AP today:

WASHINGTON - President Bush sent a powerful message of support Tuesday for embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, calling his longtime friend to express unwavering support in the face of calls for his resignation.

The White House also denied reports that it was looking for possible successors for Gonzales. "Those rumors are untrue," White House deputy press secretary Dana Perino said.

Bush called Gonzales from the Oval Office at 7:15 a.m. EDT and they spoke for several minutes about the political uproar over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys, an issue that has thrust the attorney general into controversy and raised questions about whether he can survive. The White House disclosed Bush's call to bolster Gonzales and attempt to rally Republicans to support him.

"The president reaffirmed his strong backing of the attorney general and his support for him," Perino said. "The president called him to reaffirm his support."

Support for Gonzales appeared to be collapsing under the weight of questions about his truthfulness and his management ability. White House spokesman Tony Snow offered a tepid defense when asked if Gonzales would stay on the job until the end of President Bush's term.

"We hope so," Snow said. "None of us knows what's going to happen to us over the next 21 months."

Does the following blurb read like the White House might be circling its wagons around the president ... and only the president?

The president did not call for the removal of any specific United States attorneys, said Dana Perino, a White House spokeswoman. She said she had “no indication” that the president had been personally aware that a process was already under way to identify prosecutors who would be fired.

But Ms Perino disclosed that White House officials had consulted with the Justice Department in preparing the list of United States attorneys who would be removed.

Within a few weeks of the president’s comments to the attorney general, the Justice Department forced out seven prosecutors.

A regulatory commission has advised the US Post Office to create a "forever stamp" that would hedge against rate increases. In other words, you can buy stamps in bulk without fear that you're going to have to buy two-cent stamps somewhere down the line.
